Here’s the new 24 hour comic I drew this year! This one is called THE KING’S FOREST. cw: blood, violence
How the fuck did you make that last panel say so many things without using any words at all that’s so fucking cool.
"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, being spent on species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.
I told a guy his total was 13.21 and he said “wish it were that year, could actually get some good music on the radio”

the thing that people just refuse to understand or accept when it comes to colourblind casting is that for the most part of human history, race has not been a social reality (it has never been, and will never be a biological reality either, but that's not the point). people have always reinterpreted stories according to their cultural background, and adapted them to fit their mythos. there is no such thing as an accurate adaptation. adaptation is interpretation (and interpretation is political).
but the thing is, if you sit down and actually use your brain for more than a millisecond, you'll understand that fictional stories like Black Panther, or biographical stories like Rosa Parks or Harriet Tubman emerged in a postracial world and thus cannot be seen through a colourblind lens. the concept of race did not exist when helen existed. and the braindead discourse we've been seeing about a black woman as helen of troy is the same regurgitated discourse we see every single time a black person is cast in an adaption of a story that is seen as culturally foundational, especially to the West (whether this is as a mermaid in a disney movie, or as a mythological character). because it is a veiled way of saying that you think that black people do not have a place in the dominant culture or mythos of our time.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service you’re organising" one of the tags responding said "this isn’t about proshippers in here you’re not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.
There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.
For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.
