"I don't think anyone's going to bat an eye." At least Grey would never think someone leaving has anything to do with what's happening in town. "I still wonder why we're sticking around here." He asked himself several times, but he knew he can't leave while there's people important to him here.

“I don’t plan on being in town very long, I have another project coming up anyways,” Garrett said, with a small shrug. He was really just passing the time until he had something better to do. “Maybe you should grab the people you care about and get them to pack some bags, find a town that doesn’t have blood in the water supply.”

The way he spoke reminded her of the Kendall that had no qualms about spending twenty dollars on a smoothie. Now that her card was getting declined paying for her own groceries, the thought of spending a hundred dollars on bowling shoes seemed near impossible. She held back a grimace and nodded her head quickly as if she understood. “No, exactly. A small price to pay, really,” she said with a strained smile. “So, what do you do? Must be impressive if you have throwaway bowling shoe money.”

“I’m a film director,” Garrett answered, casually. “I actually just got back to town from LA a week or so ago,” he added, before glancing at his phone to make sure he didn’t have any other plans today. “If you wanted we could ditch this place and go bowling now. We could grab some throwaway bowling shoes on the way?” She didn’t seem that into the leg machine and with all the rich people dying in this town Garrett didn’t really feel like being alone.

“Wait, what? I mean, I get it. LA can be so exhausting, but why would you come back?” Her aunt mentioned that a big Hollywood director lived in town, but she brushed off the idea that actually important people lived there. That was until she came face-to-face with one of those actually important people. Kendall, ever the suck-up, perked up at the idea of bowling almost immediately. “Oh, I would love that. I bet I could totally kick your ass,” she said, trying to convince even herself.

“I actually come home between all of my projects. I have some more things lined up but they’re in casting phases right now so I can basically relax for the next few months,” Garrett answered, casually. He watched her facial expressions for a moment before responding with a small smile. “I’m not particularly good at it so your beginner's luck might be strong enough. We might have to bet on it,” he responded, before offering his hand to help her from the machine.

Aleyna merely stood there, blinking. She stared at the key in his hand, forgetting momentarily that she had given him a key to her place for emergencies more than a year ago, and so, she was speechless as confusion washed over her. "You should have given this back to me when we broke up, Garrett," Aleyna said, eyebrows furrowing as she took the key, already making a mental note to make sure all her locks would be changed. She had been so, so happy to have gotten a place of her own, especially because she always felt like she had shared such a small space with her brothers for a long time. This home was hers, and it didn't really sit well with her that he went in there without her permission, and especially when she had already been doubtful about asking him to come in as soon as she saw him. Plus, her father had instilled in her the ability to take care of herself from a young age, so this entire situation was making her extra cautious, and not at all happy. "I'm sure I'll appreciate your gift, Garrett -- and I meant it when I said that you didn't have to get me anything -- but please don't do this again," Aleyna said, her voice firm, wanting to ask if he made more copies of the key, but deciding not to because she was going to change everything anyway.

She was probably right, but he didn’t really have the chance to give it back. She broke up with him pretty abruptly and he didn’t see her again before going to LA but that didn’t feel like something he should say in this moment. “You’re right, I’m sorry,” Garrett said, instead. He took a moment to watch all of the subtle changes in her face between her words. He was probably lucky that she was this calm, but that was something he always liked about her. “I won’t, I promise.”

“And getting stabbed, apparently,” she murmured under her breath. It was easy to ignore the news at first, but hearing the gory details from her aunt made her wonder why anyone decided to stay at all. She’d given up on using the machine, leaning back in her seat as if there weren’t others waiting for their turn. “Now that you mention it, I don’t think I’ve ever been bowling. I can’t stand the idea of wearing someone else’s gross shoes. Shocker, I know.”

Garrett let out the slightest laugh before composing himself. He wasn’t expecting her to say that and he almost forgot to have tact. “I have been bowling but that’s because my ex liked to do things like that. She didn’t mind wearing other people’s gross shoes, but honestly I’d rather just buy a set of bowling shoes. what are they $100?” he said, with a slight scoff to his voice. He didn’t care if he wore them once or twice and never touched them again.

Garrett really didn’t know how to say that the gift was already in her apartment, he was counting on her getting home and it just being there. “Well, it’s actually inside already,” he said, figuring it was better to just be upfront about it. He took the key from his pocket and handed it to her, “Sorry, I just wanted to surprise you.” Hopefully she would see it as the gesture it was trying to be and not just as someone breaking into her apartment. Not much he could do about it either way, now.

"Thank you," Aleyna said, showing him a small smile before just standing there, feeling awkward. She didn't particularly want to invite Garrett into her home, not after the text messages, and not when she'd been avoiding him since the night of the party, and besides, it was her birthday, so wasn't she allowed to feel a little selfish? "Did you just decide to... wait out here until I came home?"

“Thank you,” Aleyna said, showing him a small smile before just standing there, feeling awkward. I was just stopping by to drop off a birthday gift, I wasn’t planning on waiting the timing just worked out that way,” he said, technically being honest, while avoiding the fact that he was already in her apartment. He was probably going to have to give this key back.

Florence could feel her jaw physically creak with how hard she was grinding her teeth as Garrett did nothing but laugh in response to her cutting him off. She should probably feel grateful that he listened to her, but she hated that he found amusement out of their situation. Apparently, Flora was suddenly someone that was just generally displeased with other people’s enjoyment. “That’s hardly inventive. Everyone likes cookies and cream,” she huffed. “It’s mint chocolate chip - I bet I can guess yours. Something barbaric like rum raisin, or pistachio. Any flavour a psychopath would like.”

Garrett nearly forgot how much he liked talking to Florence. Normally he didn’t like agressive women because it always felt like it was forced and they were trying to hard to prove a point but it wasn’t like that with her. With her it was like how you can’t help but keep poking at a cat that’s swatting at you. You might get scratched but it was cute enough to be worth it. “Your word’s hurt me,” he said, with a hand to the chest, “I’m more of a chocolate chip cookie dough kind of guy, but that doesn’t really fit in your image of me.”

Sometimes Flora couldn’t tell if Garrett just spoke because he liked the sound of his own voice or if he genuinely enjoyed bothering her so much. There was a rare third option, that he really did want to have a proper conversation with her. That idea was a bit laughable, all things considered. “No they don’t,” she said bluntly, swatting his hand off his own chest just so she could flick the exact spot. Right over where his heart was, attempting to make a rather sad point. It wouldn’t bother him in the slightest, but at least she got a miniscule amount of satisfaction. “I don’t have an image of you.” Pausing, before leaning her head back, thinking over her words. “Okay, I do. You’re right, you don’t… seem like a cookie dough guy. But at least you have some taste. A human after all, I see. Tell me, human, are you just saying that because it’s the most basic answer? If you’re secretly an alien I won’t tell anyone. Actually, it’d make a lot of things make sense.”

Garrett normally didn’t show more than a smirk on his face, but when she swatted his hand only to flick him, it made him laugh. Sometimes he wasn’t sure if she was trying to be serious or funny but it always came off as the second option. He couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows when she said that she didn’t have an image of him, only for his face to go back to a light chuckle when she started to speak again. “Why don’t we go get some icecream and I’ll prove my human nature by getting cookie dough. Maybe it will prove I’m human or maybe you will get more evidence against me, only one way to find out.”

"jesus christ — how many zombies can they outrun before their legs start gettin’ tired? i’d prefer if this place was overrun by zombies instead of killers.” it’d make for a better movie after all, though she doesn’t want to give anyone any ideas. halloween is coming up and darla’s half afraid someone is going to die or going to pull a prank and scare the shit out of the town. or both. “what, you didn’t think i’d make it? i’m way too cute to kill. it’s like, kicking a kid down. or stealing their ice cream.” she doubts that it’s even close to the same vein, but would she know? “yeah, yeah, we can do that. you’re not busy?”

“Apparently a lot,” Garrett said, with a small laugh. He thought that zombies had gotten pretty overdone, but people are obsessed with the undead. “That’s true, they killed the kind of hot girls in the Walking dead but the cutest girl always ends up surviving, which is why Maggie is still kicking,” he added, with a small laugh. “Nah, the nice thing about being in between projects is that I have a lot of free time.”

"i think they don’t wanna ruin a good thing, and will do anythin’ for a lil’ bit of cash.” that’s most hollywood anyway, so she’s not exactly surprised. but end that shit already. “okay, well, we might have a few different ideas of hot — or cute, for that matter.” darla likes to think she’s the former, but she’s definitely the latter. would she survive a zombie apocalypse? “ah – well. at least one of us got breaks in that place, had me runnin’ ragged since i was in diapers.” though not exactly her fault. “and you’re payin’ for lunch, mr. gym rat.”

“Come on, you’re going to pretend like Maggie isn’t the most attractive person on that show,” Garrett said, with a slight chuckle. He knew that it was much harder for working actors to keep up the gigs in a place like LA. There were millions of hot people all begging for their big moment and it could go as quickly as it came. That was one of the nice things about being behind the camera. “I wouldn’t have humored anything else,” he pointed out, lightly. Considering she was working at a flower shop he couldn’t imagine expecting her to spend a cent of her over earned, under paid paycheck.

Myria looked at Garrett for a second before letting out a laugh, covering her hand after a second. “Sorry - it’s just - wow, do you really not remember me? I’m like, shocked, flabbergasted - hurt, even.” She settled down after a moment, hand clasping her forearm - smile still playing on her lips. “I’m Myria - remember? High school? You were like - at least two inches shorter?”

“Myria? Holy shit you look so different,” Garrett said, with a small laugh. He was lying because she basically looked the same. It just didn’t click until she spelled it out for him. He has simply known too many women in the time since they last saw each other and a lot of them blend together at this point. “It’s been so long, we should do dinner to catch up. On me, of course, since I dropped the ball on our epic reconnection.”

“Liar.” She called him out with a laugh - didn’t mind that he hadn’t recognized her, or his claim that she looked different; Myria had dyed her hair plenty of colors in the years since they’ve last spoken. Mostly on a whim, whenever she was experiencing Big Emotions. “Oh! Yeah! Dinner sounds like - superb, super. Do people still like, use the word epic? That’s like - pretty epic, I guess.”

“I don’t know if people use epic anymore. I know my girlfriend- well ex girlfriend used it a lot. I think her favorite show said it, but it’s from 2009 so that’s probably why,” Garrett said, with a small shrug. “I haven’t been here in a year, did any new restaurants or anything pop up since then? If not we could just eat wherever’s your favorite.”

That is, if it weren’t for the fact that her aunt was there, judging her form and critiquing her workout. In attempt to steer clear of her, Kendall took her chances at the local gym. Too bad that sharing wasn’t really her forte. “I’ll be quick,” she lied. It was leg day, after all. “I mean, to be honest, I was planning on spending my day here anyways. Why is there nothing to in this town aside from going to the gym and staring at a lighthouse?”

“It’s all yours,” Garrett said, with a slight chuckle. She wasn’t exactly wrong, there wasn’t much to do in this place, but that’s pretty much what it’s like in any small town. When he’s in LA it’s like a whole different world. “I mean there’s bars that help pass the time. I guess there’s other shit like bowling alleys and ice skating if you’re into that kind of thing,” he added, with a small shrug.

Garrett couldn’t help but give a small chuckle at the clueless expression on his face. “I’m guessing you’re not exactly a regular,” he said, with a light tone. He didn’t recognize the guy but he was always pretty in and out of town. He normally stuck around with the same group and since the murders started he kind of lost a few of the only people he liked.

"yeah? like what?” doesn’t have the heart to say that acting, maybe, possibly, was left in the past — she doesn’t to drudge up memories when she’s cut the leash fully off. “oh! i work at poppies, sometimes. it’s real cute in there.” not that she knows fuck - all about flowers, but hey, it’s money. “could do without all of the weird stuff going on, though.” murders aren’t exactly something to qualify as weird, but okay.

“Another Walking Dead spin off, because we haven’t beaten that show to death yet,” Garrett said, with a small laugh. He had been to poppies before, mostly to get I’m sorry flowers but he didn’t see the point in sharing that. “Yeah, I got filled in on all the craziness that’s been going on. Glad to see you’re still standing,” he said, with a small laugh, wondering why no one bought the rights to this story yet. “Actually, do you want to get some lunch or something, I’d love to keep catching up.”

Eyebrows furrowed at the unexpected sight in front of her place, Aleyna found herself quickly parking her car and briskly walking until she was standing in front of her ex-boyfriend. “Hi,” she cautiously stated. “What are you doing here?”

Garrett knew that there were multiple ways that this could go but he also knew that Aleyna loved a grand gesture. What’s the worst that could happen, really? When they were together she talked a lot about music and all of the instruments that would come into the shop. There was a drumset in particular that she mentioned more often than the rest, so he had made a note to get it for her. They ended up breaking up before he got the chance, but that wasn’t going to keep him from getting it for her now. 

After spending the morning setting it up in her apartment, he slid the spare key into his back pocket and walked out the front door. He was considering leaving and just letting her find it there when she got home, when she pulled up. Too late for that option now. “Hey, I just wanted to say Happy Birthday.”

“Oh, Jesus Christ.” Florence’s response to seeing Garrett was an automatic one. There’d never been a time that they’d spoken and she’s actually enjoyed it, but that didn’t seem to deter her counterpart in the slightest. She’d find it impressive if she wasn’t the constant victim of his nattering. “I look like I’d be a vegan? What the hell does a vegan look like?” Realizing she was just inviting his further teasing, she raised a hand in front of his face before anything else could get out. “Don’t answer that. Most places carry vegan options nowadays - not that it matters. I’m not vegan. I’ve heard wild assumptions in my day but that’s one of the… weirdest. I’ll go if you can guess my favourite flavour.”

Garrett was ready with a response but when she raised her hand in front of his face all that came out was a laugh. She might have found his comment weird but now they were talking so it looks like it got the job done. He thought for a second about what her favorite flavor might be. He debated for a second on if he should say something vegan sounding, like hazelnut, or give a real answer. “Is it cookies and cream?”

He’s not a gym guy. But every once in a while, he gets the urge to pretend he is for a few days. He doesn’t really work out as much he wanders around aimlessly, though. Stopping at random machines to fiddle with them before eventually giving up on figuring out how it works. Which is what he was doing when he practically walks into someone else. “No, you’re good man, go ahead.” Takes a step back, gestures at the machine and then vaguely in the opposite direction. Not about to admit he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing to someone who clearly does. “I’ll just go over there, no problem.”

“Cool, thanks,” Garrett said, before moving back into his work out. He wasn’t on the machine long, maybe twenty minutes before wiping it down and noticing the guy was still close by. “Hey it’s open now,” he said, not knowing if he was still on legs. “Unless you needed a spotter,” he added, noticing that they were by the free weights now.

“Yeah, I’m starting to get that energy,” Garrett said, with a small shake of his head. “Unfortunately there are a lot of eyes on us over in Stoughton Estates right now, so if anyone leaves it’s going to look really sketchy,” he explained, before taking a quick swig from his waterbottle.
