Unlike the majority of her peers, Delia was perfectly content to spend a handful of her after school hours at the hospital instead of going to the mall or just hanging out with a group of friends. It wasn’t like she didn’t have anything else to do. Watching cardio surgeries from the gallery was just where she would rather be. Unfortunately, her wishes didn’t come true nearly as much as she would like for them too. Instead of preparing for the fun part of her future, most of her time was spent hitting the books and writing what felt like never ending papers. No sooner had she finished and actually begun to relax a little bit than Teddy’s day was done and it was time for the two to return home.
On that particular afternoon, though, Delia decided that she would take her much needed yet maybe not so well deserved break outside of the attendings’ lounge. Legs needed to be properly stretched, and fresh air felt necessary. Exiting the room for the nearest elevator, she pressed the necessary buttons and eventually made her way down to the first floor. An unexpected, sudden commotion caught her attention not long after she stepped off, and she found herself too shocked at what she had just witnessed to do anything other than let out an involuntary gasp. Hopefully the other blonde was okay. If not, at least she’d fallen in a place where medical attention could be gotten right away.
Upon catching sight of the girl’s face, it didn’t take Delia long to put two and two together. The two of them weren’t best friends or anything by any means, but it wasn’t like they were complete strangers, either. They attended the same high school, and their parents had worked together for years. Better than that, two of them had even dated one another for a little while there. That was ancient history, though. “Umn, is everything okay over here? You’re not like injured or anything, are you?” It was probably a stupid question to voice out loud, but at least on her way over to help she’d grabbed the backpack to return to its owner.
Evie did not want to be there. Not one bit, and the trip of embarrassment that had just occurred only made her wish she wasn’t at that hospital even more. Honestly she was just glad the hall had been pretty bare so their wasn’t a swarm of doctors surrounding her. It had just been a little fall, all that hurt was her pride. Especially since the fall had been witnessed by someone and it wasn’t just some random someone either. At least not to her she wasn’t.
It only took one quick upward motion for Evelyn to get back up on her feet again. As easily as she had gone down she came back up. Grabbing the backpack that had flung a bit forward on the other hand was a bit more troublesome. She was already embarrassed and avoiding all eye contact with anyone around her as she walked the few steps forward to pick up the backpack and swing it around her should about to pretend as though nothing had happened when she came face to face with the other girl, her cheeks turning an even darker shade of pink from embarrassment she tried her best to hide.
“me? oh no, i’m fine just a little tumble. i’m used to it.”wasn’t the first time her inner klutz came out and it wouldn’t be the last. she wanted to drop the conversation completely, but a part of her also wanted to defend herself to this girl. she had no reason or need to but she wanted to start some sort of conversation that would make both of them forget this little incident. she was already awkward enough around the other kids of surgeons at the hospital, never gutsy enough to actually build some kind of relationship with them. couldn’t possibly get more awkward and embarrassing than this now. “hey uh... were you leaving?”
