I love DA2. The shitty graphics. The horrible gameplay. The story so unavoidably devastating and beautiful and horrible. Everyone hates each other. Everyone loves each other. You’re constantly filling the streets with bodies and there are no ramifications for this. There are ramifications for everything you say and do. Everyone’s bisexual. There’s a dragon in the mine. You lose everyone and everything you love and care about and it’s inevitable. Isabela gets an STI at one point. Merrill is a blood mage. You go from rags to riches to going on the run. You have a dog. You set your friend up on a date with the guy she likes. You hunt down a serial killer who takes the last member of your family away. Your doctor friend is possessed and loves cats and commits domestic terrorism. You have no control. You control everything.

This is known behavior, and there's a good reason for it!

That's a coyote (Canis latrans) and an American badger (Taxidea taxus). Both of them hunt prairie dogs (genus Cynomys), but with different strategies: the badger digs into prairie dogs' burrows, while the coyote chases them over flat ground. On their own, the prairie dogs have strong defenses for both of these strategies. When the badger starts digging, they run out onto the surface, where they're much faster than the badger; when the coyote starts circling the colony, they run into the burrows, where the coyote can't reach them.

But we've seen coyotes and badgers team up to hunt prairie dogs, each of them contributing their own strengths, and making a much more effective team together than they would on their own!

And! While partnerships aren't necessarily exclusive, badgers and coyotes are known to prefer teaming with certain individuals, and associate with them outside of hunting. So this odd pair are buddies :]
