I feel like Suzanne watched how the movies did Haymitch and Effie and went 'wait actually i like that' and decided to sprinkle in little tiny Heffie interactions ✨️🥹 i know they don't seem to have much interaction in the original books, but then again we were seeing from Katniss 'Peeta has a crush on me???!!' Everdeen's pov, so I like it.

To add: Haymitch has scorned everyone from the Capitol so far. He refuses even the guy that serves him birthday cake, and still sizes up Plutarch with suspicion, despite the latter all but declaring himself a rebel. Yet, even when immediately noting how indoctrinated Effie is, he chooses to be nice to her. Because hey, practicality!

Bonus: even Haymitch is not above receiving compliments 😂
