BIG REPUTATION ! BIG REPUTATION !
Taylor applauding Beyoncé’s record-breaking 28th Grammy win
By Craig McDean for British Vogue - 2020
It started with imagery. Visuals that popped into my mind and piqued my curiosity. Stars drawn around scars. A cardigan that still bears the scent of loss twenty years later. Battleships sinking into the ocean, down, down, down. The tree swing in the woods of my childhood. Hushed tones of “let’s run away” and never doing it. The sun drenched month of August, sipped away like a bottle of wine. In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down.
It’s such a strange thought that this time last year, we hadn’t even begun our journey together, since you are now such a big part of my life. You have restored my faith in music and the ways in which it can help me and others. In a year of such uncertainty and fear, I’m eternally grateful for the music we made. You generously shared your songwriting genius with me and others on these records — and made everyone involved feel appreciated and confident in their work. I can’t say enough positive things about you as an artist and a person. - Aaron Dessner
Working with taylor is a full connection to all of the wonder of making music. Knowing her and making work with her gives me faith in the ability for people to grow. To actual grow. It has been a one of the most deeply important personal and creative relationships in my life. Thank god I met you at that bizarre show in Germany all those years ago. I adore you and I adore this album. Thank you for listening and believing in what I was doing before I had produced a single record. Damn Taylor. - Jack Antonoff
There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. […] I have no idea what will come next. I have no idea about a lot of things these days and so I’ve clung to the one thing that keeps me connected to you all. That thing always has and always will be music. - Taylor Swift

“Deciding on what album to rerecord first was pretty easy for me. I always gravitated towards Fearless because I think that as an album, it was a real coming of age, and I look back on that album and I just, it filled me with such pride. And it was it was an album about hope and lessons learned and the effervescence of teenage youth and all that, so what’s more fun than to go back and explore that? And you know I think that I tried to keep it as close to the original as possible and the additional songs that I’ve added are songs that I think add insight into what the album almost was because every time you make an album you leave some songs off and I think that it’s really cool that the fans will get to have the full picture this time around.”
