I was doing some reading for my art history class and I came across Louise Bourgeois's "Maman"
Immediately, I saw everyone's favorite mysterious particulate entity:
The Mind Flayer
"Maman" is meant to resemble a spider, which she associated with her mother because of their patient, soothing, subtle and useful qualities, the legs exuding a protective and threatening feeling
I wonder if the Duffer Brothers were at all inspired by this piece when creating the Mind Flayer, or if it's all coincidence. Although I can't help but wonder if this "mother" symbolism is shared between the two figures
