this is me being annoying and nitpicky but I think you guys forget just how young both mello and near are. there's always this general air of 'oh mental illness headcanons are inaccurate' which ignores how child development works and how trauma during development works.

it's especially done with mello, no, I don't believe mello is a tough guy who would never have mental illness because that's just not how child development works. he is 19, we know he killed someone around the age of 17, an act inherently life ruining in itself and that's not even getting to the programming of wammy's and how that would've affected his psyche. he is still a teenager, seemingly with no safety in his life at any points, I don't think he would've been normal in any sense.

people don't just become the way M and N are. their psyches had to have been broken over and over and over again to create their deep rooted behavior, and we know it happened because neither of them changed between the ages of 13/14-18/19, a pretty significant time for development. I just think it's an incredibly poor way to view their behavior
