Aisling Loftus as Sonya Rostova in War & Peace (2016
“I open my mouth. I want to say: I’m breaking, and I need someone to hold me together. But no sound comes out.”
— Beth Revis, A Million Suns (via weltenwellen)
“I need a father, I need a mother, I need some older, wiser being to cry to. I talk to God but the sky is empty.”
— Sylvia Plath - Taken From ‘The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath’ February, 1956
Four daughters of the last Russian Tsar, Grand Duchesses Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Olga, under a Christmas tree, around 1907
sad little reminder that alexei’s and maria’s remains still aren’t buried with the rest of their family to this day
GERMAN PERIOD DRAMA SENTENCE STARTERS (PT. 2 )
I decided to do a continuation of my german period drama starters, so here we go! There are from various sources, mostly “Das Adlon”, “Die Pilgerin” and “Die Dasslers”. Feel free to change pronouns etc. as you need.
[ PART 1 / PART 2 ]
“I thought you ought to know it.”
“This is our time, trust me, there’s something in the air.”
“During the day I can forget the war, but by night …”
“Nobody cares about what you really want.”
“They’re just waiting for a sign of weakness.”
“The women in this family are no good.”
“Spare your false gratitude.”
“Have you thought that I’m waiting for you?”
“The thing is certain for me. I have to do this.”
“If you want to know what has become of you - then look into the mirror.”
“Do you even realize in what danger you’ve put us all?”
“To have a free will is like a curse.”
“So I assume you won’t join us?”
“Fear is a bad adviser.”
“You’re still a family. Not even you can change that.”
“I’ll get you out of here. I promise.”
“You’re a great seducer.”
“I envy you so much for your possibilities.”
“I envy your for your freedom.”
“Who’s not with us is against us. You should deliberate that.”
“Stay with me. Please.”
“I’d hoped to find you here.”
“Do you think we could see each other from time to time?”
“I’m not suitable to be a second wife.”
“You left in a moment when I needed you most.”
“And now you’re afraid to be alone. That’s why you’ve ordered a sherry for me and try to hold my hand?”
“A married woman has many opportunities.”
“You have to be more careful with what you write.”
“What secret would I harbour?”
“I’ve been alone all this time. Without you.”
“And you think I’ll fall in love with you again?”
“The problem is I either write what I believe in or I shut up.”
“You Germans were all innocent.”
“I know you’re not supposed to wish for someone’s death, but … it would be fate then.”
“What kind of person are you?”
“What if I told you something, that would perhaps reflect badly on me?”
“Open your heart to me. Then I can do the same with mine.”
“Can I invite you to a walk these days?”
“You were … so different. I’ve never seen you like this before.”
“If you want to smash my face in now, I wouldn’t take it amiss.”
“Soon it’ll be too late. And then none of this will be of value anymore.”
“Would you stay with me a little longer? Until I’ve fallen asleep?”
“I wish I wouldn’t have to leave you. Not again.”
“Don’t wait until someone gives you this freedom. Freedom that’s bestowed is worth nothing. You have to take it yourself.”
“Go ahead, strike me. That won’t change my mind.”
“You’ve taken your freedom. Just as you’ve always wanted.”
“This life … who’s supposed to understand it?”
“No matter where we end up - We carry our home within us. We create it with every memory, at every place.”
Grand Duchesses Olga Nikolaevna and her sister Maria Nikolaevna.
ncvaflows / father :
“Mashka.” his voice soft yet firm as he watched the flicker of displeasure across his daughter’s features despite her attempt to hide them. blue eyes looked over the appalling sight before him. that one of his youngest daughters was looking more and more like a young woman. a young woman who didn’t accept simple dismissive responses like she once had. that had trusted in his judgement- at least not like it had before. no. she was becoming a young lady who saw and observed and saw more than he hoped she would. heard more than he thought she would. both he and his wife had hoped to shield the children from the world as much as they could, but it seemed like it crept in the palace walls any how.
“your mother and i…we want to keep you and your sisters and brother safe. i know that i speak of some things with olga at times, but i had hoped to spare you little ones from the darkness of the world.”
she stops upon hearing the nickname, slowly turning on her heel to face her father again. being the amiable baby didn’t benefit her much when she was younger, always being taken advantage of by her sisters, and that carried on as she grew up. maria was always the understanding one, the one who was content with keeping quiet in an argument just so it could be over with. while she wasn’t exactly arguing with him now, she knew those didn’t exist with the tsar; what the tsar wanted was followed, and even if she was his daughter that still applied.
❛ well... we’re not so little anymore, papa. ❜ maria fiddles with a loose thread of her blouse; she was nervous, maybe a little ashamed to breach the topic with her father because an uprising meant that he’d done something wrong, and she didn’t want to think about how horribly he might be painted in other people’s minds. ❛ you can tell us. ❜
theywillnotfade / olga romanov :
olga was barely hanging on as it was, almost aging rapidly infront of her family’s very eyes whilst doing her best to not be swallowed alive by the terrible despair and sorrow that overwhelmed her. she could not even believe her own words, so why would maria believe them? everything was going in a downward spiral. the family was in such a dangerous position, one that had frightened her when she had read about it in french history books. “ it will be. it will be. king george will send for us and we will be away soon. ” to safety. at least that was what was desperately being hoped for. for someone to step in and save them before they befell a similar fate of the french royals during the revolution.
maria purses her lips, wringing the handkerchief in her lap in frustration. as much as she wanted to hope for the best, whatever little that could do in their situation, she knew it wouldn’t do any of them good to deny that something bad was happening outside the palace walls. just because their parents tried their best to keep it from them didn’t mean they had no other way of finding out, and refusing to talk about it didn’t make it disappear either. ❛ king george is an ocean away, olga. ❜ she looks at her oldest sister tiredly and sighs. ❛ and if the whispers of the maids have even an ounce of truth to them, then i’m not sure a lot of other kings would so easily help us. ❜

@ncvaflows : "i don't know why but i did." from olga
❛ perhaps prince carol was just... shy and felt a bit awkward. it was your first meeting after all, and i’m sure he was aware that you were only meeting because our parents were talking of marriage. ❜ not unusual for people like them, though maria had always hoped that her parents would at least consider letting them choose who they’d want to marry. the choices were limited, being who they were and obviously the man had to be of rank, but still. if her or any of her siblings’ marriages were bound to be arranged, she only wished it would be with someone they could grow to be fond of, if not already initially. ❛ but i heard mama mention earlier that they were looking at other prospects, so i suppose you won’t have to worry about being stuck with prince carol. ❜ maria shifts on the bed, offering her older sister a half smile. ❛ at least you got to go to romania, olenka. i’ve heard it’s very beautiful. ❜
some meme i’m too lazy to find. not accepting.
@russicnrat : “not even royal blood can stop bullets.”
❛ but it “stopped” anastasia’s. that is why you've come all this way to paris with that girl, is it not ? apart from the generous amount of money it has in return ? ❜ maria quirks a brow at him, and the stern way her words come out surprises her. the amiable, soft - spoken and so kind - hearted grand duchess maria could never, even in instances where she was irritated to the brim. now that she looked back on it, she might have benefited from allowing herself to be angry every once in a while. ❛ the reward for her safe return to the dowager empress might still be the talk of the town, but my grandmother is sick and tired of seeing one impostor after another. ❜ she herself had held out hope in the first month; all she heard were shots and screams when she’d run out the backdoor and for her life, so how could she know for sure if everyone had truly died ?
she realizes how naive of a thought that was now, though. after hearing of what became of the rest of her relatives following that night, maria knew that if the bolsheviks wanted to get something done, then they did it however possible. ❛ enough. can’t you let my little sister’s memory live in peace ? ❜
some meme i’m too lazy to find. not accepting.
I always felt that we could never be married, and she deserves to be happy, Nikolai.
& here is a starter call !! lengths will vary.
