Yes, the brown indigenous girl should have married into the genocidal monarchy who slaughtered her people and her very own mother in their own home during one of their many invasions upon her tribe, in a quest to find her specifically and kill her so that they could finally eradicate the Southern Water Tribe culture from the face of the earth.

She should rule a nation that tried to wipe her out of existence, and that absolutely would not have hesitated to murder her as a defenseless 8 year old girl had her mother not bravely lied to save her life, dying in her place.

It should be Katara’s inherent place as an indigenous girl to fix colonizers and show them the error of their ways, by assimilating into a nation that views her as inferior and undeserving of life for simply being born the way she is, and giving her own culture up.

Katara marrying Aang and having a happy relationship and healthy children with him, a fellow survivor of genocide that lost his father and everyone he knew and loved, who is the only other person in the entire story that could understand her very unique pain and who is her best friend above all else, is such a disservice to her character and she totally deserves someone better like Zuko, who terrorized her for the overwhelming majority of the plot and who was only forgiven for the greater good and who Katara has no unique bond to.

A while back I made a CUPID AU for xiaorang where xiaoyu has a dream where she’s given the chance to make her crush fall in love with her with a simple arrow, however poor xiaoyu doesn’t have much archery experience so her arrow lands on Hwoarang instead, and the next day in school Hwoarang starts acting different with her. Did her dream become reality? Or was Hwoarang just messing around with her?
