since the school closed, nevaeh tried to ignore the fact that they would have to go back one day. she loved school, but she just didn’t want to think about it. but now, they had to go back. for some reason, she couldn’t help but think that they’d walk down the hall and just see ( blood ) everywhere, even if she knew that wasn’t possible. she knew miles was right; they were already two weeks behind now, and they still had to make it to graduation. was it wrong to think about graduation? “ yeah, i guess, ” she responded pathetically. “ tell you what, i’ll even bring you a coffee in the morning if you promise to sit with me at lunch, ” she said, offering him a small smile. miles was the first person she admitted she was scared to, and having him around might make things easier.
“i’m going to have to trade my coffee in for some oj because unlike you i can’t survive on the stuff. but hey, that sounds like a fair enough deal to me.” he was relieved that he wouldn’t have to do the thing he usually does and float around the cafeteria socializing with a table at a time. it was exhausting but a good practice of his to keep from giving in to the urge of picking the furthest table in the back and sketching for himself. “i promise.”, he said holding up the curl of a pinky finger out to her.
