deltarune theory: If the red cloth isn’t taken into the dark world along with the tv tenna is naked
sometimes I forget that for a good chunk of deltarune fans, this is their first rodeo with a messy love triangle because I keep seeing takes like 'what's the point of shipping a one-sided ship' 'they should just all hold hands'
look, ships have not and will never be about canonicity. ship wars are extensions of ego, not the work
shipping at its core is about the dynamic and relationship between characters. it is a way to celebrate, dissect, and comprehend the ways in which characters affect each other, reveal things about themselves that wouldn't be possible alone, and ultimately, how that reflects the themes of the story. people ship non-canon ships because the canonicity isn't the point: the dynamic is
what does suselle's happiness mean for both susie and noelle? what does it reveal about kris and noelle? what does it imply about kris and susie?
i understand the desire to not engage in something painful, but the one-sided nature of kris' crush is a beautiful added layer to kris' character because it highlights their otheredness and repressed self so well while also showing how much they also want their friends to be happy. it illustrates their struggles as a character who is their own person with their own needs and wants, yet is so enigmatic to the general player base that nearly none of them clock how kris feels in chapter 5.
kris has spent their entire life being the second choice, the afterthought, the one left out if the azzy dess thing is anything to go by. and now they have to stand silently as their favorite person chooses someone else while contending with the player choosing to thirdwheel them (and also how they want susie to be happy with noelle because they're a backstabbing little enby). this unrequited crush is a reminder of that in the form of a knife that twists in our heart.
meanwhile weird route reveals to us that the 'only kris knows how weird i am' is this unsaid connection between kris and noelle who both desire to 'leave' and find something new and freeing in their constrained, powerless lives. the irony is that they are video game characters who use, well, video games to achieve this feeling through things like evil routes, glitches, and clipping out of bounds (which is then actuated when the veneer of noelle's reality is forcibly shattered by the player). just as kris had always been 'heading nowhere', so too was noelle similarly trapped and 'heading nowhere' until susie came along
the happiness susie brings to noelle is an echo of the happiness we've seen kris experience due to susie. because kris and noelle are similar, we can deduce that the ways in which noelle feels about susie is similar to how kris feels about susie (such as the locker scene in ch5) and vice versa. similarly, the joy that susie feels with noelle is a romantic mirror of the comfort she feels with kris. she doesn't understand love, but she also has so much love in her heart to give. it's implied that noelle is partly why susie is 'still here' and this moment of their two hearts beating as one is why their love is so pure. susie needs a presence like noelle just as noelle needs a presence like susie and suselle advances both their character arc wonderfully
all this to say that shipping is so much more fun once you think of it as character exploration. free yourself from 'my ship has to be canon' and use canon as fuel for you to explore what makes these characters tick and what about their dynamic you find fun
a ship being one-sided (and staying one-sided) is evocative precisely because it is tragic. explore that!! dive into the many layers that I didn't get to describe!
we shouldn't shy away from tough emotions; they're a reminder that this story is so important to us that it can evoke such feelings

a brief krusie comic
the pain. It’s unbearable. Kruthie…………
Obsessed with @3muske-tears 's tags on this
Iced coffee is so so yummy until you get just a bit halfway through one and your heart starts beating too fast and your stomach feels like it’s touching your ribs and you’re taking deep breaths but it doesn’t feel like it’s enough and your fingertips and toes feel weirdly light and your calves feel like they’re vibrating and there’s this weird sense of urgency that starts looming over you so all you can do is pace around your room in circles waiting for something to go wrong and and
obsessed with kris using things the player can't see to communicate with other characters. drawing on the window in the diner. 80% as much honey on toast as usual. silly faces and nodding/shaking their head. changing the tone of what we make them say to make it clear that they mean it differently. i love that it's shown time and time again that kris ISN'T apathetic about anything. kris wants friends. kris has boundaries and wants mom to know that what she did made them feel bad. kris wants the people in their life to be happy and kris wants affection. i love kris deltarune
Defernull chapter 5 AU where all the flowers represent the opposite of their original virtues,
Aqua’s patience becomes intolerance, exasperation, or restlessness. (Though considering how she is in game, maybe this means she’s the opposite of these now?)
Seth’s perseverance becomes surrender, abandon, and wavering.
Yellow’s justice becomes corruption, bias, and lawlessness.
Blue’s integrity becomes deceit, disgrace, and dishonor.
Green’s kindness becomes cruelty, merciless and unforgiving.
Orange is cowardice, consumed by her timidity.
And Flowery becomes…a lame otaku shut in. Instead of a stereotypical annoying anime main character he’s now a stereotypical annoying loser. The first time you meet him he’s in his gaming den sulking.
….hey look I know the flowery one kinda sucks but like. Defernull objectively makes all the characters considerably Cooler. I think for once it should make someone considerably Less Cool.
a comic about mew mew, kris & LOVE
This hurts…
I could be wrong but the ending scene gives the vibes that Kris spent a good amount of time waiting at that door. Likely not at the chance that Susie would come back but just letting everything sink in.
The confirmation of one-sided Krusie via their interactions in Chapter 5 does loads for the tragedy of their relationship. I can see Kris just standing in silence thinking about how not only are they losing Susie in the real world but also in the world thats supposed to be an escape from the real.
Kris has nothing to themself.
They feel like they have been overshadowed by their older brother, their family got torn apart, they getting puppeted around, and whatever is going on with Dess and the Knight and the promise.
And Susie was a ray of light in all of that chaos.
Their entire life has been upended and the moment they finally start to connect with someone on a deeper level, a fellow outcast, not only do their feelings not exact align...they are bringing the one they do love into the dynamic.
And they can’t even control their body while all of this is going on.
I like Suselle but man do I feel bad for Kris.
Kris is in a constant state of “Worst Day Of Highschool Ever” at all times
I genuinely love how the dialogue "We would never find Care A" may be considered as the interpretation about how a person will be not the same as before, especially after the traumatic event. Yeah, sort of PTSD... I can feel that Noelle would try to open the Dess' computer, to find every evidence about what happened to her
do you guys think the flowers give Kris extreme uncanny valley? They look human but they’re. Not. They aren’t darkners or lightners either. But they’re trying to look human, and I can imagine that for a real human who’s lived their entire lives in a town of only monsters, is probably horrifying.
I wonder if Flowery specifically makes them uncomfortable. From what we’ve seen of humans in this game so far, Flowery’s human form seems the most accurate/realistic.
Alternate chapter five weird route where the Flowery and Ralsei talk gets replaced by Flowery and Kris.
Flowery asks Kris why seeing him seems to freak them out so much.
They’re both pretending to be humans after all. And it seems like he’s doing a much better job at being a person.

I have a maybe stupid deltarune chapter 5 AU idea:
Flowery refuses to let us close his dark fountain, even if Asgore objects, for the sake of him and his friends finally having the elevated consciousness that was once always out of reach for them. Effectively saying that unless the fun gang literally kills them all, they can’t close the fountain, and that closing it would even be the same as killing them. That it isn’t fair their fountain stays open, if they’re the ones who would die either way since they can’t be brought to theirs and can’t stay in the one they’re already in.
After kicking their butts with his OP fuckass determination powers, Flowery compromises with the fun gang to close their castle town and bring all the castle town recruits to the flower shop.
Ralsei and Susie are, of course, kinda pissed that they have to share dark fountains now. Susie grows a bit more used to it, as she befriended pretty much all the flowers and wanted them to come with in the first place, but Ralsei is. Not adjusting to no longer being the one providing things in the dark world for his friends. He’s no longer the prince of his own castle.
Asgore is also now a part of the party, working alongside the fun gang to gather clues and research the fountains further, as well as assisting in future battles.
and I know there’s stuff in here that makes no sense, like, the flowers said they’d die in the darkness anyway, even if their dark world didn’t close, and, where is the roaring knight here? Wouldn’t they have still taken Asgore? And to that I say:
Well…uh…this is just an excuse to fantasize about a world where we get to keep the flowers ok….
….I just really like seth and green and yellow and blue and aqua and orange and and…
