Indigenous history in Canada is suuuuuuuuuuper suppressed. We haven't had the visibility or pop culture impact that Native Americans have.

One of the frustrations of educating people on Indigenous issues in Canada is that the majority of people are starting from level one. Most people don't even know what nations are nearby, can't pronounce the names of local reserves, and aren't even aware of how many words in Canadian English come from Indigenous languages.

Canada is the expert at 'there is no war in Ba Sing Se' level propaganda. I meet immigrants all the time who don't even know we exist, they were genuinely under the impression that Canada was some Nordic European nation or something.

This means I can't assume that allies know shit. If I want people to help I very regularly have to grit my teeth and hold people's stupid hands until they catch up on our politics and terminology.

IT'S A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS.

But it's part of the work.
