If we just had one, ONE opportunity for us to talk to Rollo before his crash out arc and talk about our experience with magic we could have had a glorious moment but Twst took that from us.
Yuu: (explaining the lore of the Overblots of 7 mages, one Direbeast that is currently violently using firework magic, how they got drop kicked into a whole new world with no magic, how their Headmage does absolutely nothing to help them, how they got kidnapped by Scarabia students, how they went homeless for 3 days, how they don't get paid, how they are the school's free therapist and more)
Name: Eugene (It's pronounced like Yuu-jin so their nickname was Yuu right before the actual Yuu arrived.)
Gender: Idk bro
Age: 17
Year: 2nd year
Dorm: Scarabia
Club: Mountain Lovers Club
Height: 5'8
Nickname: Ika chan/Squiddie from Floyd, Jin, and Genie chan.
Occupation: Student, tutor, part timer at Sam's Mystery Shop, works sometimes at Mostro Lounge, does random stuff if they get paid.
Magic or Magicless?: Magic user/Mage. They can use magic, it's just they were also suddenly sent to NRC without warning.
How they got to NRC: They closed their eyes, woke up and suddenly they were in a casket and they just broke out of the casket because they thought they were being human trafficked or something.
How it happened:
Riddle: "OFF WITH YOUR HE-"
Jade: (Wheezing on the floor)
Azul: "I don't know him."
CRASH
Eugene: "Yo what the actual FU-"
(Crowley gave them a lecture on patience.)
Note: This was a year before the Prefect arrived so this was also the same Orientation day where Floyd pulled on Riddle's bangs and got his ass whooped.
The funny thing was when the Prefect arrived everyone's reaction except for the first years was literally "Oh not again" until they learned the Prefect was magicless which was the shocking part.
Based off: You guessed it, the Genie from Aladdin.
The Genie is also seen cross dressing in the song, "Prince Ali" so that's why I made Eugene's gender the most mysterious thing to ever exist. It's like the whole "we've had a 3 month debate over this and they refuse to say anything."
They respond to any pronouns, but most go by she/they because they look a bit more feminine than masculine. Was this literally just be swapping the cross dressing order? Probably.
Personality: Calm, all rounder and adaptive person. They can fit with anyone, like a puzzle piece that matches every piece. They're friendly and laid back, easy to please and hard to anger. They always read the room and is competant. They're very resourceful. A mix of Cater, Trey and Jamil all in one.
Appearance: Black hair, and black eyes. They have a very androgynous face, like their eyes are very big but they look like a guy sometimes and looks like a girl sometimes. Their hair is long though. (Think Asian person with long hair.)
Favorite food: Jams, and buffet food. (Jams because, you know, Genie but buffet food because of the whole "I'm fine with anything and everything" thing going on.)
Least favorite food: Stuffed dates (no specific reason, they keep getting offered stuffed dates as a sign of hospitality) or fortune cookies. They ate the paper inside once and choked. Also they don't like fortunes.
The reason Eugene is based off the Genie: There are two main traits and it's that 1. the Genie can't leave the lamp and Eugene can't leave Twisted Wonderland, 2. the Genie can't wish for himself and Eugene doesn't have the resources or time or opportunity to do anything.
Main thing: The Genie can't leave the lamp without the wish of the owner of the lamp, and Eugene can't leave Twisted Wonderland without the help of others.
Also this is how the whole "Yuu suddenly arriving to NRC" went down.
Riddle: "A human from another world?"
Leona: "Again?"
Ace: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN AGAIN-"
Vil: "Paperwork."
Kalim: "A lot of paperwork!"
Leona: "I skipped the paperwork."
Housewardens (except Leona): "We know."
Fun fact: Eugene is not worshipped or famous in a celebrity way, but they are mentioned a lot.
You want tutoring? Eugene's a tutor.
You forgot lunch from the cafeteria? Eugene probably has a backup lunch.
You need to get to class? Eugene knows a short cut.
You need to overthrow a government? ..Eugene probably knows a guy?
The whole gender thing and how it happened:
Ace: "Eugene's a guy."
Deuce: "Huh? Aren't they a girl?"
Jack: "So are they a guy or a girl?"
Cater: "Oh yeah we asked a few times."
Epel: "What'd they say?"
Kalim: "They said, 'Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?'"
Anyways, I just created them because I wanted a character that would specifically work toward the goal of literal survival in a whole new world. Of course unlike the Prefect, Eugene can use magic but other than that, it's the same. I wanted a character that wasn't focused on the Overblot or the tournaments, and just worked on financial stability and returning to their world.
Their UM is either they help others use their magic by being the one who collects blot for them, or something that buffs everyone's magic but their own.
Not just intellectually, but also street smart and emotionally smart and physically very capable.
Like the type of person who meal preps, studies, exercises, and honestly an overall normal, well rounded person.
Something that never lasts long at NRC yet here they are.
(As you can probably tell by now I dislike the stereotypical Y/ns, or the new chaotic versions. The second version is very entertaining but far away from who I actually am as a person. I also dislike the idea of Yuu's only purpose being to thirst after characters.)
Side note: This is an HC, pick out the ideas you like, throw out the ones you don't like.
The Prefect, who remains the top student of the first years, for multiple reasons.
One of them being the fact that they received higher education, either by a tutor, or by them pursuing a higher education as they are older than their fellow classmates. Or they got the Riddle treatment.
The Prefect keeps making deals with Azul even when the first year friend group yells at them to stop and keeps getting out of the deals before they lose something and it ragebaits Azul so much. Azul and the Prefect have a bit of a love and hate relationship going on because Azul wants to beat them SO MUCH and the Prefect keeps escaping them like two miliseconds before they are caught. (Aka the street smart part.)
They also keep working part time at the Mostro Lounge and is the only reason Floyd is consistently engaged and working whenever they are there. Aka the second reason Azul has a love and hate relationship with them because they keep jumping out the window (metaphorically and literally) whenever he offers them a full time job.
If the Prefect ever gets a full time job at Mostro Lounge, Jade will quite literally book them for every day he's working, or every day Floyd is working, or just every day. The Prefect is NOT seeing the light of day again.
The Ramshackle dorm is probably a little bit cleaner than in canon for several reasons.
Riddle keeps sending the Prefect to tutor Ace and Deuce and somehow whenever he does that, Vil sends Epel who's a dumbass who drags Jack along with him and then Ortho joins for socialization and then Lilia pushes Sebek into it so he can make friends.
Imagine Grim and the Prefect have to add their test scores to each other's and divide them in half to get their actual score because they're a "2 in 1 deal".
The Prefect is quite literally the only reason Grim has not been expelled for academic failure and the teachers KNOW it. (the Prefect is scoring 100s every test for a reason lmao.)
The Prefect also probably goes around doing stuff for others when they are free, like speedrunning cooking for Jamil whenever Kalim throws a party, or organizing a study group for their other friends, like Kalim, Ruggie, Cater, and more with Riddle and Azul as the other two tutors on occassion.
They are pretty street smart, so I'd imagine them doing tutoring on the side for paying off bills, and bothering Crowley until they get paid their promised allowance, and doing random side quests for Sam to get discounts.
They did so many side quests for Sam that they somehow get 50 percent off all of Sam's products. No one knows how. (There is some parental favoritism in there.)
I'd imagine they probably save coupons, and befriended Ruggie out of their shared financial situation. (They're crying in broke.)
I can also definitely see them being friends with Jamil and Ruggie specifically since they all work in service in some way.
They are 100% the favorite student of the teachers, because of how hard they work both inside and outside the classroom. (This happened specifically after they saw the Prefect pass out, get back up, pass out again, and then apologize and go back to work.)
The Prefect probably has a cult. I don't know, probably. Or a fan club. If the Housewardens have a fan club, I'd think that one dude who came to a whole new world magicless, tamed a direbeast, beat 7 Overblots while magicless, and lives in what's considered a fucking haunted and abandoned house has a fan club.
They are THE heart throb of the school and they have accidentally acquired many sugar daddies.
Since the Prefect is probably physically capable, that's likely how the first years (except Ortho), and probably the entirety of Savanaclaw came to like them.
It'd be funny if the Prefect was like, talented in music, like both singing and dancing so Rook chased them down during the VDC auditions and Grim had to be like "HEY, HANDS OFF MY HENCHHUMAN!!!"
The Prefect is also the only reason Grim is being fed (fucking fatass).
They also, albeit to the dismay of all NRC students, get along with RSA students (Canonically, the Prefect in game has never looked down on RSA students either.)
They have managed to rizz Chenya, and then Neige when they met, and then accidentally rizzed up everyone else. Rielle was very easy to rizz.
HCs:
I like to think the Prefect indulges Malleus's yapping sessions about gargoyles and genuinely remembers some of them, especially about his rants about grotesques.
The first years keep breaking into the Prefect's dorm to sleep over or to escape their dorm. Grim decided after their 4th break in to demand that they bring foods or extra stuff in as a bribery attempt whenever they wanna crash.
There was a war between everyone when the Prefect was deciding which club to choose until Grim just dragged them into that one big back club.
The Prefect sometimes visits multiple clubs just for fun and joins them sometimes. Especially the smaller clubs, like the Gargoyle Studies Club and the Mountain Lovers Club and the Light Music Club.
Jade drags them to hike with him almost every week, sometimes Floyd steals them away and drags them to watch him play basketball or someone else takes them.
Cater sends reels at 3 AM after they get really close and drag them out to eat cute desserts with him which is literally just him taking all the pictures and giving them all the sweets to eat. Neither of them complain. Free food is free food.
The Prefect has been invited into multiple group chats, including the Light Music Club one, and more.
The Prefect is the only person that willingly helps Lilia cook, other than the times the Diasomnia squad tries to salvage the cooking by directly helping Lilia.
The first years have this secret handshake that they keep gatekeeping whenever others try to copy them.
The Prefect is one of the only people that actually listens to Sebek when he talks about Malleus.
The Prefect genuinely scares others sometimes in a good way because they keep remembering small things about their friends for their gifts.
Epel sends you to Vil as a replacement sacrifice whenever he's trying to get Epel to do skincare. (Vil prefers this as well but he will never admit that.)
Jamil, Ruggie, and the Prefect has some GC together.
The first years have a GC where they keep forgetting to go to the actual GC and go to the shared GC with all the first, second and third years, say some wild shit and shocks everyone. (They once saw Epel typing some tarnation of a series of curse words because Ace stole his ice cream that he hid in Ramshackle.)
The Prefect did not fear Riddle, even before his Overblot because they don't have magic, so other than the mildly inconveniencing feeling of having a collar on they don't have any problems going on with being collared.
Most of the upperclassmen's crushes on the Prefect grew after their dorm's Overblot.
There have been MANY attempts of each dorm to have the Prefect move dorms (to theirs specifically).
After everyone basically had a crush on them, or just began to really like them as a person, the Ramshackle dorm's situation became very clear to them, so Ramshackle was fixed faster than in canon.
AKA: A person who is a genuinely decent, and sane person. (Shocker.)
They all die during some apocalypse/Overblot moment (I'll just say Malleus's Overblot because why not) and all end up back in time.
Instead of realizing they're back in time, the first years all have a moment for around 3 ish days where they all assume they are in an alternate dimension because their friends (other first years) are being way too nice.
They all wake up back in time right around Orientation, including the Prefect and Grim. The Prefect/Yuu did not act calm but instead of "OMG WHY AM I IN A DIFFERENT WORLD AND WHY DID I COME OUT OF A CASKET AND WHY IS AN EVIL BIRD MAN STARING AT ME" they were more like "..Is that Grim or am I on crack?"
Ace and Deuce did not fight or have the cauldron moment and just met during Orientation, and Epel did not fight Vil during Orientation.
Jack and Sebek (who was uncharacteristically quiet) were both trying to lock in and figure out if they were back in time but witnessed Ace and Deuce getting along and Epel being very calm and both decided "Yup this is NOT my world".
Ortho was running data and had half a hunch he was only back in time due to some super duper cool tech data he got telling him his info of the world he was previously in and the world he was currently in had a 100% match but decided to fuck with the first years and remain quiet.
All of the first years had come visit Yuu and Grim after Orientation to drop off some spare stuff they had, like clean pillow sheets and pillows, blankets, cooking utensils, extra shampoo and towels, albeit extremely awkwardly.
At some point Yuu had decided "Yup this is NOT my world" (part 2) because of that and because Epel and Sebek were both way too quiet.
Epel did NOT have his Orientation uniform vignette story happen because he hadn't fought Vil and had Vil's table manner lessons drilled into his bones. Rook did somewhat figure that Epel was not originally born into a noble family due to 1. his table manners being just a tiny bit sloppy (curse his hunter instincts) and 2. Epel had caught his eye and 3. he did seem slightly out of place and seemed awkward amongst his fellow classmates.
Sebek was quiet since he was trying to think so it scared every single Diasomnia member in existence (aka just Malleus, Lilia and Silver).
Ortho was acting normal around Idia but had basically been acting "odd" and seemed like he wanted to go somewhere else but had been trying to seem calm.
They figured it out when Ace didn't punch Riddle (the Overblot happened either way.) and all of them (Sebek, Jack, Epel and Ortho were all hiding around since they figured the Overblot might happen) went "AHA-".
Eventually all of a sudden NRC had 8 first years all bickering loudly and running after each other as if they had been friends all along.
They witnessed Deuce summon a cauldron on top of Ace's head and everyone was panicking except the first years who were like "Yup this is normal."
A child who was raised to be the future king. A child who was feared, and regarded as an adult. A child, who even adults couldn't talk to.
A child that others could not see behind the infinite power that he held.
A child who should have been treated like one, yet wasn't.
A child that didn't get to be a child. That is what makes up Malleus Draconia.
A person that was feared and avoided before he even knew why he was feared.
He, who had those who loved him in their own way. Lilia, whose love was the most obvious, but even he could not fill up the void in Malleus's heart.
Silver and Sebek, whose loyalty overshadowed their love and friendship that they had with Malleus.
His grandmother, who loved him, but was busy with her duties.
His servants, who avoided him like the plague.
His peers, those around him. Those who stared, but never approached.
Except you.
You, who did not recognize him. You, who did not associate him with danger. You, who called him Tsunotarou after one conversation. You who helped him realize what it was like to have friends.
It was easy to win him over, he was a simple person after being deprived of affection for so long.
Especially if the person he was with was a fearless human that talked to him like an equal.
However, he did not believe it would last. Those who knew him ran away. Those who knew him saw his title, and his power first before the person behind it.
Perhaps he did not think you would be any different. Perhaps he assumed you would regret calling him in such a friendly manner, and do everything in your power to stay away after learning about his identity.
Maybe he did, and maybe he didn't. Yet, you proved him wrong either way.
And yet, you always stayed. It was never obligation, or pity, or false bravery. What was the oddest thing was that to you, it wasn't some dramatic show of bravery that befitted a fairy tale.
It was just something you chose to do. Just a thing where you looked at him, decided he was funny, and chose to stay.
And out of everything that he dealt with, I feel like Malleus was confused by this the most. Was it this easy? Then why couldn't anyone else do the same except you?
You approached him as a friend. Asked questions that were normal among friends, yet completely new to someone as isolated as Malleus. Malleus was surrounded by those who admired him and respected him. But not someone who asked him "what's your favorite color" out of curiosity and nothing more.
Maybe Malleus didn't know what to say. Not because he'd never thought of it, or never had time to think about it. No, all he had was time.
It wasn't that he didn't have thoughts, it was that no one ever waited long enough to hear about them.
And after realizing you wouldn't pull away, he'd fall head over heels, platonically or not.
It was already easy to please him, all you had to do, at least at the beginning was chuck a VDC invitation at him and he'd be a happy dragon, all smug and humming to himself at his dorm.
And the most pitiful thing, is that this was all it took. One simple step.
A single step towards him, one tiny attempt and he would run a mile for them. He would come running to them and give them the world. But no one except his family took that step.
No one realized that he was a child, underneath all that strength and power.
Yes, Malleus is arrogant, but he is arrogant for that is how he was taught. He was taught that he was different. It didn't have to be told to him, anyone with half a vision could see with ease.
Not only was he born different, he was treated differently. He was taught that he wasn't like other people, that he didn't belong with other people. That he was "gifted". Why would his servants fear him if he was normal? It's because he was talented and powerful! (Of course this guy develops a raging god complex who wouldn't?)
I think what could have stood out to Malleus the most was that your decision to be his friend came so easily to you. A natural thing. You thought he was cool and decided to hang around him. It wasn't a dangerous choice that you made to save millions, it wasn't a sacrifice, it wasn't some thousand-step-by-step mission.
You stayed, and he let you. And that, was honestly it. And I think that's what made him swoon.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk guys.
Side note: He is not gonna have a "moral spouse dying of mortality" angst moment. Nah he's pulling a Ghost Bride Move.
Azul "Nothing is ever free" Ashengrotto vs Reader "I just wanted to give you something bro it's not that deep" [Last Name] where they are dating and they go to war over this every day.
Yeah that's it. That's the entire plot.
Azul's having his daily crash out of the day the moment you give him something without any reason out of love and refusing to accept his transactional deals or point systems in return.
Meanwhile you're having your own daily crash out when he follows you around for a week just to figure out how to pay you back (like that Twisted Wonderland Anthology episode where he followed Kalim around trying to pay him back for helping him get his hat back after it got stuck on a tree).
Azul would try his hardest to not even think about hugging or making any physical contact with you when you two are sleeping together. He tries, and he fails.
It took one day, the next day you wake up with 4 limbs stuck around you that you can't seem to even get rid of. (Just imagine Azul using both his arms and legs like how a sloth clings to a tree.)
Then he wakes up and dies of embarrassment and either tries to gaslight you and fails or tries to bribe you to forget what he did.
During the first week, especially after his failure to keep his hands to himself, Azul decides the next best option is OBVIOUSLY to put pillows and a rolled up blanket in the middle in order to keep his distance.
Yes it is childish. Would that stop him from trying in order to save himself from further embarrassment? No.
However, each day ends up with Azul crossing the makeshift border that he made himself, and every day ends with you unable to leave the bed until he wakes up.
I'd imagine he tried to make the border/line even higher until you had to sit him down and tell him that three layers of pillows on top of each other just to create a wall from you was a little too far.
After a bit of reassurance that this was by no means embarrassing and that you found it endearing, Azul would likely loosen up.
Does that mean he will stop trying to be nonchalant? No.
Another thing about him is that as an Octopus merman, his grip strength is inhuman and you will be unable to remove him no matter what. (He is NOT nonchalant.)
As someone who lived in the sea for the majority of his life, Azul with almost a 99% guarantee has those cooling pillow cases that are made with breathable materials.
As he used to sleep in the sea with nothing but the sea water surrounding him, I'd say Azul isn't exactly someone who finds blankets to be that big of a deal. Azul does canonically seem fond of pillows due to them improving his sleep.
Azul does not hog the blankets. He hogs YOU.
He likely has some of those summer blankets that are thin and lets air in to make them cool. He probably complains when it's a bit hot since he's used to the cooler temperature.
He, without a doubt, falls asleep in his office while trying to work overtime and either you or the Leech twins have to drag him out. It depends ENTIRELY on Floyd's mood.
You have witnessed Floyd carrying Azul on his back like a potato sack, groggily grumbling about wanting to sleep while Jade was laughing hysterically and recording.
Azul falls asleep in the Lounge and wakes up to his bed only to find that he's restricted every opportunity for you to escape by cuddling you to death.
Floyd Leech on his way to "hug" (attack) a bunch of students (victims) and test the level of strength he's legally allowed to put into his squeezes before anyone or anything breaks so that he (hopefully) won't kill you:
Hi honey, now that we do have two of the new rsa characters revelation and Minajael os 3rd year and Rielle 2nd we can assume they met ignihyde vice housewarden reader could you please give us a insight of their relationship with him? Like when he used to be in rsa and was a housewarden and all, also can we presume he was housewarden at megara's dorm? how he became a housewarden at his 1 year and all? Do they still keep contact with reader since he transferred school? since it still is on the same island and all
Hello! Thank you for asking!
Actually my original plan was to make them the Housewarden of Privalo (the Savanaclaw's opposite dorm) because if you check some of my older posts you can see that this specific reader was in Savanaclaw before they moved to Ignihyde (something I added because we have two students that transferred from, or wants to go to Savanaclaw), but yeah either Privalo or Psycheros (Ignihyde's opposite dorm).
They became the dorm leader (for either dorm) after accidentally making their old Housewarden insecure with themselves with their grades or whatever they were good at and while crying like a Disney princess the old Housewarden gave them their spot before running off like a diva. (I made this for shits and giggles, but either that or they fought and Reader won after trying to help someone who was being bullied by the old Housewarden but the other one's more fun.) But the general idea is Reader got popular fast and the old Housewarden was a 3rd year and they, for (multiple) reasons, gave the spot to Reader fast.
Reader moved from RSA after their first year at that school but before that, they definitely knew Minajael in person but did NOT know Rielle since they are a third year and only knew people above or in their grade. Rielle was not in RSA when Reader was a first year so sadly, they did not know each other in the school.
However Rielle met them outside of school (FOR THE PLOT TRUST). All second and first years of RSA that have not been released have met Reader outside of school or during some random hangout that they visit once in a blue moon.
Rielle met Reader near a beach for the first time and fell head over heels and mind you this is when he wasn't in human form so this is the "Ariel meets Prince Eric for the first time" moment and Reader was a tiny part of the reason as to why Rielle wanted to go on land. However Rielle was a year late to RSA (he vaguely remembers Reader having an RSA uniform on when they met) as "that mysterious person" was already gone. (Cue another dramatic Disney princess sobbing moment.)
Minajael was in class with Reader and absolutely went on adventures with them. I feel like Reader would have been one of the first people to teach Minajael about "normal people life" (Cue Aladdin x Jasmine moment). They had classes together and both of them were partnered up a lot for projects.
Minajael's love story was a slow burn (for about 7 months?) going from friends to "having a crush". However Minajael was already the type to flirt so Reader never noticed.
Think both of them have a Ariel x Eric and Jasmine x Aladdin relationship dynamic and add onto what you want!
And Chenya also likes Reader, so bro keeps manifesting himself into NRC just to visit them for fun.
Currently there is a running joke (half joke people that actually had a crush on Reader take it literally) that Reader was taken by the evil bird man. (Insert 'THEY WANT YOU' sound track/In The Navy sung by Crowley.)
And yes! They DO keep in touch! The students have an RSA group that that Reader is not allowed to leave :)
In which where a certain prince decides, why keep escaping blind dates when he could just marry YOU? (Minajael x GN! RSA 3rd year! Royalty! Reader)
Minajael had done it again.
He had not offered a polite excuse. Had not made a strategic retreat. Not even a grand speech about having the right to marry who he wants and leaving through the front door with a flick of his coat.
He hadn't walked out with dignity, not slipped away quietly, no.
He launched himself out of a second story window with the level of grace equivalent to that of a startled cat and landed in a bush that did absolutely nothing wrong to deserve such treatment.
There was a long pause as he attempted to quietly get out of the bush, branches snapping and leaves rustling as he did so.
Then, a voice from above, with far too much exhaustion.
"Please stop escaping blind dates like it's a heist."
Minajael froze.
Because that voice, that flat, tired, judgemental, and painfully familiar voice, meant that he had been caught in the worst way.
Slowly, very slowly, he turned his head upwards.
"I can explain," Minajael began as he looked up to your disappointed stare.
He couldn't exactly continue making a valid excuse while still half-way inside a bush.
"..You jumped out the window. Not a lot of room there for reinterpretation."
"It was a tactical exit."
"Tactical my ass, you knocked over a tea set on your way out."
"It was in my path."
You exhaled slowly, pressing two fingers to your temple. "You were on a blind date. Not infiltrating a fortress."
Minajael finally untangled himself from the bush with what remaining dignity that he could salvage. "In my defense, the conversation turned towards marriage expectations within 5 minutes of small talk."
"That's what blind dates are for. Mina, they pull this once a week."
"That's what NIGHTMARES are for."
"I refuse to be paraded around like a decorative vase towards strangers who think that marriage is a personality trait," he muttered, scowling with annoyance at the thought.
You leaned slightly over the railing, looking down to see the mess that was currently your friend. Disheveled, annoyed, but still very much alive. "Did you try saying no?"
"I did."
"And then?"
"They kept talking."
"..So you chose defenestration as the next best option," you concluded. "Yes, that makes perfect sense. Why choose to walk out the door when you can yeet yourself off the second floor through a window?" You asked, your voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I chose freedom," was Minajael's defense as he pointed upward slightly.
You sighed, before muttering, "One day they're going to start putting guards outside the windows."
"They'll have you catch me first," Minajael added with a grin.
"I am begging you," you continued flatly, "to exit like a normal human being."
Minajael tilted his head, before announcing, "Desperate times call for desperate measures."
"Shocking. Truly the most shocking thing I've heard in the past.. 20 seconds."
Minajael glanced up again as a quiet moment of silence passed, before asking, "Why are you even here?"
"I was invited," you answered. "And unlike some people, I use the door."
"Bold strategy."
"It's worked every time so far," you shrugged.
Minajael hummed, absentmindedly brushing off the last of the leaves. Then, almost automatically, he stared upwards towards you, his gaze remaining for a second longer than necessary.
Neat, and staring calmly, as if you didn't just witness him hurl himself out the window just to avoid a young lady asking him how many children he wanted.
Annoying.
Conveniently annoying.
You ignored him, sighing. For someone who was sharper than most, Minajael came up with the most random ideas for the sake of his freedom from royal politics.
Which included the time where he stole a magic carpet that was supposed to be sent towards his cousin in order to use it to make his 4th escape that year.
..It was February.
Minajael shifted his weight, glancing down at the thoroughly flattened bush beneath him, (which he was pretty sure was a bush that cost millions of madols to even tend to) and then back up. "You're judging me."
"I'm thinking."
"That's more dangerous."
"I'm thinking," you continued, ignoring him, "that if your problem is being forced into marriage arrangements-"
"It is," Minajael nodded.
"Then perhaps you could simply make yourself unavailable."
Minajael blinked, whipping his head up again to look at you.
"..What?"
You tilted your head slightly, expression calm in that unsettling way you had when you'd already thought five steps ahead of someone.
"If you just find someone as unwilling to marry as you, and convince them to just stay with you so that you'll look unavailable, then people will stop trying to get you to marry. After all, they'll think you're engaged."
There was a pause. A painfully long one. Somewhere in a distant, a bird made a very loud, and unfortunate noise.
Then slowly, visibly, something clicked. A lightbulb turned on in his head.
"Of course, I doubt that you would do such a thing, so consider it as a simple jest-"
"Oh."
You frowned slightly, not fully understanding the chaos that you had brought upon yourself. "..What do you mean, 'oh'?"
Minajael straightened, now fully out of that completely, and utterly destroyed bush.
"Oh," he repeated, this time with growing energy, "as in, 'oh, that is brilliant'."
You narrowed your eyes, leaning on the railing. "Now I'm getting scared."
"No, no, you started this. Now listen," Minajael said, pointing at you like he just discovered fire for the first time. "You're right. Completely right in fact. Engagement does solve everything."
"Yes..?"
"And," Minajael continued, pacing around in circles now, "as long as that person is suitable, someone convincing, someone that my family wouldn't reject, it should be fine, right?"
Your expression shifted into a frown. "...Yes."
"And," Minajael went on, voice picking up speed, matching his pace, "it has to be someone with status. After all they are trying to set me up with reputable princesses that don't have "questionable" pasts.. Someone that my family doesn't think will embarrass me in front of half the continent."
"..Mina."
"And, someone I can actually tolerate."
You went still.
And right at that moment, Minajael stopped pacing.
No, no he turned around. And looked directly at you.
The silence stretched long enough to be dangerous. And then:
"No."
Minajael grinned. "Oh come on."
"Absolutely not," you announced.
"You didn't even let me finish."
"I don't need to, I know more than enough to know what you're getting at."
"You do actually. This is a very well-thought-out-proposal. It works out for the both of us. Aren't your parents trying to get you to marry as well?"
The silence stretched longer, and the more it did, Minajael's smirk grew wider.
"..Your plan is an incredibly idiotic-"
"It's not actually," Minajael interrupted. "Think about it. You're also from Royal Sword Academy, you're the heir to the royal family that my family is trying to befriend and ally themselves with, you have no troublesome background- in fact you're seen as a 'catch' by those grandmas trying to set their grandchildren up with others, aren't you?"
"I am not getting fake engaged just so that you can avoid conversations. I said find someone equally against the idea of forced marriage as much as you. When I said that I did not mean me."
"It's not just avoiding conversations," Minajael said. "It's a long term strategic freedom."
"No."
"No more blind dates."
"No."
"No more awkward tea meetings."
"Still no."
"No more-"
"Mina."
Minajael looked up, to see that you had straightened fully now, no longer leaning out the window. "You want me to lie to your family. Do you realize how bad this could go?"
Minajael held your gaze, before mumbling, "It wouldn't be a complete lie."
Minajael knew a thing or two about his life. He knew that despite his fortunate background, he would never be permitted outside those castle walls. Never.
His whole life revolved around the idea of marriage, and the chance of meeting a worthy suitor. It was a cycle, where he was met with those who only wanted him for his status. He knew, in the end, that he was just a pawn in a game of politics.
He could never leave. He could never join the masses, those brimming with happiness, and freedom. He could never be one of them, unless he fought back.
So, he decided. If he were to ever marry, it would be someone that he chose. Someone he picked on his own terms. Someone willing to explore with him, someone who could match his wit, someone he'd like to bicker with. Someone who would fill the void in his heart that always seemed to remain empty.
And so he looked up, up at you, who stared down at him with those tired, exasperated eyes.
And for once in his life, he didn't feel that void, the thing that he believed was a constant part about him. Something he thought was just another part of his body.
You blinked, just once. "Excuse me?"
"We.. already get along, don't we? I mean, I get along with you better than most people I know. So.. it's.."
You didn't respond.
"It's not.. that, ridiculous. Not completely, at least."
Minajael didn't look away.
You sighed, before muttering, "You jumped out of a window to avoid a conversation."
"Yes."
"And now you want to solve that problem of yours, by creating an even bigger problem?" You asked.
"Also yes."
"..You're unbelievable."
"I've been told that. Many times in fact."
You looked down at Minajael, for a long, and unbearably tense moment, eyes unreadable.
"..Fine."
Minajael blinked, eyes widening. "Wait.. really?"
You looked at him, incredulous, "Did you seriously ask me such a question without even expecting a positive answer?"
Minajael grinned, "I mean, knowing you? Yeah, I did."
"..Just don't jump out of a window next time."
"No promises."
"Oh Great Sevens give me patience-"
"Don't you mean strength-"
"If they gave me strength I would have killed you by now."
Note: This may be OOC since this is before Minajael's canon personality has been released, like the only answer I get when I google his personality is the shitty AI overview. However, I would like to add that this is a scene where Minajael already had a crush on you for a long time so he's just plotting at this point.
I don't think Kalim is the sun and Jamil is the moon.
Let me clarify: The popular opinion of their dynamic is Kalim, the sunshine boy, and Jamil, the calm moon. I hate those.
Kalim is not an innocent, naive, sunshine, always happy, always lucky, nepo baby. He's emotionally intelligent. He's not stupid, he just believes in second chances, and is just so kind, amongst more shrewd people to the point that he's SEEN as stupid.
Kalim's generosity is often overlooked as his "stupidity", and the fact that he grew up by being praised for average things, and somehow still grew up to be kind is also overlooked.
It doesn't take a lot for anyone to be traumatized after seeing their best friend get poisoned by food they were supposed to eat, you know.
He has gotten kidnapped. He has gotten poisoned. He has trauma, and it's seen in the game. He hates curry for a reason.
Something like this, that should be seen as resilience, is often seen by the fandom as just another thing Jamil had to deal with (the fact that he got poisoned for Kalim, and all the stuff he did in order to keep him safe, along with him not being able to eat curry becuase Kalim hates it). And yes, it is true. Jamil has to technically do all that but Kalim is still a victim of a traumatic series of events. Jamil is also a victim but Kalim's sunshine like personality stops the fandom from looking too deep into his trauma.
His guilt is also highlighted toward his friend, Jamil, not sadness over his own situation.
Jamil is not a silenced slave that never fights back. He might be silenced and enslaved but he's definitely fighting every step of the way and screaming curse words at someone or planning to gaslight them. He is scheming a hundred different plans to overthrow the government. He's Jamil "burn down the corrupt government and build a new, better one" Viper.
Jamil being a quiet, tired, parent figure (which he technically is), is not the full version of his character.
If we are specifically using the famous lyric "I shine only with the light you give me", a reference to the sun and moon trope, yes, both of them can be the sun and the moon, with the Kalim as the sun, and Jamil as the moon trope being more popular. Jamil shines only with the light that Kalim, and his family allows him to have, as his status as a servant holds him back. Yet, Kalim is also the moon. He also only shines with the light that Jamil gives him. He's not been given a proper chance to fight freely for the number one spot without Jamil helping him by stepping back into the shadows.
However, that is not what I was trying to mention.
I mean their personalities. Jamil may seem calm, yes, he's tired. He's composed. He's quiet, he seems like the moon. However, he's more ambitious than anyone. About as ambitious as Azul, though Azul’s greed/ambition is divided into many aspects, with Riddle claiming he had a finger in too many pies. He, during Book 6 firmly believes that if he wasn't holding back due to his status and situation, he'd be able to do as much as others, which Leona points out. His belief holds him back more than anything. Not to forget that his entire Overblot was based on his desire to be free, a show of his ambition.
Yes, Jamil can be seen as the moon: being forced into the background while Kalim shines brightly.
However, Jamil burns. He burns bright, he would burn himself into destruction if it meant tasting freedom before he died. He would burn in the most bright, and dangerous way, grabbing everyone's attention. Jamil burns with potential and self destruction in his core. Jamil isn't just lacking in ambition, he's just containing it, and hiding it.
He can be the moon, but that's only if Kalim is seen as the sun.
In my eyes:
Jamil is the sun, or, he can be considered a star. After all, a sun is a star. If we simply talk about Jamil himself, without involving Kalim into anything, he is a star. Because stars don't just exist to be seen, they burn regardless. Some may just disappear without even being acknowledged, but they are still bright, and massive, and overall: burning.
Kalim, is the moon. The moon can shine even when it is dark, during the night, mirroring his ability to remain positive even when things are bad. However, his light is artificial, since his light is based off how much he is given. Even without Jamil being the sun, he can still be the moon as he is often controlled.
Although, the thing about Jamil being the sun and Kalim being the moon is that I feel like then the sun should shine more than the moon.
However, I think if Jamil wasn't forcefully hidden he would burn brighter than Kalim in some shape or form. So, more likely the sun is forced to be "eclipsed" and the moon suddenly has a spotlight on them.
Either way, both of them are severely mischaracterized or oversimplified.
I'm just saying, if Jamil was the type to easily give up he would have never Overblotted and attempted to make a cult.
If Kalim was just a naive, sunshine character, he would have not offered to become Jamil's real rival, nor would he have punched him.
They have so much more depth than what the fandom sees.
Rielle looks like the type of guy who'd visit the ocean for fun with his friends, forget sunscreen, and get the worst sun burn of his life because he forgot that he does not have that "merman sun resistance" no more and Minajael now has to like, put aloe vera on him while he's screaming into a pillow, Chenya's laughing at him and Neige is extremely worried.
He would have gone wild the moment he learned to walk after he came to land.
Bro has been waiting for this moment his entire life.
Like look at him. Not a single thought in his brain. And we love him for that.
He's been waiting to whip out a musical number about visiting the land people and being a part of them and proving to his dad that he's grown now.
He genuinely looks like he'd sing in public, out of no where. And people would actually like his singing for some reason. He definitely does improv.
He definitely arrived on land and immediately started grabbing things he thought was pretty and began sticking them in his hair and then adapted to sticking them onto his clothes.
Never seen a more accurate depiction of ADHD in a character before (except Floyd).
Hi hi i Hope you feel good, I was wondering if your twisted wonderland readers know that other characters like them ? In the overworked reader you wrote that Azul humbled them and I started to wonder If the readers knew others liked them. I hope you know what I mean sorry if my English is bad have a good day/night
Well, usually if I make one of my Reader personas aware that another person likes them, I make it slightly obvious. For example, the Reader paired with Rollo specifically knows that they are fine shyt and absolutely keeps flirting with everyone to fuck with them, and specifically flirts with Rollo.
"Angel"! Pomefiore Reader knows they are pretty, and also uses it to their advantage and is generally aware if someone likes them romantically or finds them attractive, however they've grown used to said attention so the closer they get to a character platonically, their idea that the person likes them romantically just slowly deteriorates, so they're just normal, to be honest.
3rd year! Ignihide Vice Housewarden! GN and Rich! Reader is a very odd one. They are pretty but rarely recognize that and tend to focus on their hobbies more than themselves, and have no idea anyone likes them, because of the fact that other people liking them or having a good impression of them does not impact their life at all.
Leech Sibling! Reader knows they are liked, but has no idea that they are romantically liked.
Of course, going into depth here would make them all into OCs, and honestly I did project my OC personalities onto here but yeah.
So, if you don't like how specific they are, ignore that they are technically "x reader" and slap a random name onto them and think "Yup, this is an OC now". I don't care to be honest.
Anyways, some of them know, some of them don't.
And finally, for your actual question that I ignored while rambling:
Overworked! Reader is like Jamil. They know Azul is dangerous, they will never get into a contract with him, and the most they will do is work at the Mostro Lounge for a quick cash grab. HOWEVER, ALL they know is that he is dangerous, and that he "wants" them at Octavinelle for some reason. They have not realized Azul likes them, and neither has Jamil and it's a fun thing to think about.
Question: SO! How are you feeling with two RSA character revealed?
(The twst fans are obssesing them btw, especially the twst jasmine version)
I really like them! I am honestly very fond of Neige personally, Rielle is really really cute, and I love that his main idle is literally just him daydreaming like it's so fun to see that since he is Ariel's counterpart.
Rielle's design is also so very ADHD coded, and as a person who believes that beauty is universal and subjective, I love that his design shows how he loves everything that he sees. Whatever he finds fascinating, he grabs, and wears. It's so lovely to see how he's not afraid to show that he likes something. I feel like Vil would be slightly thrown off by his look (NOT SAYING HE WOULD HATE IT, I just don’t think he’d wear it), but personally, I love it.
His color scheme is also very interesting. Yes, it's based off Ariel, but honestly I expected him to show more skin, and expected the designers to dull him out a little bit. Green, pink, blue and purple all mixed into one design is not something you see very often! I like that they stuck to Ariel's original color scheme and didn't choose to make him more "normal".
Also he gives me pirate vibes due to his belt.
ALSO I love that he's not "pure white boy" or "dark skinned", and he has a tan. I love that, since none of the other characters have a sun tan. It plays a lot into the fact that he probably went rogue for a bit when he finally came up to the land and just started running around.
Minajael, I like him. He has a good variety of expressions, or at the very least, has very detailed ones and it's great to see. It's nice to see that not all RSA students are the stereotypical happy go lucky characters that are naive. I feel like our fandom has a habit of just stereotyping them a lot, but I think Minajael helped prove them wrong.
Love his hair, especially how he has these two bandanas (or one with two colors) wrapped around his braids, though I can't tell if that is his hair or just his bandana made to look like a braid. He looks like he'd have long hair though. It's very unique. I love how they kept his color scheme intact, and his clothes pattern is very flamboyant, which I love. I feel like Jasmine (at least from what I remember) didn't have that much of a diverse pattern around her style, so seeing that is really cool. The floral design is also a nice touch!
His jewelry is also really beautiful, and while I am unaware of his culture, nor can I make an accurate assumption about it, I think that it was a nice touch of the designers to give him flamboyant jewelry. The big earrings, and the necklace, the gold fabric embroidered onto his jacket, they are all very pleasing to look at.
It is rare that I find a character to be attractive, nor do I simp for a lot of characters. So, I tend to pay more attention to their designs. Sorry if you wanted me to start barking for either of them and being like "MARRY MEEEEE-" (That's reserved for very specific characters.)
Also, seeing Ambrose and Crowley argue was great.
Also: WE HAVE MORE DARK SKINNED MEN LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!! I love that it wasn't just a "light skinned character" that can barely pass as a dark skinned character. Also love that Minajael was NOT whitewashed because thank the Sevens.
I wish people would stop saying Jamil looks chopped though, like they keep saying how Minajael is so much more detailed but I think I personally like both of them a lot.
I also do want to talk about Neige, since I am fond of him. I really like his design, though many call him ugly compared to Vil. I think the main thing about the two of them is that Neige is "cute and approachable", and Vil is the type of beauty we think of when thinking of "fairest one of all", or just "beautiful". I do feel like Vil got type casted a lot, but I still really like Neige.
I personally love his eyes (though others claimed it was what made him ugly), and honestly, he's sort of got that "nerd aesthetic". He has a patterned shirt underneath a light blue, dark blue, gold, sweater with squirrel patterns on it, along with a red bow tie, pins and all. Some call it ugly but to be fair I think it's really cute. It also suits his whole vibe, along with Snow White's color scheme. To be honest I cannot think of a way I could design Neige's outfit with Snow White's color scheme unless I do it exactly like that. I would do the same thing if I could draw.
