I can see Kevin as straight but i cannot for the life of me see him having a forever with Thea. I just don’t know much about her, and what i do know doesn’t really make me feel like i can ever warm up to her.
Instead, i see them giving it a real try, and it works for a while. They’re a power couple in the exy world, they’re constantly pushing each other to be better in the sport, and it really looks like they’re unbreakable for a good few years.
Then Thea gets accidentally pregnant. I haven’t figured out why exactly they go through with the pregnancy; maybe they found out too late, maybe it became public before they could terminate and it would’ve been an unsalvageable blow to her image to get an abortion, maybe she really didn’t think it would change their lives all that much what with all the hired care they have access to, idk, but they do go through with it and they have a beautiful baby girl with curly hair like her mother and green eyes like her father.
But reality isn’t exactly like the plan. Motherhood is more demanding than Thea is willing for it to be and Kevin’s focus on exy is slipping, which was a big foundation of their relationship. After almost a year of being the three of them, Thea decides that she doesn’t want that; she wants her ild life back and she wants to keep chasing her dream with razor sharp focus like before, and she decides to leave, making Kevin a single dad.
Kevin ends up retiring earlier than anyone in his life or in the media thought he would, but he’s accomplished so much in his career that no one can say that his potential was wasted. He will be missed on the court, but he left behind a huge and bright legacy.
But the retirement doesn’t really come as a surprise to anyone close to him. Kevin used to live for exy, it was the center of his life, the thing that kept him going forward. But Kevin has a new thing to live for now, and instead of revolving his existence around exy, he revolves it around his daughter. She had become the center of his life since the moment she was born really, even before he retired to be her primary (only) caregiver.
And so it’s just the two of them for a few years. But it’s not really just the two of them of course; Kevin has a big family of people of love him and would do anything for him, and he for them. So the Day home becomes a gravitational point for the foxes. Whenever any of them are in town, they always have to pay them a visit, they never miss a birthday or a major holiday without meeting up in their city, and Whymack and Abby are there so often during the first few years of baby girl’s life that she was shocked to find out they don’t live in the same city.
But guess who does live in the same city?? Allison, who adamantly refuses to let Kevin be in charge of that girl’s wardrobe or styling as long as she is still breathing. She insists that if she left it in his hands, she would be constantly either in sweater vests or sportswear and this girl is going to be a STYLE ICON KEVIN, what would you know about that anyway?🙄
And so Allison ends up at their place A LOT. So much so that she kind of becomes and permanent fixture in their lives, because if you’re gonna be here to play dress up with her all day then you might as well stay for dinner Allison, it’s in like thirty minutes anyway I promise I won’t feed you health freak bullshit, and yes i did finally learn how to cook, I’m a dad now you know??
This goes on for so long that it’s not just dinner now, it’s can you please help me figure out her school play costume? Well now you have to attend it, she’d be devastated if you didn’t! And why don’t you join us today, we’re going to the park and then having ice cream, you haven’t come by all week, she really misses you.
And at some point they realize that it’s not only about her anymore, they really enjoy each other’s company too. It starts small, like Allison helping cook dinner with her while baby girl is watching tv, and becomes staying for hours even after Kevin put his daughter to sleep, just hanging out only the two of them.
And by that point, Kevin had gone back to college for history postgraduate studies and quietly became a history professor. He’s been consistently going to therapy, he’s sober, he’s made strides to fix his life so he can be there for his little girl in every way she needs, and in the process he’s become a whole and well rounded person, so they know this isn’t just him falling back on what’s familiar, this is real and he does have feelings for Allison and it may have started because of all the help she’s been with his girl, but it’s not actually about that because he feels like he can talk to her about anything and he misses her when she’s not there and he looks forward to seeing her and she kind of feels the same.
