part twoo..
james already clocked out when the call came in, normally marlene and remus would take the call but remus had some family emergencies and asked james to take his place, james always the best friend, kindest man ever, took his place. him and marlene arrived to the location almost 10 minutes later. and when they got inside of the building they realized something was off, building staff looked oddly worried, they asked about it.
apparently security who was on duty wasn't watching the surveillance and didn't see that the lift had stopped. it had been almost a hour since the lift stopped when he turned the surveillance screen back on, and what he saw made his blood freeze. there was a man passes out and a woman who seems like she was about to loose her shit. this neighborhood had mostly poor people and from the look of their clothes they didn't belong this neighborhood, he didn't know them but he knew the fact from time to time some wealthy people visited Gilbert family from 10th floor. he was afraid he offended wrong people and immediately called rescue.
James carried Regulus with surprising ease, rushing through the hospital doors and shouting for a doctor. Marlene, quick on his heels, was already explaining the situation to a nurse. "Claustrophobia, panic attack, and he can't move his legs!"
"Which doctor is on call?" James asked, his voice filled with a concern that made Regulus's heart flutter despite his body's revolt.
"Dr. Evans," the nurse replied, already directing them to an examination room. "She'll be right with you."
Regulus, still rigid with a mix of fear and the lingering effects of his traumatic response, was gently laid onto the bed. Dorcas, her face a mask of worry, never left his side. James, surprisingly, didn't leave either. He just… talked. He talked about the ridiculousness of getting stuck in an elevator, about the time he got stuck in a tree as a kid, about his terrible luck with vending machines. He spun tales with a natural ease, his voice a comforting murmur in the sterile room. Regulus, despite his inner turmoil, found himself listening, a faint smile ghosting his lips.
A moment later, a woman with fiery red hair and intelligent green eyes walked in. "Dr. Evans," she introduced herself with a warm smile, her gaze immediately assessing Regulus. She moved efficiently, checking his vitals and asking Dorcas quick, precise questions. While she worked, James continued his one-sided conversation, occasionally throwing in a comment to Dorcas. To Dorcas’s utter astonishment, Regulus actually chuckled at one of James’s more outlandish stories – a genuine, unforced sound that she hadn't heard from him in years.
"Alright, Regulus," Dr. Evans said, her voice gentle, "your vitals are stabilizing, but it looks like you've had quite a shock. We'll run some tests, just to be sure there's no underlying issue, but it seems like a severe panic response. And..." her eyes, sharp and perceptive, lingered on Regulus's still, unmoving legs, then flickered to his calm, almost blank expression. "Have you experienced this kind of physical shutdown before?"
Regulus, still going by the fake surname 'White,' shook his head subtly, a lie that felt heavy on his tongue. He knew what she was implying.
"Well," Dr. Evans continued, a thoughtful frown on her face, "we can talk more about coping mechanisms once you're feeling a bit more up to it. For now, try to relax." She stepped out briefly to get something, and James immediately picked up the conversational thread, seemingly oblivious to the unspoken tension.
Just as Dr. Evans returned, an urgent call came through for James and Marlene. "Emergency meeting," Marlene mouthed, looking apologetic.
"We'll be back as soon as we can," James promised Regulus, a fleeting touch to his arm that sent a jolt through Regulus's nervous system. "Keep talking, Dorcas!"
With James and Marlene gone, the room felt suddenly quiet. Dr. Evans, now alone with Regulus and Dorcas, turned her full attention back to Regulus. Her expression softened, becoming more direct. "Regulus," she began, her voice low, "I've seen responses like this before. It's often a sign of deep-seated trauma, sometimes from childhood." She paused, letting her words hang in the air. "It's not unusual for the body to freeze when the mind is overwhelmed by fear, especially when there's a history of... difficult experiences."
Regulus's jaw tightened. He met her gaze, stubborn and unyielding. He wasn't about to spill his family's dark secrets to a stranger, no matter how kind she seemed. Lily sighed, a slight crease appearing between her brows. "I understand if you don't want to talk about it now. But please, consider it. There are ways to work through this. Can I at least get your contact information? Just in case we need to follow up, or if you change your mind about talking."
After a moment of internal debate, Regulus, surprisingly, gave her the number to his 'safe' burner phone – the one he used for non-Walpurgis related matters. Lily nodded, a small, knowing smile playing on her lips. She obviously knew Sirius, and the dots were undoubtedly connecting in her brilliant mind.A week later, the air crackled with excitement at Fabian and Gideon’s bar. Remus had gotten a well-deserved raise, and the entire firefighter team was celebrating. James, never one to miss a party, had dragged Sirius and Lily along. Remus, in turn, had invited Mary and Peter. The place was buzzing, a cacophony of laughter and clinking glasses.
And then, they arrived. Regulus and his crew – Pandora, Xenophilius, Barty, Evan, and Dorcas – entered, their presence adding an unexpected frisson to the night. Pandora and Xenophilius had a target in the bar that night, a particularly slippery character connected to Walpurgis Company, and the others were there for backup, a formidable (if slightly eccentric) security detail.
The night unfolded like a wild dream. The music was loud, the drinks flowed freely, and inhibitions loosened. James, spotting Regulus across the crowded room, made a beeline for him, a wide, infectious grin on his face. He started talking, just as he had in the hospital, and Regulus, to his own surprise, found himself drawn into James’s orbit. Soon enough, they were dancing, laughing, and then, in a dimly lit corner, they hooked up.
Sirius, meanwhile, had found his way to Remus. Their conversation, initially hesitant, soon flowed with an easy intimacy. Before long, they were lost in each other, a long-simmering tension finally breaking.
Dorcas, always pragmatic but not immune to charm, found herself captivated by Marlene's fierce energy and wit. (i mean who wouldn't) Their connection was instant, electric, leading to a passionate encounter. Evan and Barty, already close, succumbed to the undeniable chemistry that had always simmered beneath their banter.
(yeah... they fucked... all of them)
The next morning, the bar was a distant memory for most, but for Regulus and Dorcas, paranoia was a built-in alarm clock. No matter how late they slept, they were always up at sunrise, their minds immediately switching back to their mission. This morning was no different. Regulus’s phone buzzed with a flurry of texts from Barty.
“WE GOT IT. PANDORA’S A GENIUS. EVERY. SINGLE. THING.”
In their hurried escape from the bar, fueled by adrenaline and the monumental success of getting the target’s phone – thanks to Pandora’s incredible acting skills – Dorcas had completely forgotten to exchange numbers with Marlene. She was so consumed by the news, the sheer thrill of their victory, that it slipped her mind entirely. She loved her job, and this was the biggest win yet.
Regulus, ever the more methodical of the two, had remembered to leave his number for James, along with a quick, apologetic note for their abrupt departure. The only problem was, in his haste, he'd missed the last two digits. When James woke, the lingering warmth of Regulus still a faint memory, he immediately reached for his phone. He saw the note, the number, and a hopeful smile spread across his face. He dialed, but the call wouldn't connect. "Number does not exist," the automated voice stated. A frown creased his brow. He tried again, then again, but always the same frustrating message.
Realizing the mistake, a spark of determination ignited within him. There were only 100 possible combinations for those last two digits. Seventy-two, if he excluded the ones he'd already tried. He started systematically, trying every possible number, one after another. Each wrong number was a tiny prick of disappointment. Days turned into a week, and he started to lose hope. Seventy-two options felt like an impossible maze when each attempt led to a dead end.
Meanwhile, the Walpurgis Company, a monolithic empire built on deceit and death, began to crumble. The information gathered by Regulus and his allies, the irrefutable evidence from the seized phone, was devastating. News headlines screamed about corporate fraud, illicit dealings, and the shocking revelation of their involvement in multiple unsolved deaths. The Black family name, once synonymous with power and influence, was now irrevocably stained.
In the midst of this chaos, with the Walpurgis Company in full collapse, Regulus finally switched on his personal phone for the first time since that legendary night at the bar. He saw a string of unfamiliar calls from a single, persistent number. His heart skipped a beat. A slow dawning of realization washed over him. The missing digits. He immediately called the number.
James, exhausted but still holding onto a sliver of hope, picked up on the first ring.
"Hello?" he said, his voice laced with a mixture of weariness and surprise.
"James," Regulus said, his voice a little breathless, a tentative smile spreading across his face. "It's Regulus. I think I owe you an apology."But before that pivotal call, before the world came crashing down on Walpurgis, something else monumental had happened.
The day after the bar, after the initial euphoria and the urgent texts from Barty, Regulus had called Sirius.
It was a difficult conversation, filled with years of unspoken pain, misunderstandings, and the raw wounds of abandonment. Sirius, still reeling from the events of the previous night and the surprising reunion with Remus, was initially guarded, angry. But Regulus, finally able to explain, poured out his heart, detailing the horrors he had uncovered, the truth about their parents, and the desperate fear that had driven him away. He talked about Andromeda, about his allies, and about the plan to bring Walpurgis down.
As Regulus spoke, the anger in Sirius's voice slowly gave way to shock, then understanding, and finally, a profound sadness. He listened, truly listened, perhaps for the first time in years. The wall between them, built brick by painful brick over years of silence and misunderstanding, began to crumble.
"Regulus," Sirius finally said, his voice thick with emotion, "I... I'm so sorry. I should have known. I should have tried harder."
"We were both just kids, Sirius," Regulus replied, a tremor in his own voice. "We did what we thought we had to. But it's over now. It's really over."
And in that moment, across the miles, two brothers, estranged for too long, finally made peace. The past, though still painful, no longer held them captive. They had each other again, and that was all that mattered.
okay now think about it.
modern time muggle universe tom riddle has company that kinda kills people but not directly idk he's responsible for their death and walpurgis(?) too, yk black, malfoy, lestrange families kinda work for him so they are equally responsible for the deaths of those people and one day when he is 17 , regulus is 16, sirius found evidences that shows his parents, basically his whole family, are murderers, his first thoughts are like yeah we gotta get the hell out of here, he wants to kidnap regulus and run away from them but he got caught and beaten up (😔) he is literally taking his last breath when james and lily (on their way to home) see and save him.
meanwhile regulus thinks about their fight from the day before and he is kinda regretting the things he said when his parents comes and tells him sirius is no longer coming back, he is on a flight to another country, continent, he chose this they say. regulus believes them cuz sirius is reckless like that, he moves before he thinks. he fumes at first, like who tf moves to the other side of the world over a silly argument with their sibling, then comes the shame, regret. he is ashamed of himself for the things he said, the last thing he said to his brother is literally "no wonder you don't fit in this family" he doesn't think that, sirius must know he doesn't mean it, he is his big brother, he must know right?? so he calls him, straight to the voicemail, doesn't back down texts him multiple times. for weeks this becomes his routine. and he receives nothing not even "don't call/message me anymore" just nothing.
time passes and he realizes some odd patterns around his parents, their behavior, the secrecy. he is curious, naturally, and slowly starts to dig in. at first it's just some weird insurance documents, then cryptic mails between them and their boss. after some digging he become obsessed with the things he found. his family threatens some people he had never heard of, which means they are not from high society, that's weird.
by now it's been 5 years since sirius left him, he still thinks about him some days but their memories become distant. he is 21 and has new friends he calls family. and when he doesn't know where to look next he calls his friends, they always helped him and this time is no exception. not even 5 hours later he found evidences of the things his family done, he never, not even in his wildest nightmares, imagined his family could be this cruel. and now sirius's disappearance doesn't make sense, was he really in another continent or was he some collateral damage? he just thinks about him. feels like he is gonna loose his mind.
he and dorcas visits one of the victim's family to learn more and gather evidence to fuck his family up, one of his worst fears happens. when they are heading back the lift stops. to be fair he doesn't show his panic and horror but doesn't move either. thanks to his parents parenting skills he learns to be afraid of closed places. trauma responds kicks in and he is suddenly paralyzed, can't move, can't speak, has trouble while breathing. they are stuck there for like an hour and regulus starts to see spots from the lack of oxygen. he wants to say something to assure dorcas, she's panicking, that he's okay, but he can't speak, can't even look her in the eyes. his consciousness is slipping when he realizes dorcas' voice sound louder than before, it's like she is talking with someone, not with him that's for sure. he is not sure if he's hallucinating or not when he hears other voices, muffled but definitely there. he is too young to take the black madness legacy, so he doesn't want to believe he is hearing things, with his last strength he forces himself to look towards the source of the voices. lift's door was definitely closed, but why is it slightly opened now, and keep opening. he doesn't understand what is happening and his eyes starts to betray him when he sees him.
that's it, he thinks, this is the day I die and this angel of death is gonna escort me to hell. he made peace with this fact. prepared himself to die peacefully when he feels warm hands on his face. he is not used to being touched with such delicacy. now he's sure, %100, he is dead. so he let himself fall asleep for the last time. at least the last thing he saw was something beautiful.
dorcas was freaking out since regulus stopped responding her and now seeing him loose consciousness she feels like she's gonna loose her mind. yeah regulus has some weird fears and personality traits but this, this is new. it felt like, since the lift stopped regulus stopped working too, which is weird cuz regulus is a human being, but there was no better example than that. and ever since she heard the voices of the firefighters from the other side of the lift she tried to get them to help regulus. lifts door opened and she rushed them to regulus's side immediately. not even glancing at their face, which is rude but acceptable giving the surcamstance.
customer: food was so good. compliments to the chef.
james: (confused but willingly) suuure

james to regulus: you are so pretty literally love of my life
regulus: thanks ig
In my head I am constantly thinking about a canon divergence AU where Wei Wuxian writes a letter about some talisman related questions to Lan Qiren a year before the classes at Cloud Recesses. Even if Lan Qiren is reluctant at first and immediately sends WWX all the Lan Clan rules they form a sort of mentorship/friendship via letters.
When WWX is climbing over the walls and Lan Wangji finds him it is actually because him and LQR are testing the Lan wards. If WWX manages to break in and find more flaws in the wards LQR said he gets to keep the emperor's smile. That's why WWX first words to LWJ are "You're not supposed to be here"
