I do have to say that if I had changed my name, moved halfway around the world, and cut all contact in hopes that A Lot Of Distance would help with my crippling depression situation, and then I came into work one day and my crush was there dressed as me as a child, and my Actual Dad was there calling her by my name that I hadn't heard spoken aloud in five years, I would perish on the spot.

If I were the dad in question I would astral-project out of my body, find another dimension to inhabit, and stay there.

So it's a real credit to their professional acting chops that Ren and Kuu took like two seconds to be gobsmacked before playing it sufficiently cool that Kyoko, with no idea of the relationship and preoccupied by maintaining her performance, almost didn't notice anything.

(And what she did notice she put down to the fact that she was roleplaying a ten-year-old boy with a famous movie star she was calling 'dad' for no apparent reason, and even in the acting business you're allowed to look askance at this.)

the correct way to read skip beat is to binge the entire manga, try to keep up with whatever the recent arc is but get frustrated because of slow updates, think to yourself "ugh maybe this is mid" and give up on it, come back many moons later, re-read the entire (now completed) arc and go "holy shit this slaps actually", rinse and repeat

kyoko being so convinced that ren is a Playboy™ is so funny because. kyoko. kyoko. that man is SO pathetic. he's never been in love before and when he finally does fall in love he chooses the most emotionally unavailable woman in japan. a giant chicken mascot (who's secretly kyoko) is his romance guru. he's mesmerized by kyoko's strange and unpredictable behavior. he comes up with convoluted reasons to spend time with her. he hid an expensive jewel inside a giant rose and invented a fairy tale about it to get her to accept it. he's constantly jealous of the one guy kyoko is extremely vocal about hating for life. he's so transparent about his feelings that anyone who spends 5 minutes in the same room with him and kyoko can figure it out. kyoko he is a LOSERRRR!!!
