Those 4 am laughter will be missed
DAY ONE
Good morning. It is 4 am.
Yes. This is us – AIESECers, who could head to our next adventure before the sun wakes up. After getting ready, some of the teammates gathered in one room waiting for the others. It was a heavy rainy day. We shared jokes to wake each other up, we laughed at Haseeb’s blue raincoat and how he opened the door at the taxi driver’s side yesterday, and we made funny and random Snapchat. This was how we started the day. When walking out of the dorm, I was at the end of the group and took this picture on my phone and in my mind: us with luggage, and a combination of the rain, the yellow streetlight and the darkness.
Our 5:30 am train today took us to Băile Herculane in Caraș-Severin County. For some reasons, I couldn’t fall asleep right away. I went over all the pictures and videos on my phone and remained silence. This would be our last trip together as a group. I then fell asleep with my lost thoughts. Three hours later, we, a group of sleepy young people, met our host at the Historic Monument Train Station. The host drove us to the wooden house, which surrounded with mountains. I woke up immediately in front of this rarely-seen-in-city view. I squatted down to play with a dog. I walked closer to see a horse, and of course I stood and smiled for the beauty of nature. After putting down our luggage, girls were assigned to prepare ingredient in the kitchen, while boys were busy chopping the wood. Everything here is organic. The host set up the fire and used a special pan for making the omelet. I mentioned in the past article that I have an egg craving sometimes. When the craving was fulfilled, I was definitely more than happy. Everyone filled themselves with food and satisfaction. I then ran into a food coma that a nice nap before all the fun started was a need.

It was hard to pull myself out of the cozy bed in the wooden house; however, we were not here for a nap, but discovering the most of Romania. It didn’t take us too long to get to the city center, where has various hotels, restaurants and crowds. I gradually realized that I just entered a popular resort. Băile Herculane is well known for its various types of hot springs in this small area. People come here for the legend that the weary Hercules stopped in the valley to bathe and rest and the belief that the hot spring is beneficial for health. We tried two baths today: one was Baile Venera, and the other was more famous but I couldn’t remember the name. Going to the second one in the late evening was definitely an adventure. We dressed in swimming suits and just a towel while walking to the bath. It was a little bit chilly and as a girl, I was shy. After looking up at the starry sky, the joy took over the concern in my mind. It was the most beautiful thing I have seen in my entire life. All the shooting stars I had seen in the past week could not even compare to this.
I stepped my toes into the hot spring. Then let the warmness and comfort touched my toes, my legs, and finally covered me. The feeling of stepping on the rocks under the water was the best massage. It was a different yet cool experience. Moreover, I had never been in love with Romanian food, however, I changed my mind after having the traditional food “sarmale” from the host. I need to try very hard to stop eating anymore.
DAY TWO
Today’s laughter started at 10:30 am. Our dear host treated us with delicious organic food again. This trip to Caraș-Severin County was originally not included in the project. I paid for the trip myself in order to see the Danube River and the Rock Sculpture of Decebalus. When arrived, everyone couldn’t stop saying “Here is Romania” and pointing to the other side of the river, “Here is Serbia.” Seeing two countries at the same time was definitely something special for us. We got on the boat with excitement. The boat passed by the Rock Sculpture of Decebalus. This giant sculpture is about forty meters, and well known as the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. We took pictures and videos and enjoyed the best time on the boat. In addition, having a tour guide explaining the history in the Veterani Cave was another highlight of the day.
The night fell and the weather got cooler. We gathered at the dinner table and had the authentic Romanian soup, which was perfect for the weather. Some of us lay in bed for a rest, some of us took more pictures outside, and the rest sat and chat in front of the wooden house. Before saying goodbye, everyone grabbed a big slice of watermelon. Not only boys but also girls were regardless of the eating manners. We just enjoyed the watermelon and the refreshment. This trip ended up with running towards the train station. Unfortunately, the train was delayed, leaving us mocking how we all ran so fast. 10 pm laughter was worthy to be remembered as well.
