The worst thing about being in a secret relationship was probably that big moments and celebrations never included Ilya. There Shane was, turning 28, surrounded by the people he loved and yet- the person he loved the most was missing. He smiled his way through dinner and it was a nice party, he had to admit. He had only invited his closest friends -Hayden, Jackie and Rose - and it was altogether a really pleasant affair in his apartment.
He just wished Ilya were here as well. But the two of them had a long way to go before they could come out as a couple. See, the whole couple thing was a rather recent development for them as well. He put on some music as they mingled in the living room and ate the birthday cake Rose had brought. "If you're running out of movies to be kidnapped in, you should consider opening a bakery," Shane complimented her and the others chimed in in agreement. Just then, a notification lit up Shane's screen and he quickly pocketed the phone to make his way to the bathroom. It was a voice memo from Ilya. He closed the door behind him and turned on the tap for good measure before pressing play.
