would you mind posting the audio of lindsey calling stevie baby during the chain recording?
Stevie: and we didn’t get any of that on?
Lindsey: well we’ve got it all rehearsed, baby
Stevie: I know but I wish we had have gotten all of it
Lindsey: why?
Stevie: the whole song
Lindsey: well let’s try it again from the top

Sorry if you've answered this before, but what do u think went down between Lindsey and Stevie before he was fired from the band?
That’s ok. I have but tumblr’s search function doesn’t work for me so I can’t find the post.
Basically I think it’s a lot of little things that have snowballed over the last few years:
Chris’ return to the band
It had been 15 years of Buckingham Nicks feat. Mick and John and I think SnL were enjoying the way things were. Not to say Chris shouldn’t have come back, but Stevie’s always felt a little threatened by the Buckvie friendship and maybe it put doubts in her mind about where she fit into this new old dynamic. Would she lose her place as Lindsey’s offsider like she had in the 70s and 80s? She burst into tears when she saw them working on World Turning and she knows they have a great musical connection, she’s not about to be tossed to the side for Christine again. Especially after their little Buckvie bff tour.
Lindsey’s pressure to go back into the studio
When Chris came back with fresh songs, he was excited to cut a new FM album. Stevie was initially on board but kept dragging her feet, and eventually pulled out. I’m sure Lindsey was hurt by this as I believe all he’s wanted since SYW era is to make more music with her. Most people agree the real reason she didn’t do the album is because she’s not writing anymore. She has old demos but she’s too proud to bring them in because Chris and Lindsey are writing new songs (and she wouldn’t communicate this with them, she’d just say it was a bad idea which would only upset him more). There’s probably some resentment there towards Lindsey as well. He’s still writing great songs while she can’t or won’t. I don’t think that competitive streak ever died for either of them.
Tom’s death
Obviously this was a big factor. A very good friend and one of the few people in her life who kept her on the ground. She took this hard and I can see her wanting to bring Mike Campbell into the band as a second guitarist. Who better to lean on in this difficult time than Tom’s best friend? Of course Lindsey would veto this as soon as she brought it up and I can’t see her being okay with that. Historically, Stevie doesn’t handle grief well and she wouldn’t be able to rationalise why Lindsey (or anyone else) would take issue with this.
Lindsey’s statement re Buckvie (and calling their duet album Buckingham McVie in the first place - stupid)
“We were exploring a creative process, and the identity of the project took on a life organically. The body of work felt like it was meant to be a duet album. We acknowledged that to each other on many occasions, and said to ourselves, 'What took us so long?!'" Was he trying to poke the bear? I get that he was upset with her for not participating but this was the worst thing he could have said knowing she’d probably read it and just get more pissed off.
The Dance situation
I don’t want to feed too much into the narrative that Stevie is jealous of Lindsey, but watching him have children and marrying another woman affected her greatly. Not just because she is possessive of him and his love for her, but because he got what she always wanted - and she has always wanted it, even when she says she doesn’t. This would only get harder as time ticked on. 71 and no babies or grandbabies to play with in her twilight years, just her and the dog. I’m sure she blames him for ruining her life, even though in reality they’re both at fault for not making their relationship work. But in this situation, in her eyes, he won. From hurt, bitterness grows.
The tour meeting fight
We know that there was an argument when Lindsey asked the band to push the touring date back by three months, but we don’t know what was said. Stevie and Lindsey could have thrown some nasty words around in the heat of the moment. Perhaps one of his comments stuck with her.
Her health is deteriorating
She’s old. She did hard drugs for decades which could have seriously damaged her brain. She’s forgetful, rambling and barely with it these days. Whats to say she doesn’t have some sort of early onset dementia? I’m not a doctor but she’s in the right age bracket so it’s not the craziest theory. Stevie stans please don’t attack me.
A decision no one makes...again and again and again and again
The constant back and forth between them, together/not together/together again...maybe one of them just got sick of it and cut the other off. Stevie was probably too afraid to take the leap and was waiting for him to lead, and I don’t think he would unless he got a concrete ‘I want to be with you’ from her. As one of Kristen’s close friends said, Stevie is “delusional and batshit crazy, finally realised it was never going to happen 40 years later. She was still pining for the man while he was at home raising a family with his amazing wife.” Barf and not to be trusted because it’s told from Kristen’s POV - but there could be some truth between these lines...
So there are some reasons why I think it unravelled, sorry for going off but I’ve obviously thought a lot about this lol. I definitely don’t think it had anything to do with a smirk or the walk on music at Musicares. It was a personal issue between him and her and that’s why no one will say. I hope one day we find out but I won’t hold my breath.
Stevie being cute mirroring Lindsey... and as always, a McVie in between them.
