"There's nothing to change..."
The first thing I wanted to do for the nightmare series is to go over older dreams that I think are still haunting... This one is actually a redraw of an old dream journal entry from 2018 you can see here. I did it quickly to try and capture all of the things that went on- the themes and imagery, etc- as soon as I woke up.
I wanted to more accurately try and replicate the mood of the dream this time around. As a result, the paint swatch with hex code, floating bowl of stolen chopped-off arms and old school television didn't make it in. I tried adding in those elements, including the quote I heard in the dream as text ("You cannot go back.... There's nothing to change..."), but they all just felt like too much. The man was in a reddish void and made somewhat of static, without many discernable features, which is what I wanted to focus on. Adding more to the image felt crowding and contradictory to the emptiness/void I wanted to imply.
After spending so long feeling the need to paint/draw everything myself, it's weird to have relied so heavily on photo manipulation for this one. The images used were available for reuse with and without modification, and are the following:
