that ‘when mcr say they want to be dangerous they really mean gay’ post is hilarious but also like. yes. exactly. that’s what they were going for. that was on purpose.
i’m really not joking in the slightest btw. people forget how violent and rigid the mid to early 2000s were against queer people and women. mcr getting onstage led by someone who bent gender roles so harshly they triggered an entire generation of trans crises and proceeding to kiss each other and sing about gay sex and specifically cater their audience to center queer kids. that was a very very in your face style of protest. when they say dangerous they DO mean gay. what they were doing put targets on their back. they knew exactly what that meant and what it was there for.
stage gay was not profitable! femininity was not profitable! none of that shit helped their PR and in fact was a threat to their safety! they had bottles thrown at them and slurs hurled in their direction! mcr was DANGEROUS! and they embraced that because they and all the other queer kids that listened to them were in that line of fire no matter what.
