In the Hand of the Goddess-era SOTL crew
It's been said before but I'm saying it again: being mentally ill and very self aware of it is extremely annoying because it's like:
My Brain: You are worthless and everyone is making fun of you.
Me: Uhh, no? I just had an extremely minor, low stakes misunderstanding, and everyone was very cool about it. It's fine. No need to panic.
My Brain: [immediately dousing itself in cortisol] You don't get to decide that. Now I'm cancelling all of the dopamine and serotonin. You can just sit there and think about your unforgivable error.
Me: Wildly unnecessary, but ok I guess

Did I grow up in a particularly diverse part of Indiana or do people in America just grow up not knowing about Mardi Gras?
Me: oh! Mardi gras is this week!
Beef: whats that?
Me: its the big last hurrah before you fast for lent.
Beef: oh its Muslim.
Me: ... no bro, thats Ramadan. Ain't y'all Christian? Y'all know Lent.
Beef: yeah but I never heard of the Mardi thing.
...I guess for context, i did grow up in a mostly catholic area but like... I feel like i learned this in 4th grade.
Mainstream American protestants are usually extremely ignorant of Catholic practices. Liturgical protestants - Lutherans, Episcopalians, and some (but not all) Methodists - are more likely to know what you're talking about, but Southern Baptists, Evangelicals, most regular Baptists, and Congregationalists just...... won't. It's entirely irrelevant to them.
I find that... so weird to me. I grew up Methodist and my church was really proactive about telling us what other Christians are up to. But I guess it is about context- they probably wanted us to know catholic stuff figuring we'd learn about it on our own through the community.
See, I just remember learning about it in school under an umbrella of "different parts of the US have different religions or variations of a particular one" and then it was kinda a "sometimes the religious celebrations/events become so widespread, notable, or, celebrated that they then become celebrated by those who are not part of that belief system."
And it was just considered good to bring up various ones, so I'm always surprised when people react like "why would I have learned about not MY state/area/religion's stuff?" I dunno. Because people and things exist outside your vision and you only grow more by learning about things like this.
This was a kind of sweet dashboard coincidence.
dry humping in its specificity as a term implies the existence of wet humping
