I didn’t know we pretty much made rubber and were the first to use rubber in sports. I didn’t know Mexico derives from Mexica the true name of the Aztecs. I didn’t know we domesticated the wild tuba into thousands of varieties of potatoes 🥔 I didn’t know we made corn 🌽 from scratch and that it was one of man’s first feet of selective breeding. I didn’t know we came up with the concept of Zero. 0️⃣ I didn’t know we were incredible astrologers and mathematicians and probably mapped the stars better than anybody else on the planet. I didn’t know Beaners also had Amerindian DNA. I didn’t know the Aztec domesticated the turkey 🦃 I didn’t know the Inca were performing brain surgery. I didn’t know there was Native American, first nations or indigenous people from Greenland to the southern most point of Argentina and the Caribbean. Now I know. but this would’ve empowered me greatly as a youth in school to know my ancestors accomplishments. I used to walk around with my head down wishing I was anything else but Mexican. I never did but I swear I wanted to be like most of the Mexican youth and say my grandma was from Spain too. Growing up in Oregon with Catholic, Spanish-speaking parents who were also brainwashed. I wasn’t going to be learning these things.
