Classes start next week and holy fuck I'm so nervous and excited. I'm determined this semester to stay ontop of my work, I refuse to let myself fall behind on studying again. Last semester was a shit show and I so badly want this semester to be better
AI and Copyright Law | AusLaw
Just a small ramble about AI and copyright law because I find it incredibly interesting. So I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the infamous Naturo v. David Slater case that occurred in America in the mid-2010s, in which a monkey took a selfie on a man's camera and Slater, said man, was trying to claim copyright over it. It was ruled in the end that he did not own copyright, but nor did the monkey as the monkey is not a person and has no legal footing of ownership.
Under the Copyright Act 1968, only humans in Australia can claim copyright and legal ownership over a produced item, meaning any good. I am trying to find proof of this and am unable to at this time but I also think its reasonable to say that the law prohibits the manufacturers of a product hold any claim to things produced with their product to certain degrees (i.e. Sony doesn't own images taken with sony cameras once they sell them).
I am curious to see how this translates into AI-generated images. As of now there are no laws of copyright in Australia regarding AI images so if we were to apply the current copyright law who would own those images?
Well, you must be human to hold copyright which AI is not. But to use the camera manufacturer analogy, can the creator of an AI reasonably own anything produced with their product, especially given the nature of AI at this point in time.
If current AI models are simply reading the internet and merging information how are we able to put a title of ownership on parts of an image. A library doesn't own the books they shelve anymore than you don't legally own a book just because you read and referenced them.
In the monkey analogy, we are the monkey, using a tool (the camera or the AI) and the owner of the camera is the creator of that AI. As our current laws stand no one owns those images!
I'm just fascinated by how this will develop over the coming years.
Study partners wanted!
Genuinely throwing this out there, would anyone be interested in being study partners/study accountability buddies? I’m trying to commit myself at 3 hours of school work each working day and am already struggling. I’m gonna try to post more to hold myself accountable but if anyone is also looking for a study buddy or anything please hmu!
Oh how I love abandoning blogs for months at a time teehee

A bit of a question for fellow studyblrs - I really want to improve my handwriting, possibly learn cursive even. I was wondering if anyone had any good advice or resources they would recommend?
Productivity Challenge 3/100
I'm making some strong progress over the past few days, both personally and academically. I've got my dorm clean and organised for the winter semester and I'm picking up my gym routine once again.
I am, however, finding it difficult to get organised for my winter subjects. Despite the fact that they've already started we have had barely any contact from our teachers or information about anything so far. We don't have access to our learning page that we use to access lectures and tutorials or our timeline for the semester.
Maybe I was spoilt that my semester one units were so well organised but it's starting to really stress me out. I'm hoping we will get more information soon and it will settle down as the term continues - for now, I'm doing what I'm told to when I'm told and focusing on the little things I'm doing to keep a steady routine.
Assignment Tracker
Having trouble sleeping so I figured I would share this with people in case anyone is interested.
Given I'm doing law and politics, most of my assignments I get are word count based rather than project-based. So I've devised a system that I like for doing my assignments, based on a minimum aimed word count per day.
I found this helps with two things. 1, it motivates me to do at least a little bit of work every day, which both in terms of getting the assignment done and keeping a good schedule is very helpful. 2, it rewards effort, especially when I go above and beyond, which is a nice way to stay motivated for me when you're not getting active feedback.
So here it is, the wonderful google sheet!
Sheet1 Class: Assessment: Date Due,06/13/2022,Date started,05/26/2022 Days left to complete,19 Word Count Words per day,0 Tracker,Target W
How to use it:
Productivity Challenge 2/100
Today was the first day of classes for the winter semester, so I didn't really have a whole lot I had to do. We didn't have lectures on Monday, instead opting for introductions to class and course today, when we would usually have tutorials.
I have four assignments for my law class, but my social enterprise is one big project split up into smaller pieces; which is something I wasn't expecting from a politics class but I'm interested in starting them both. I made a new assessment tracker that I'm super proud of, which breaks down how many words you should write per day to meet the word count by the day it's due. Once I start using it and see how it goes I'll share it with everyone - I hope it'll be a useful tool.
I'm glad I don't have actual classes tomorrow, cause I ended the day with a little bit of a sesh and am the highest I've been in a while (which I don't think I'll be fully recovered from by tomorrow lol).
All in all though, a productive day I would say - mainly on the planning admin side of things.
Productivity Challenge: 1/100
Not much to actually go off today to be honest, since it is the first day of the winter semester, but I did get everything ready for that.
I'm doing two classes over the winter semester, which honestly I will probably end up regretting.
My first class, which is the one I'm less excited about but is the one that is most related to my course is social enterprise. I'm honestly not entirely sure what this course will end up involving, but from what I've read about it so far it's a community-based group project type thing which I'm not overly keen for. I hope it ends up being good but who knows.
My second class, which I'm far more interested in is Law Reform and Social Change. This is much more linked to the law part of the degree I'm doing and is a second-year course, which because I'm doing it now means I'm able to start a third-year course semester one next year which I hope will cut down some time from my overall study. I'm slightly worried it will be difficult since I'm doing firm law and contract law next semester so I'm not sure how that will affect this. If it gets to be too much I'm gonna drop this unit and pick it up along with a social economics class over the Christmas summer semester since I'll have far more time then.
For now, I have my books in order, my assignment due dates planned out, and everything sorted for the first lecture of each to be posted tomorrow! Wish me luck everyone!
A bit about me
Hello lovely people,
It's at that point now where exams are officially over and it is the start of the proper semester break here at uni. I figured now was as good a time as any to introduce myself to everyone, so let's get going.
To begin with, my name is L, I go by she/they and I'm 19. I live in Australia, where I was born, however, I moved across the country to go to school so I am now living alone on campus (which is its whole other bag of fun).
I'm doing a double degree in politics and law, specialising in economics, where I just finished semester one of my first year. In total, my degree is going to be five years, however, I am taking winter semesters to hopefully reduce that and am also hoping to do my master's after that.
With this degree I hope to become an economic advisor - this is basically part of the team that works for a political party to advise them on policies and actions in specific areas, hence why I'm specialising in economics. I think this is the best way I'm able to apply my love of economics in a way that is applicable and impactful in a system (that being Australian politics) that I think has the power to do great stuff.
I made this studyblr in order to keep accountable to my study patterns and to improve my study techniques. I have improved slightly over the past semester but I hope over this winter course I can set up good habits that I will be able to stick to next semester.
Some of my studyblr inspirations are @collegewithme, @dannypolicy, @myhoneststudyblr, @studyspiration-coffee, @small-town-studyblr, @psyychstudies, @emmastudies. Most of these I follow closely because they are studying courses similar to mine (especially @dannypolicy if you're studying politics they are one of the only blogs I have found so far that consistently posts about these sorts of concepts and it's great), but all of them have great work ethics and incredible insights, plus an aesthetic that I aspire to!
Outside of this studyblr I love to sew and create things: I've been really into knitting recently and have been knitting a lot of beanies and blankets that I give to charity. I love vintage fashion and sew a lot of my own clothes from old patterns I find. I love rock music, especially the Monkees at the moment, and I read a lot.
If anyone is also starting a studyblr or has any advice message me! I'd love to be friends :)!
Goodbye Semester One!!!
Hello lovely people!
I can excitedly say that, as of a few days ago, my first semester of uni is officially done! I now have just over a month break before semester two starts and I thought I would just note down a few things I learnt this semester, that will hopefully help me when school starts back up again.
Do as many in person classes as possible
One thing I learnt this semester is how much I hate online classes. While yes it is extremely convenient to be able to roll out of bed and watch a video or join a zoom call, it is also extremely hard to get motivated to do so. So please, next semester, choose classes that are in person as much as possible!
Each day, try to do something productive
Be it the gym or schoolwork, the hardest part is always getting started. Instead of just laying in bed and saying you'll start tomorrow, push yourself to start today. Even if it's not everything you planned, try to do one thing. It's better to go for a run and then come home and do nothing for the rest of the day than stay in bed and do nothing anyway.
Don't beat yourself up if you can't do everything
Goals and those plans that you make are wonderful, they're very helpful and you've gotten better at keeping up with them, but please don't beat yourself up if you can't get it all done. Like with the last point, it's better to do a portion of what you planned for the day than nothing at all.
Start assignments early
When you first get your assignments, like literally on the first day of classes, write them all down, and make a plan of when you're going to start them! I've since made an excel spreadsheet, which I might share when it's more automated, that breaks down how many words you should do each day between the start date and the due date. Please follow it! Give yourself at least two weeks, but honestly, the sooner the better.
I'll let you all know when I put these goals into action, but until then I'm aiming for some self-improvement/study setup stuff during the break so keep an eye out for that.
Have a good one lovely people 😊
Hello lovely people!
Hi everyone! My name is L, and welcome to my studyblr. I made this as a way of keeping myself accountable and increasing my productivity after a pretty rough start to my first year at university.
A bit of general background information about me, I'm 19, I go by she/they, and I'm from Australia.
I'll go more into detail about my current studying situation and prospect, but for now, I'm currently studying a double degree in politics and economics, though I'm planning on switching that to a double degree in politics and law next semester.
If you're studying any of these areas, or like me are just trying to get back into the zone of studying please don't be shy! Introduce yourself! I'm 100% for making cool friends and motivating each other :D!
