At this point, the 911 writers are just looking for excuses to sideline Eddie for every high stakes situation bc he's so competent that there wouldn't even BE any high stakes situation if he was actively involved without a deadly injury nerfing him. They created a character so cool, collected, and has no sense of self-preservation that they are afraid he would ruin the drama they want to dish out because he would have found and detained that gunman in a heartbeat before we even got to halfway of the episode if he was a healthy participant of the emergency so they decide to stab him and stuff him in a box.
