"A Flicker in the Dark"

"A Flicker in the Dark," written by Stacy Willingham and published in 2022, as the title suggests, is a dark psychological thriller. This captivating novel marks Willingham's debut in the literary world. Despite being her first novel, "A Flicker in the Dark" doesn't fail to keep the readers engaged.

This novel tells the story of Chloe Davis, a 32-year-old psychologist with a dark and traumatizing past, who struggles to live a normal life. In the beginning of the novel, we learn that Chloe's father, Richard Davis, was found guilty of killing six teenage girls in a single summer evening in Louisiana. Twenty years later, Chloe finds herself trapped in a similar situation, as if her life is replaying itself. A shocking revelation dawns upon her that everyone around her is nothing more than a stranger, hiding their own dark secrets. As she resolves to uncover these hidden truths, she discovers herself sinking deeper into devastation than ever before.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel from start to end. The uncomplicated theme stood out to me and became one of my favorite aspects. However, I believe the psychological setting could have been utilized more effectively. The revelation of the characters felt somewhat slow, to the point where I almost guessed the identity of the real killer.

Overall, it was an amazing read, and I would like to give it a 4-star rating. I highly recommend it to someone who is new to this genre.

Throughout the story, Siddhartha meets different people who teach him valuable lessons. He learns about inner struggles, desires, and the ups and downs of life. The book explores important questions about why we're here and what makes life meaningful.

The author, Hesse, does a great job of showing Eastern philosophy and spiritual ideas. Siddhartha learns from ascetics, merchants, and a wise river ferryman named Vasudeva. Each encounter teaches him something new about life and himself.
