Hi! I know you asked for art requests and I’m sorry that I’m this is not that, but when you feel up to it can you please write a choptop x reader where they go on a first date to a music store..?
I’m really nervous requesting this but I adore how you write, and if you don’t want to write this fic that’s ok!!
Holy I am so sorry for taking so long, I’m currently on vacation with family and have free time to finally get to this! I feel so bad. I hope you still enjoy this tho!
The bell above the door jingled as you stepped into the record store, and the smell of old vinyl, cardboard sleeves, and dust settled around you. Rows and rows of albums stretched across the room, with posters covering nearly every inch of the walls. Rock bands, country singers, punk groups, and faded advertisements from years ago all stared back.
You were still trying to figure out how you had agreed to this.
Chop Top had asked in the strangest way possible. He had wandered up beside you, grinning wide enough to show every uneven tooth in his mouth.
Another nod and then a long awkward silence filled the room.
Chop top just stares at you with wide eyes, it felt like he was looking into your soul. Then he broke the silence.
"We oughta go look at some music together."
That had apparently counted as asking someone on a date.
Now he shuffled through the entrance behind you, his shaggy blond wig sitting a little crooked over the metal plate in his scalp. His battered coat hung loose over his shoulders as he hummed loudly to himself, absently patting the edge of the wig into place.
"Man, smell that," he said with genuine excitement. "Records got a smell all their own. Better'n perfume."
You laughed before you could stop yourself.
His head snapped toward you.
He pointed at you dramatically.
"Love hearin’ it" he smiled wide
He wandered off immediately, already distracted by a display of cassette tapes.
He picked one up like he'd found buried treasure.
An old cassette tape that was slightly cracked and nothing to indicate what songs were on it.
The cashier looked over with mild concern as Chop Top held the cassette up to the light.
The cashier looked annoyed that Chop Top was there. Chop Top used to come here all the time when he was younger to avoid doing choirs and Drayton. He’d come in mix where records and cassettes went because he couldn’t bother putting them back and would ask him random questions.
Without missing a beat, Chop Top set it back down, of course in the wrong place and drifted toward the vinyl.
You followed him through the aisles.
He moved with nervous energy, never standing still for more than a few seconds. One moment he was flipping through albums at lightning speed. The next he was staring at an old concert poster.
"They don't make posters like this anymore."
"Nah. This one's got soul."
He paused and looked at the cashier who was dead staring at him with a serious face.
He absentmindedly tapped the metal plate beneath the edge of his wig before continuing down the aisle.
You noticed a few customers watching him from the next aisle over.
He leaned toward you and whispered
His grin spread even wider.
He sounded oddly pleased.
You continued browsing until you reached a stack of old rock albums.
"I've been looking for this one forever! This is [insert band name] most popular record!”
You carefully pulled the record free.
The sleeve was worn around the edges, but everything else looked perfect.
Chop Top leaned over your shoulder.
He stared at the album cover for a long moment.
"I don't know nothin' about 'em."
"You've seriously never listened to them?"
"I could play it for you sometime."
The grin stayed, but something softer slipped underneath it.
The moment disappeared almost immediately.
He darted toward another shelf.
He was holding up an album with one of the most ridiculous covers you'd ever seen.
"What do you think happened here?"
"They let somebody approve this."
You looked between the bizarre artwork and his completely serious expression.
"I... honestly don't know."
He shook his head dramatically.
"Should've been arrested."
He pointed at you a second time.
"I count important things."
A comfortable silence settled between you after that.
You wandered together through the aisles, showing each other albums you'd heard before and ones neither of you recognized. Chop Top kept making up elaborate stories based only on the cover art.
"This guy looks like he’s seen some crazy shit!"
"I mean I guess but he just looks surprised. Not like he’s seen stuff"
"Heh of course you’d think that! I know a face like that, it’s more than surprised!” He giggles softly and takes another look at the cover.
You couldn't argue with that kind of logic, his logic just doesn’t make sense most of the time.
Eventually you reached the bargain bin.
Chop Top dug through it with complete dedication.
"There's always gold in the cheap pile."
Five minutes later he triumphantly held up an album with water damage and a ripped sleeve.
"I don't think that's gold."
"I think it builds mold." You were right, the sleeve had bad discoloration and small patches of black and green.
"Same thing! It’ll fit perfectly with our home!”
He looked impossibly proud of himself.
The cashier rang up your records while Chop Top leaned against the counter, giving his wig another absentminded adjustment.
You both stood quietly waiting for your things to be rung up, Chop Top dozed off and was in his own little world. You were looking around to see if you could maybe spot anything else good to get last minute.
The cashier glanced at you then Chop Top then you again, then his face changed into gross confusion.
"Are…You two together?" the cashier asked casually.
His voice carried an unusual confidence.
The cashier nodded and handed over the bag, his face just grew even more confused, with a bit of shock.
"Enjoy the music I guess..”
"We will!” Chop Top quickly took the bag with your stuff in and quickly dragged you away.
Outside, the afternoon sun warmed the sidewalk.
You both stood there for a moment without moving.
Chop Top shifted on his feet, smoothing a stray lock of his wig back into place.
"...You wanna do this again sometime?"
"If that's what we're callin' it."
He stared at you for a second before breaking into another crooked grin.
"Heh…Knew this music thing was a good idea."
"You were right.” You gently bumped into him.
"I wouldn't push your luck."
He laughed, loud enough to turn a few heads on the street.
You started walking together, your new records tucked safely under one arm while Chop Top bounced alongside you, talking about songs he'd half remembered, concerts he'd probably exaggerated, and bands he'd swear were better before anybody had heard of them.
Somehow, against all logic, it had turned into a pretty good first date.
Again I deeply apologize for taking so long! I think this is such a cute idea for Chop Top X3
I will be answering the remaining requests at night since that’s when it’s the most peaceful! So again I apologize if I take a bit to fill your request.
