I adore this
*sighs*
You know, I've never been one of those annoying people that say Toy Story should've ended at 3. But after seeing this and 4, maybe I'd rather they would've ended at 3 and just stuck to shorts or something because holy SHIT are they some of the worst Pixar films behind Brave. Maybe this one is slightly worse than 4. Like, I don't usually think most Pixar films are bad. Hell, I thought the Good Dinosaur was just mid. Although, looking back on it, it may be just a pretty bad film but it was mostly just boring. Brave, Toy Story 4, and Toy Story 5, however were painful and frustrating to sit through. And before you ask, no I have not seen Cars 2. I have not seen Lightyear. And I have not seen the fucking Incredibles 2. But I have seen about 20ish Pixar films and I do have to say that I think Toy Story 5 is only slightly worse than The Good Dinosaur. Toy Story 4 might be on par with it, but I don't know.
So... I'm not going to say much about the first act of the film. I think besides setting up that pointless ass mass buzz lightyear subplot and Woody rescuing this fucking bitch who somehow got stuck up in the tree and is probably the drama king of Pixar movies. I actually like how it sets up. Bonnie is now 8 years old and is still playing with toys but she also has trouble making friends. So, she tries to say hi to the other kids and she's really shy but they end up either brushing her off or teasing her. I don't usually like bullying movies, but at least THIS makes sense because I can see preteens teasing other preteens for still playing with dolls and action figures.
She then gets this lilypad to help her make friends and this is where the movie gets a bit confusing to me. How is this lilypad able to connect with other lilypads or tablets from local kids? Like, I initially thought they were getting her the lilypad so that she can connect with people on the Internet which thank GOD that's not the case but how was this lilypad able to connect with other kids? You know, maybe they shouldn't have set this in the Summerrrr, maybe they should've set this during a school year unless Bonnie is homeschooled. Then, the parents would have to find some local group for Bonnie to get into.
So, Bonnie becomes addicted to her tablet, which understandable. Lilypad and Jessie start beefing with each other, also understandable.
Where the movie falls apart is when Jessie ends up back at her old owner's place because she just somehow happened to have her address on her coat for whatever reason. And okay, let's just go through it a little faster. I really don't feel like making a long ass post and analysis on this trash heap. I just want to get this review done and over with.
First of all, the film kinda suffers from some of the same issues as Toy Story 4. The toys are always active around humans and the humans don't even bat an eye to how a toy got there or if there's a ghost in the house or something because they got to make the movie work in their favor of course. So, Jessie decides to stow away in Bonnie's suitcase so that she can help her make friends. Which, idk about that, maybe you should let her make her own friends. Let her figure out her own shit and make her own mistakes, stop trying to solve her problems for her. If she comes home and it doesn't work out, then maybe you can do something.
Jessie, is just not as good as a protagonist as Woody. I don't inherently have a problem with her being the protagonist but she just seems like your basic average sassy bitch and it's just not as likeable as Woody. Like literally, in this movie, Jessie acts just like Woody did in the first movie. She gets easily jealous, she fights everyone, blames them as if THEY'RE the problem. Like, I understand her beef with Lily because she's cocky as all hell, but why is she beefing with these other motherfuckers all because they're technology? It's not their fault that they were made and a fucking kid plays with them like have some perspective, cowgirl. Also the movie really LOVES to shoehorn in the fact that she was Emily's owner. I mean, why else would they have like 70% of it take place at Emily's house, where she finds Emily's stuff buried under and such.
I don't even understand why they even needed to have Woody become a lost toy anyway. Like, basically, Jessie has to take on all Woody's roles because Woody decided to be a fucking idiot.
Also, the other toys don't get much of a time to shine. Woody and Buzz apparently have this subplot that they don't do much with. They apparently have a bit of bickering which basically regresses their character to the first movie. There's also romantic tension between Jessie and Buzz that the movie never hints at (I heard this was hinted at in other movies but I haven't seen the other movies in a long fucking time so why not hint at it more in this movie, hmm?). Not even Forky reacts to fucking getting replaced when he used to be Bonnie's FAVORITE TOY.
At first, I was okay with Blaze from Sonic the Hedgehog. I thought she was just going to be some fun minor character but no, they had to tie her into the plot by shoving it in your fucking FACE that she needs Bonnie to be her friend. By showing her struggling with the same thing Bonnie is struggling with, which is more stupider to me since it didn't seem like people didn't want to hang out with her like it is with Bonnie but because someone forgot that they were planning a playdate. And she suddenly cries like a baby back bitch like that person never wants to play with her. My problem with this is that they make it seem so easy and obvious just so that "Jessica" (why is this her full name anyway?) would have someone to play matchmaker on Bonnie with. Just having her basically being another fucking Bonnie. Whoop dee freaking doo. Here's a bright idea, movie, how about make her completely different from Bonnie? Like idk, make her more boring and uncreative or something. Or... I know! Make her obsessed with technology too. Make Jessie question if she's actually a good choice for Bonnie. Then have her get to know her and realize she's not all that bad of a person. Maybe this would also create more conflict than we got between her and Bonnie. Yeah, go Ivy and Bean on this shit or something SOMETHING to make it better. Like, we know that this bitch is going to end up being friends with this other bitch at least make it more subtle and unpredictable? Idk what I'm even saying... make the audience question whether they're going to get along.
I don't have much of a problem with Bonnie and I think she's the only somewhat well-written character in this fucking dumpster fire. Because she DID have an arc. She DID have motivation. My problem with her is mostly for the fact that the story LOOOVES to traumatize her like with these other characters. Like, she has this thing toward the end where she doesn't want to play with toys anymore because somehow her jerk of her "friends" find her toys at Blaze's house and decide to make fun of her for it. Like, this is just Ralph Breaks the Internet all over again only this is slightly more believable but then again, I don't think they need to shoehorn in a point about cyberbullying especially since Bonnie isn't even online talking to random strangers anyway. We already know that they're bullying Bonnie, we already know that Bonnie is struggling with technology addiction. Why give her another reason not to play with toys just to muddle the theme of the entire fucking film.
And then Lilypad. She was fine at first. I thought we were finally going to get a good Disney villain that is just evil and mean, but no. THEY HAD TO MAKE HER ANOTHER TRAGIC PIECE OF SHIT. I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THESE SYMPATHETIC AND TRAGIC ASS VILLAINS, DISNEY. She basically throws herself away because she feels that she has ruined Bonnie's life, even though it's really not that big of a deal. I mean the bitch is getting bullied. She has to learn not to take it to heart and just be herself. Like the bullying isn't so severe that she's suicidal or whatever so why is she throwing herself away? Just to add trauma on top of trauma for poor Bonnie. This movie may be the most depressing and emotionally draining Toy Story film yet. At least the other Toy Stories's emotional moments DID make sense and wasn't that plentiful.
You know, maybe we should start having Gen Z writing these technology movies instead of Gen X and millennials because they just don't know how to write a good technology is taking over the world story. It always comes back to the same ole "Put your phone down!" and "phones are unhealthy in general" they did it in Mitchells vs. the Machines and they did it here.
So overall, idk. I think I came out expecting more from this film. I think it just lacked the soul and depth of other Toy Story films. In all three Toy Story films, I at least came out feeling emotionally impacted and like I learned something from these films. With this and Toy Story 4, I didn't. They made me feel kinda... empty. Even if I did weirdly enough, like Toy Story 4 when it first came out, a second rewatch just makes me realize it's really not that good of a film. Maybe I'll make a review and an Aleta Rewrites of that film one day if I can fucking get off my lazy ass and do it.
Even more disappointing is that the trailers actually looked okay. I expected at least SOME emotional and deep message about how technology has consumed our lives and the impact it has on the toy industry but I didn't think it would be this sad like hot damn. I mean most of the movie takes place in Emily's house just to manipulate you emotionally but I just felt pretty much nothing. Characters are constantly getting traumatized in different ways. We have a sad villain in there and everything.
Jessie is pretty much Woody 2.0 and makes me just miss Woody. Blaze is basically Bonnie 2.0. Either these characters just don't feel like their own characters or they're not giving much of a time to shine like the other toys with BONNIE being the only one with an interesting arc going on.
I give Toy Story 5 4.0 bells out of 10.
Also, they're apparently making a 6th one?!?!
Here's how I would've rewritten the story in an Aleta Rewrites version.
First of all, we do not need all these Buzz Lightyears. They serve no purpose and they just convolute the plot. This ain't no Love, Actually or some shit. We already have three subplots going on, for a simple road trip movie, we could've just used two and that's it. We don't need the whole stow away scene and Jessie somehow having Emily's address on her coat bringing her to what ends up being a major point in the plot. I would have Bonnie come home depressed because the playdate or group or school didn't turn out too well. And THEN, Jessie and the gang decide they need to find someone to pair Bonnie up with. So, THEN they decide to stow away in her backpack, her bag or whatever and at whatever place they go THAT'S where they meet Blaze and all the other kids. And they try to analyze and figure out which kid would be good for Bonnie. But oh, that kid seems mean. Or that kid seems too aloof. Those kids are so wrapped up in technology. Blaze is the kid they eventually find out would be good for Bonnie but at first, she seems very boring and uncreative and not interested in toys. Then, maybe they see that she struggles with boredom at recess or gym class or something or coming up with a story or drawing and that's where Jessie thinks "Okay, maybe Bonnie can help with that." Bonnie initially doesn't get along with Blaze, but then she realizes maybe she can do more fun things with her. So, she gets out her toys and starts playing with them, imagining scenarios and all that. This gets Blaze to start playing with them too. At first, she struggles with what kind of scene to come up with, but Bonnie gives her ideas. Then, she starts playing along with it. Maybe coming up with her own ideas. This creates a shared bond for them as they learn to love toys again.
I...I don't know. My brain is too fried to write a whole plot on this fucking piece of shit nor do I even care. I have better things to worry about than dwell on a movie that makes me miserable.
listen to me. this is my final message to you. when you are at your lowest a fictional guy will come to you and when that happens you must start putting them in situations. this is the meaning of life.
literally what I’m doing every day
Why Olivia Rodrigo is the biggest bitch in the music industry
Hello, since reddit rejected me, I'm going to rant here about how shitty Olivia Rodrigo is as a person and a singer.
Yes I'm going to be harsh and piss off a lot of Olivia fans but I'm sorry this bitch just really annoys me. I'm sure she has a good heart judging from her interviews and she's definitely no Kanye or Azealia Banks or whatever but I don't see how she's the angel everyone makes her out to be and I'm going to judge her as an artist.
Most of her songs on her Sour album and even some of her newer songs are about how "toxic" her ex was and how he made her feel bad because he's happy with some other girl or some shit. Or just angry or crying about some other shit like not having a teenage dream or girls being prettier than she is. Like this bitch needs to shut tf up. Nobody cares about your dumbass teenage angst diary.
Even artists who write more emotional songs like Keyshia Cole, Halysey, Billie Eillish, Lorde, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Ray, Taylor Swift aren't usually that whiny.
Also I just don't feel like she's really grown as much musically or emotionally.
She whines about how her ex should've loved her less so that letting go wouldn't hurt as much. Or calling songs stupid because they quote unquote don't show love enough. Or about some girl quote unquote getting in the way of her. Or about how her partner doesn't give her needy ass enough attention (similar to I can't Wait to fall in love again).
I get that some people never grow out of their teenage angst but doggone man. At least show SOME perspective taking and respect for your ex/current boyfriends? Don't just write songs humiliating them just because they accidentally hurt your little feelings when they may not even deserve it (idk the lyrics are usually vague).
Also idk they just sound repetitive. Like she's mostly just singing about bad breakups and toxic relationships and rarely sings about anything else. Even in her newest album most of her songs are about how good a relationship feels and how "toxic" an ex is and how she learns to accept letting go of the relationship just like Sour. At least the other artists usually are more versatile. Even Keyshia Cole who mostly sings about betrayals and breakups have some freshness in them? Like how she sings about how a friend betrayed her by stealing her boyfriend from her, how she should've cheated after being accused of cheating, how her partner doesn't give her love because he's too wrapped up in another partner, how prideful she is after leaving her partner, how she's falling out of love with her toxic partner, remembering a bad relationship. I would say Guts however is the most versatile and maybe self-aware album but even she has some whiny selfish ass songs in there like Love is Embarrassing, Lacy and Get Him Back that remind me of her Sour album.
Say what you want about Jojo Siwa's edgy era, but at least she grew more than Olivia has.
Also some more rants. Why TF are you crying in the bathroom of your house when you have your own room? How could you even cry yourself to sleep in the bathroom? That must be uncomfortable as hell. And no one worried about you?
She cries in pillows like this stupid ass bitch that I hate down here.
Also nobody cares about how or where tf you crying fucking "with my head in my hands I sit in cryyyyyyyy" ass
She acts more like a Scorpio or Cancer than a Pisces because Pisces are usually more chill.
Aren't Asians supposed to be more reserved in their messy emotions and how they interact with others? Why is she acting more like her white American heritage?
is there anything youd change in cwacom media like the film or show????
There’s a lot actually!
I would tone down the amount of fat jokes in the first film. I might just be woke but two characters’ jokes are almost entirely around them being fat and I don’t like that. Just a personal thing.
I would want the second film to be more emotional rather than just an hour and a half of food puns. Allow characters to feel and express things without it being a joke.
For the series I would rewrite it entirely to be set after 2. There was absolutely no reason for them to set it before 1. They did it so Sam and Flint could be younger and appeal to young audiences but.,,.the films had the same audience. So. Why do that.
I could go further in depth but these are the first things that come to mind! Thank you for your ask!!
I thought you said fart jokes for a sec lol 😂
For 2, I really wish they gave the side characters more depth and things to do and make the environmental message deeper. Flint also gets betrayed by his idol and the film kinda just brushes that off. Also I kinda side eye the fact that he just quickly got over his trauma of being humiliated by all his peers on NATIONAL TELEVISION. So I can see why you might think it should've been more emotional. But tbh the first film didn't have emotional moments lasting too long either.
Maybe just the fan of me and the maternal side of me but I always wanted to see what Flint's younger years was like. How did he survive being friendless and sheltered throughout his adolescence and college years when friends are supposed to be more important than ever? Was he bullied and ostracized in college? What would that look like? It's a shame they had to add Sam in there and dumb it down so much for kids.
I don't see where they could go from 2 to be honest though I would love to see a short film where Sam and Flint had a kid I guess. That would be cute.
Why Elemental's Teaser Looked Better Than Not Alone
So, Illuminaton just dropped a teaser for their recently announced film, Not Alone. When I saw the poster on bluesky, I didn't think much of it. I read the plot and still didn't really care. So the title, the poster, and the story all did not get me. I didn't have high hopes for this film. I thought it would be another Migration at best.
But then, they dropped the teaser and omg it looks terrible.
First off, the character designs are still the same exact style they made for Despicable Me. The animation and designs are overly cartoony, which I don't think fits the vibe this movie seems to be going for. Like the movie seems to be more of a gentle slice of life scifi than their other more wacky films.
And then, we have this guy who is like working on this spaceship that runs on plants I guess. Okay... I don't know what that's all about but okay... And then he drops some screw or something. A girl picks it up. And he starts blushing. Okay, this is the thing that's really making me mad. I don't care about these characters or world right now, I know it's just a teaser but personally I've seen better and we're going to get into that. But WHY THE FUCK ARE WE MAKING ANOTHER MOVIE WHERE THIS GUY FALLS IN LOVE WITH A GIRL FOR DOING THE BARE MINIMUM OF BEING NICE TO HIM?!??! DON'T WE HAVE LIKE THOUSANDS OF MOVIES ABOUT THAT?!?! And then the guy of course turns out to be your average dork who shyly asks this girl out and then they fall in love for some reason, which makes this entire thing worse.
What's the point in this romance plot? Why is it in there? What does it mean for the movie? Is the movie going to do something interesting with it because I don't see anything interesting about this. All I see is some meet cute/love at first sight cliche which call me cynical and maybe I'm aro but I don't really believe in that stuff. I believe that someone could find another hot, but I don't think love really blossoms until you get to know the person. But like, it really boggles my mind how we can't have a man and a woman just be friends.
So, this teaser is already not interesting at all, I'm wondering who even asked for this. And then... ALIENS!
So already we get a boring slice of life random love story and now we get fucking ALIENS?!?! WTF IS THIS MOVIE EVEN ABOUT?!?! I know it's about a lot of things BUT HOLY SHIT.
Okay, so I read the plot of this movie on wikipedia and it's apparently about this couple building some weird ass rocket ship. They have problems in their relationship... typical. And they encounter these three aliens who they must hide out from some bad guy while also... trying to get home?
So, we already got a love story that looks like something out of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or some 2000s animated film mixed with E.T., Panic Room, and Room combined.
Look, I don't care much for E.T. I don't even care about The Room but DAMN this looks like someone asked AI to make an animated story with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ass romance mixed with an E.T./Panic Room story because WTF IS THIS?! WHY DO THEIR ASSES NEED TO GET HOME IF THEY ARE ALSO ON THE RUN FROM THIS GUY?????
Not to mention, just like some of Illumination's other messy films such as The Grinch, it looks like they popped out a film still going through its adolescent draft. I mean we got a romance and aliens? HOW DOES THAT MIX?!?! Or better yet WHY does it mix?!?!
So, all in all, this film represents all the problems with Illumination. They make cliched and messy films. And it being made by the same people that made later Despicable Me movies doesn't give me hope. Only thing is it's not some wacky Minions movie. A lot of people are excited about this film and I don't understand I'm sorry. Maybe it's because of the disaster of the Mario Galaxy movie. Maybe it's because it's an original film (though even people tend to dunk on original films so idk). Maybe they're just still stuck in that 12-15 year old mindset where they like any sappy romance even if it's Twilight. Okay maybe not Twilight but whatever. I don't know about you, but I would not care about this film even if I was a kid. I've never been much for romance but one of my favorite romance films since I was a kid was Howl's Moving Castle because the romance in there is based on accepting others' differences and flaws and it's just really sweet. And It Takes Two which IS a 90s film so you might see it more cheesy, but it's a really fun, comedic Parent Trap knock off featuring the Olsen Twins.
But anyway, we're not here to talk solely about Not Alone or romance films in general, we're talking about why Elemental's teaser, another romcom animated film which everyone dunked on for some reason was better in this film.
In Elemental's teaser, of course we don't get too much but we are introduced to this world of elements. Water guys sneezing water out of them. Plants growing out of their bodies. Clouds flying around the train. And of course, we get the meet cute moment where Ember meets up with Wade. Now, I don't remember much about this movie so I don't know if they had a meet cute/love at first sight cliche but right off the bat, the romance element (no pun intended) was more interesting. They didn't explicitly show the romance element but it was implied. A fire and water falling in love? That's rife for a disaster. Sure we have some dangerous love stories especially in the ya genre such as Everything Everything and Five Feet Apart but this is about adults, not immature, irresponsible dumbass teens so what kind of decisions would they make? Unfortunately, the movie doesn't lean into that that much from what I remember and the final movie DID have its issues but it was an overall cute film. And let me be clear, I think Pixar of the 2020s is as much of a mixed bag as Illumination is, maybe slightly better. I do think Illumination is slightly better than they were in the 2010s but they still haven't made a film as great as Despicable Me (which is one of my favorite childhood movies) yet.
So, that's pretty much it. I know I shouldn't judge a teaser because they don't usually show much, heck, Soul didn't really do much for me and that turned out to be a decent film. So there IS a chance they could drop a more interesting trailer revealing more. But personally, I'm more interested in Forgotten Island, which had a really interesting plot when I read it before the trailer dropped, Wildwood because despite my issues with Laika and not knowing much about it, I'm always down for their dark fantasy stop-motion films and there's usually SOME effort put into their films, and even the fucking Cat in the Hat which I'm not very hopeful about because it's being directed by the writer that wrote that fucking movie that I hate.
Idk personally, I think that Not Alone does have a chance to be Illumination's worst, yes even worse than Sing and Secret Life of Pets 2 judging by the entire writing. Or maybe it's Minions & Monsters because tbh I don't care about the minions anymore and I felt nothing watching their trailer. Also I think this could've been a movie that Illumination could've made a new IP out of.
Go ahead, make your OC the sibling/child/friend/whatever of an important canon character. Ship your OC with a canon character. Its fandom, its posts on social media/fanfic/fan art. Go for it, have fun, make up your own headcanons.
We're all just here to have fun.
Aleta from one of my books is the adoptive daughter of Spike Spiegel.
Okay Lord and Miller may need to jump on Illumination's ass too because WTF YOU MEAN THE NEW TEASER FOR NOT ALONE HAS THE DORKY THIN MALE GUY FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE NICE BITCH?!?! AND THERE'S SCIENCE IN IT AND SHIT!
Like nah, I want Lord and Miller to add this shit and Spies in Disguise to the list of movies they need to go Azealia Banks style on for copying off of one of their movies.
Even if this is a common trope though, I can already tell the film is going to be boring af. The title, the story, the characters, the romance, everything looks ai generated and lacking effort. Actually, scratch that, AI would make a better movie because at least they wouldn't copy off of another movie.
And fuck Walter Beckett, he's basically if someone asked AI to make a mashup of Vash from Trigun and Flint fucking Lockwood but just make it a little different.
the version of you from five years ago would be genuinely amazed by what you’ve handled since then. sit with that for a second
Goodnight Universe Review [Spoilers]
Let's start with some positives because despite the mostly cliched story, there are some unique mechanics here. I like the concept. Playing as a baby and a psychic baby as that is rare in games, the only other game I can think of is Beyond the Sleep or whatever it's called?
There are also some interesting ideas in this game. A game about people trying to contact aliens because they hate humans is an interesting concept to explore that Elio unfortunately failed at. There are a lot of twists in this game that I did not expect. And this is the part where I really wanted to see what happens in the game.
I like the fact that the game uses a webcam to detect your facial expressions. Blinking makes things in the game happen, smiling makes the baby react happily.
One thing that I thought was really cool about the baby's powers is his ability to read minds and in one of the minds, he reads Cleo's mind and it's just full of teenage angst complete with heavy metal, red, screaming, pulsing, and internal cursing and it's like "Damn, Cleo, I didn't know you like that." It's amazing to see this mostly poised character just full of pent up rage internally.
On a technical level, the game is amazing. I love how cinematic it is. I love how emotional the voice acting is. I love the atmosphere, it actually crept me out a few times. And I like some of the music.
But that's unfortunately where the positives end.
The character designs are really ugly. The baby looks kinda cute but the family just looks ugh. I guess they were trying to go for a Rugrats vibe or something? Because that's what they give me. But, at least Rugrats is more memorable even if the art style itself probably hasn't aged well. There's also a few times where the characters' heads or eyes move weirdly. Like for example, when Cleo is fighting with her mom about not watching the baby before she runs up to her room.
I'm going to rant about some of these characters because I think they need their own page.
Even if we do find out the baby was actually possessed by an alien, the baby still acts too smart and mature for a baby. Examples being he understands who the alien actually is and that he saved him, he talks at just 7 months and his first word isn't mama or dada, and he apparently already knows empathy, giving his Gilbert the Goat doll to the alien when mot babies would be selfish. Damn, this shit really is trying to be like Rugrats. Sorry, Goodnight Universe, the Rugrats/Family Guy era has already ended 20 years ago. The alien/Isaac even internally calls his father "big sad head" Like goddamn, why is this whole ass family so rude? I thought this was supposed to be a wholesome game about a family dealing with the fact that the baby brother has psychic powers?
Cleo who is basically great value Futaba does jack for the story that the dad couldn't do. And is in there mostly to just be an annoying retarded piece of shit. She somehow knows that Aio tech is evil because we can't have surprises in a story. She is super smart with technology yet she smokes weed with some guy? Lol even the parents call that out. If the dad is super smart with technology, why can't we have the dad replace Cleo's role? Why do we need some stupid bitch ass teenager in the story who is unfortunately not much different from the other majority of cliched sassy, retarded teenagers in stories besides she's super smart? FUTABA ALREADY DOES THAT AND SHE'S BASICALLY FUTABA IF SHE WASN'T TRAUMATIZED. Hell, the dad is even out of commission for most of the second half of the story like WHERE TF WAS HE? Or just make Cleo younger like a child around 9-12 or something who just has funny, sassy lines or something I mean she's not going to college, dislikes boys and doesn't go through the typical young adult coming of age/finding yourself arc so why make her a teenager?
Also, can we please stop having seniors in high school or fresh out of high school always being 17? Like, I know 18 ain't much different but it's so tiresome and it assumes the characters' birthdays are almost always in the summer/fall. Mitchells vs. the Machines and Toy Story 3 also tried to go around this when it ESPECIALLY doesn't make sense there because the characters are on their way to college. I mean, if we go by zodiac signs, Cleo acts like an Aquarius and Katie and Andy act like Sagittariuses so mmhmmhmmhmm.
Now I don't know if this is because of the gameplay I watched but Simon is a controlling asshole who for whatever reason PRESSURES his daughter to go to MIT even if she doesn't want to. Like, am I watching a chinese/indian family or some shit? What western family tells their own child what kind of dreams they should have? If this was supposed to take place in like the 1950s or some shit, maybe I could see this but this is 2026 nobody does that anymore. But hey, Cleo wants to stay with her family so maybe this really is a conservative asian family or 1920s american family or some shit. Or Cleo has autism? Possible too. But that would be cliched because she would have savant syndrome so.
Rebecca is the only person in this family who actually seems okay besides a few things like threatening to kill the alien who clearly saved her ass which the dad eventually agrees with too. Damn this family is just full of hypocrites and no redemption arcs.
Unfortunately the guy I saw playing this wanted to go back to his family but I'd rather die personally because this entire family sucks.
It's actually crazy how I like some of the villains better than the "heroes" in this story because they're actually more refreshing and I can get what they're going for in this story. They're fucked up versions of Elio, THAT'S REFRESHING.
The game has too much going on. When I went in, I thought it was going to be a simple game about a baby with psychic powers but it feels like it's trying to be like The Incredibles too much or something? Like we have the classic marital issues going on, the rebellious cynical teenage daughter with a bitchy attitude, the psychic super smart baby, you might as well just have the rambunctious son added in there too. Miscommunication issues between everyone also which even one of he characters acknowledges but is also a hypocrite because she apparenty hates boys but invites some boy at her house. Also, there's generational trauma, I'm sick of generational trauma stories, can we stop making generational trauma stories please and thank you? Oh, and the grandpa dies because of course we got to have some loved one die in a story at the beginning, always. Except nobody really acknowledges his death because it doesn't have a point. Like, just so much cliched shit in this fucking game.
The message I'm also mixed about. Apparently it's supposed to talk about how humans are beautiful despite their flaws but the reality is, some humans should go die. Like, I get and respect what they are going for here but I just can't care because most of these characters are fucking cliched, unrealistic and there's like practically no character development.
It's confusing to me what time period this game takes place in. Because I remember someone talking about 2025 early in the game but in one scene, Cleo says she has an AIM. So, when is this shit supposed to take place? I'm guessing the 2010s?
I give Goodnight Universe 5.9 bells out of 10.
I'm thinking Before Your Eyes is a better game so I will see what that game is about eventually
liking a character from a thing you don’t like
No it does not, stupid bitch.
the photo might be me, but I was watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and why does every single female character have the same build? All the men vary in height, weight, NOSES but all the women are basically the same base with different hair and colors. They're fine with stretching the realism in a cartoony way with the men but all the women are copy and pastes of each other? It's like women aren't allowed to be not conventionally attractive in any way. (Correct me if I'm wrong because I only watched like 30 minutes)
I do find it weird how the guys look cartoony but the girls look normal?
You know what would be tight guys? If that Mitchells vs. the Machines sequel ends up being a movie about a villain trying to replace everything and everyone with AI and the Mitchells go up against it. Now THAT would be cool! Although, that title has me worried this is just going to be another Us parody.
Ngl I'm disappointed. When I read the plot I was initially thinking Hexed could be about some weird/neurodivergent kid having magical powers connected to their weirdness/neurodivergence and they get sent to this world with other weird/neurodivergent kids and I guess because they need to recruit some people to go on an adventure or fight some monsters with their powers? And then it turns out one of the parents are weird/neurodivergent too? Now THAT would've been interesting. Not this Owl House, Ruby Gillman, Frozen ass shit.
Also can we PLEASE stop making every school movie about bullying? Like I don't think bullying is that bad in high school? Maybe to some people but fr why do people have beef with this girl? She's just a regular girl minding her business trying to control her powers. I could understand this if they were younger but then again, disney rarely makes their protagonists younger than like 15 and we like almost NEVER get a kid younger than like 10 I think I seen Rachel Reviews talk about it? Like we could've had her a little ass kid especially if they went with my idea.
Also can't we get a bullying movie set in college for once? That would be interesting!!
How the I am not okay with this netflix series changes from the comic.

TW AHEAD: MENTIONS OF ABUSE/ASSAULT AND SUICIDE
Since the cancellation of IANOWT, the show ended after the first seasons cliff hanger.
Lets start of with the characters:
Sydney Novak
The main difference from show sydney and comic Sydney would be her appearance, but disregarding that Comic syd also has a more rude and less sensitive personality
Shes also heavily implied to be bisexual (instead of lesbian like in the show) noting that she "can get off to both guys and girls" she is also shown having sex with both stan and a girl named Ryan (whom ill talk about later)
Shes also had her "powers" all her life in the comic, and not really regarding it as big of a problem until she looses control.
Her backstory is also different, as in the show her father commited suicide but in the comic its shown that she kills him with help of telekinesis
Dina (and bradley)
(again, tw for abuse/assualt)
Dina still plays the role as Sydneys best friend/love interest. however in the comic shes a senior instead of a freshman.
She doesnt play as big of a role, while the kiss scene happens its in a different context.
Syd comforts dina after Bradley is implied to have abused and or/ assaulted her.
Its never brought up, they do however remain friends.
Her relationship with Bradley is abusive, and its unclear for how long theyve been dating.
She ends up getting pregnant by bradley and he assaults/beats her once again wich sends her to the hospital (wich is what sends Sydney to kill brad in the first place)
Bradleys death is also different, as the prom never happens in the comic. Sydney comes across Brad and his friend at a store after visiting Dina, she then uses her powers to make Brad have a brain aneurysm
Stanley Barber
Stan doesnt actually play as big of a role in the comic (compared to his appearance in the show)
Hes Sydneys childhood friend and neighbor, he also hooks her up with weed (wich appears to be the only thing to calm her down)
She has sex with him as a thank you. Other than that, he isnt relevant.
Ryan
Ryan doesnt make an appearance in the show, but plays a big role in the comic.
shes a gas station clerk who Sydney gets romantically involved with.
However, while they are having sex Sydney looses control of her powera and accidentally hurts Ryan, she leaves.
afterward Syd attends Bradleys funeral she goes to Ryans house.
Ryan, being mad about being ghosted kicks Sydney out.
The ending
the comic end is significantly darker.
(tw for suicide)
While the show ends with sydney running from the prom after killing bradley, the comic ends with sydneys suicide.
(As the prom never happens in the comic)
The comic ends on a melancholy note, never getting to know why sydney had powers.
final notes
The comic and show are extremely different, as the comic is more reality based and uneventful.
But i think theyre both good media, just in different ways.
Daaaaamn man. I was hoping comic Syd would at least be a little nicer than show Syd but if she's more ruder AND LESS FUCKING SENSITIVE than even fucking SHOW SYD OHHHHH HO HO HO HO HO HO HO
