"Thank you" Sarah got up, finding a clean set of clothes that she put on in a hurry. When she was dressed again she started talking "Well... I'm not sure where to start, I knew that I wanted to act when I was pretty young, and when I was eleven I was the best girl in the local theater group, it was my passion, and we had this really good teacher."

"I don't have ice, but I think there's some frozen peas in the tiny freezer part of the fridge" Sarah said, biting her lip. "I'd get it for you, but uh" she made a gesture to herself. "I'm not dressed." 

"He's not my boyfriend, he- ...Look, I'll tell you, but I need you to promise not to tell anyone else okay? It's bad and you might want to, but nobody can know, okay? Please just promise me this one thing. I won't ask for anything else, just please Shane."

Sarah pulled the blanket tighter around herself. He didn't seem too mad, but maybe he was just worried and would be angry later. 

"No, he didn't hurt me, he never does." she said, not daring to look Shane in the eyes. "I'm so sorry, he's never been violent before. I didn't think- I'm so so sorry, are you alright?"

Stupid. Stupid, stupid Sarah. What kind of question was that? Of course he wasn't alright. She had done the worst thing a girlfriend could possibly do. And she was asking if he was alright. 

"I just mean- do you need a doctor?" she sighed and made herself look up at Shane. She didn't feel like she deserved to even look at him. 

"I guess I should explain some things for you before you leave me and never talk to me again?"

Sarah was quiet, trying to comprehend what was happening, Shane was fighting. The man had attacked him, and Shane had to defend himself and it was all her fault. She had to do something. 

"Stop" she said, first too low for anyone but her to hear, then again, a bit louder. "Stop hitting my boyfriend, please." her voice was breaking and she didn't sound half as determined as she wanted, but they had to stop. 

"I'll scream. I'll scream and I'm a minor and people will know and you'll get in trouble." It occurred to her as she spoke that she had never spoken up against him before, she'd made excuses, but she had never stood up for herself.

Somehow it worked. Sort of. The man hit Shane once again before he grabbed his trenchcoat and his clothes and made his way past Shane. Before he left he put the coat on, which was a good thing. Finally she was gone. 

Sarah's eyes returned to Shane. She swallowed thickly and then looked down, halfway expecting him to storm out.

Sarah couldn't reply, she had no idea how she could explain this to Shane. When Shane started yelling the man did get of her and she grabbed a blanket, using it to cover herself. This could not be happening. Shane looked so hurt and angry and Sarah felt awful about it. This was her fault. She hurt him. He was the best thing in her life and she ruined it. God she was awful. 

Tears were running down her face as she watched the scene play out. Please just leave she thought, hoping that this could end and she could just apologize to Shane and... No, there was no way he could forgive this. She was losing him, things had been going too well, of course it had to end in disaster. 

He wasn't leaving. He just stood there, looking at Shane. Oh no, he wasn't going to just leave. Leave, she wanted to say. She wanted to tell the man to leave, but she was just frozen and crying and not doing a thing. Not even when the man lifted his hand and hit Shane, in the face.

Sarah hadn't been happy about him coming to New York, but she had thought she'd solved the issue. I'm afraid I can't see you, it's a really busy week. Yes I know I wasn't home for Christmas, I'm sorry. No, I can't come to your hotel, I would get lost in the city. But no, of course things couldn't go smoothly for her. He was coming over, to her dorm room. 

I'm sorry, I have to cancel tonight. I'm not feeling well. 

She hated lying to Shane and she felt awful for it, but she couldn't tell him about this. It was over, she had decided to end this, this would have to be the last time. Oh for heaven's sake, this should not be happening. 

It shouldn't, but there she was, with his hands all over her body, in her bed. He was whispering in her ear, and his breath against her skin made her feel sick, after all this time she still felt disgusted by it, even more so now than before. It would end though, soon it would be over and she would tell him it couldn't continue. That she wouldn't let it, even if it scared her to do so. 

Then the door opened, and for the first time ever she moved to try to push him off her. Only one person came into her dorm without knocking, and only because she'd told him he didn't need to. 

Oh God, Shane. Shane was here.
