Jane Yolen,
You have created such vast worlds of adventure, reflection, and love. From barely being able to talk to becoming a writer and reader and speaker, I thank you. Your children’s books shaped many generations and will continue to do so. Your literature meant for older audiences sets a standard among fantasy writing, and hopefully authors to come will honor you. I thank you for letting me escape into your worlds, but also being inspired to live fully in my own world.
Rest in peace.
Modern Disney Moodboards // Belle
Here's where she meets Prince Charming, but she won't discover that it's him till chapter three.
I read at night, until three or four in the morning. The darkness around you adds greatly to the absolute passion that develops between you and the book.

What's a book written by a woman that changed your life or that you consider a classic? Any genre, any language.
US Book ban on LGBTQIA books
The nationwide book ban bill, HR 7661, has progressed out of committee and into the House. Here's what you need to know to take action.
At least hit the shiny repost button if you're going to do nothing else. This should not stand.
Stop the bill dead in its tracks. LGBTQIA people have a right to be represented in books.
Everyone always behaves as if Rochester kept his wife in the attic as a sort of fun patriarchal thing that he did on whimsy.
1) He was tricked into marrying her. Her family knew about her mental instability and said nothing about it.
2) Rochester never harms Bertha. Even when she attacks others, even when she sets his bed on fire, even when the entire home is burning, he still attempts to bring her to safety. He never sought vengeance.
3) He could not resign to live with himself if he gave her to an asylum. What he could give her at home was better than they had in asylums.
This whole female rage, Rochester abused Bertha, that’s not in the source material. That’s a published fanfic. You know who had female rage? Jane.
You all are saying Rochester is the villain when there is Mrs. Reed? The aunt who hated an orphan to the point that she lied and said Jane was dead when another relative wanted to raise Jane, wanted to love and take care of her? The woman who abused her? Left her in poverty? Loathed Jane (who forgave her, by the way) to her dying breath? This is who we’re ignoring in favor of a man who kept both a wife who was a danger to everyone in the household, and an illegitimate child who he doesn’t even believes is his? Rochester is no angel, but if you’re going to condemn him, condemn him for what he actually does.
Oh wait. The novel already does that. And look at that, he is forgiven and gets redemption too.
ever since I read jane eyre l, I don't fear the cold, dark and wet winter months anymore. How could I when there's candle light and hot tea and all this melancholy
Why do they even make apps for ADHD. You want me to use my 24/7 handheld immediate distraction device? To manage my 'gets distracted too easily' disorder? Ooooh we developed the perfect tool for managing your anemia. Its hosted in Dracula's castle. 👍
2025 Reading Wrap Up!
Happy 2026!
so much of the wank around jane eyre is due to people not understanding how jane, who seems like a reasonably intelligent and sensible woman, could possibly be in love with and then marry someone like rochester while being in her right mind/not being coerced into it and i honestly feel like this is just proving the entire point of the novel.
the entire book is about jane gaining agency and learning to pursue life on HER terms, no matter whether or not her choices and motivations make sense to anyone else. jane is, above all else, a fierce individualist, and she frankly doesn't give a fuck if anyone (even the reader) understands her choices. you might hate her man but she's not going to care at all.
this becomes more obvious if you read villette as the protagonist of that novel (lucy snowe) is even MORE closed off and confrontational with the reader than jane is and is significantly less forthcoming about her feelings.
basically, i don't think you're supposed to understand why exactly jane loves rochester because i don't think jane really understands herself and/or she doesn't feel responsible for explaining it to you. she just feels it and that's enough for her, and you either get that or you don't.
"The problem is people don't read classics anymore"
No I think the problem is people don't read WIDELY. The ONLY ya and/or fantasy romance crowd is just as insufferable as the ONLY classics crowd or the ONLY litfic crowd or the ONLY nonfiction crowd and vice versa.
You gotta get some variety in there my guys
He looks at her like he just realized what love is.
For Beauty and the Beast week day 4 - Monkey! I hope this makes sense for the prompt—the quote, and Adam & Belle's relationship as a whole, just really reminded me of the theme of curiosity that could be associated with monkeys! @beauty-beast-week
Do you own multiple copies of the same book? What's the largest number of copies you have of any one book?
I don't own any books
I only own 1 copy of all the books I own
I own 2 copies of a book
I own 3–4 copies of a book
I own 5–7 copies of a book
I own 8–10 copies of a book
I own 11+ copies of a book
I'm not sure/it's complicated
Count reprints, later editions of the same book, etc. If you have a copy that includes multiple books in one volume, you can count that, but do not count sequels/etc on their own. You can count ebooks and audiobooks if you possess the files in a permanent way (borrowed and streamed don't count).

After finishing my first Emily Henry novel, Book Lovers, five stars, and then trying to find another romance to read I've discovered what my vibe is.
Super intense type A woman who's incredibly driven and she finds a guy not intimidated by that at all.
