Giving my last #neuroanatomy class on Tuesday ! I will finally be able to concentrate on my upcoming exam without having to prepare classes anymore š
Iāve been through a lot of hard stuff since September and honestly I didnāt think I could make it till the end. But here I am, almost finishing my semester and more tired than ever but I least Iām doing the best I can.
By writing this I want to tell you that you are all able to cope with a lot more than you think, so donāt put yourself down when youāre having bad days and trust the process, youāll be amazed by all the things you can achieve!
Hey guys. Iām glad to be finally posting my āmental breakdown survival guideā. As you know I struggle a lot with mental health, and so I have been through a lot of breakdowns. So many that I actually dropped out of university after 3 weeks in 2016 and had to take the whole year off. Because of this, Iāve made it my mission to help others with mental health issues as much as I can, so you donāt have to go through what Iāve been through.
Anyway, here is my guide. I tried to keep it general, and actually useful. If you have any questions or additions please feel free to add them.
And as ever, if you want to talk to me about studying with mental illness or want to see a post on a specific topic, please feel free to message me.
still feeling very under the weather (and possibly developing a cough, because the whole mess of symptoms iāve been dealing with over the last few days just werenāt enough, obviously) but feeling real tired of feeling tired! things iāve done so far today:
tidied the bedroom
washed my bedding
sorted laundry
tidied the kitchen
swept the apartment
cleaned my desk, which was threatening to just swallow itself in books and papers
answered 4 student emails about essay feedback
reviewed notes to try and figure out what iām doing with an upcoming project
had four cups of tea :-)
about to do a bit of free-writing to brainstorm for this upcoming project and then i have more emails to send and lots of reading to do. trying to make up, a bit, for the utter lack of work done over the last couple of days! i needed the days off for recovery, and iām not giving myself shit about it because if youāre sick, youāre sick and your body is probably telling you to just chill for a hot minute, but this to-do list of mine is getting⦠out of hand. gotta get it under control!!
As a lot of you know, Iāve just graduated from my local community college. Attending there was no-doubt the best option for me, especially since it allowed me to get almost two years of college done before I graduated high school. Despite the reputation it often gets, Iām a huge fan of community colleges.
advantages of community college
First of all, itās much more affordable that traditional four-year schools
But you still get a high-quality education!
Quite a few of my teacher graduated from Ivy League schools, and all of them were really knowledgeable in their fields.Ā
Smaller class sizes = you get to know your teachers
You can live at home and stay close to friends, family, and the job you already have (plus no moving or cramped dorms!)
Youāre taking the same classes you would be at a university for way less, since the first two years are all general ed requirements wherever you go
what to know before you go
Itās not going to be a breeze. The classes will be just as hard (if not harder in some cases) as their university counterparts. Youāre getting a serious education, so youāll have to put in serious work.
It may be a little tougher to make friends, since unlike universities everyone goes home at the end of the day. That being said, itās totally possible! You just have to be intentional and reach out to people in your classes
Itās not full of slackers, like the stereotype says. In fact, itās pretty much the opposite. Most of my classmates were paying their own way through school, meaning that they actually wanted to be there and learn as much as they could. I met some of the most dedicated and hardworking people in my classes at cc.Ā
tips
Know your long-term plan as soon as possible. If youāll be transferring after, itās good to know if the classes youāre taking will transfer to where youāll be going.Ā
Related: meet with your advisor often. Even though it wasnāt required, I went in to see my advisor before every semester, just to make sure that I was still on track and that all the classes I was taking were beneficial.
Get to know your teachers. Iāve found that cc teachers genuinely care for their students, so itās super beneficial to get to know them in case you need help in that class or even in the future. Iāve had past teachers help me out with projects for other classes and write reference letters.Ā
Donāt just go to class and go home! Get involved in any way that you can, even if that just means studying in the library instead of your living room. Youāll get so much more out of your time there if you actually invest your time there ā get to know people around campus!
Take advantage of any resources they have! At my school there were career counselors, free tutors, loads of books/movies available at the library, an open gym, and a ton more. Not to mention all the discounts you can get with your student ID!
Join clubs, if theyāre available. Theyāll look good on future applications and youāll make great friends!
Look for other opportunities on campus ā I participated in several art shows and wrote for the literature and arts journal, and they were both really great experiences for me. Find things to be a part of, and you may be surprised to find a new interest!
Overall, community college is a really great option for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. Donāt let people tell you that youāre not just as smart and determined as university students if thatās where you decide to go! Go forth and totally kill it, my future community college students.Ā
PSA for everyone writing term research papers right now
Mendeley is the greatest program ever
I want to weep with joy every time I use it
Just click a button when you pull up an article and it will automatically save it to your library
And cite it for you
And you can use it on your mobile devices
And itās free
Just download it and you wonāt have so many urges to kill everyone in sight while writing a research paper
Thank you so much!
Guys, I cannot stress how amazing this program is.Ā
You can use it to highlight, write notes, mark up, etc. What I do is I highlight all the important jazz, use the comments to write notes on the document, and on the side bar, I write an annotated bib for it for future me. It save everything you write on it forever for you and you can put the articles in folders and organize it.
But thatās not the best part, the best part is that you can access your articles ANYWHERE. Literally anywhere. Forgot your laptop and at a public library? No worries! You can go to the Mendeley website and ACCESS ALL YOUR ARTICLES WITH YOUR NOTES ONLINE. You donāt even have to download the program to access it! It is a life saver and I suggest everyone in academia use it!

jul 10, 2017 did a spread (of sorts?) inspired by crush by yuna! i was going for monochrome but a little gold seeped in haha
09-05-18 Updating with a new content after ages, my bad. š Hello everyone! Here is my bujo for the month of May, spread from last week. Iāve been into multi-tasking these past few weeks, studying while re-watching the sequel of Harry Potter and yes, iām not so much into it (lol). Itās a shame for a 19-year-old like me to watch the whole story of HP and find it very amazing! Iām so amused with the story up to the character and cinematic! That is why my theme last week was inspired by the movie. :) Iāve been also planning to make another bujo like this but not right now coz finals week is approaching! I am currently studying Cell and Molecular Biology bec. weāll be having our exam there this coming friday, so yep. I just updated everyone and now have to go back to studying. Hoping for everyoneās success for today! :D wish me luck studyblogger! šš»
Single Tasking
Monotasking, also known as single-tasking, is the practice of dedicating oneself to a given task and minimizing potential interruptions until the task is completed or a significant period of time has elapsed.
a) eat breakfast without checking your phone or watching tv š³š§
b) simply observe when youāre in the car, on the bus, train or plane. (or if youāre like me riding your bike š“š»āāļø)
c) watch a movie start to finish without distractions (seriously the best šā¤ļø)
d) listen to an album all the way through
e) focus on the art of listening rather than talking
f) capture your To-do lists in a notebook rather than multi task
g) have a morning routine
h) divide your tasks into 20 minute intervals (send me asks if you wanna see my cleaning schedule!!)
i) de clutter your workspace / bedroom
j) detox from technology one day a week
k) check your emails / texts at a designated time of the day
l) slow down your evening with a night ritual

I hope this helps. Let me know what you try / know !!
Practicing self care is very important to not feel overwhelmed and stressed out all the time. Just taking 30-60 minutes a day dedicating to yourself and only yourself, could already make a big different for your mental health. It doesnāt have to be a big thing, it can be as small as stretching your body after coming home from a stressful day at work/school.Ā
Here are 25 other ways to practice self-care:
1. have a declutter session
2. watch your favourite movie / tv show
3. go for a run or a long walk
4.do something that you have been putting off for a while
5. call someone you love
6. take a nap
7. read a good book
8. have lunch with a friend
9. make a playlist of your favourite song at the moment
10. turn your phone off
11. take a bath or shower
12. burn your favourite scented candle
13. have a to do list ready in the morning
14. turn your phone off
15. colour or write in a journal
16. bake something
17. exercise
18. visit your favourite coffee shop
19. take a 10-minute break from what you are doing
20. find a fun DIY-project on Pinterest and do it
21. listen to a podcast
22. play with a pet
23. plan a full evening of rest (only reading, watching a movie, napping, no obligations)
24. have a mini-pamper session
25. change your whole outfit
I hope youāll enjoy spending time just to improve your mental health!
xoxo

Do you ever get frustrated with someone because their understanding of Hogwarts houses is not as nuanced as yours
131 | Finally got my desk about where I want it. I think I bought legitimately everything except the plants at Target. I love clutter. I am the anti-Marie Kondo.
recover from āburnoutā in five steps
1. reward yourself for working so hard. take a long bath with your favourite bath bomb, take time to cook your favourite meal, paint your nails. recognise that you worked hard and it was tough and that you deserve time for yourself
2. catch up on sleep. nothing makes studying harder than being exhausted. clear your schedule and have a lie in. even if you donāt sleep late, stay in bed and enjoy a guilt-free lazy morning
3. do something fun. invite your friends over for a movie night, take your dog for a walk. remind yourself that there is more to life than textbooks and notes
4. make a plan. start getting ready to get back into study mode. make a todo list, a study schedule, and a list of your deadlines
5. organise your space. declutter your desk so you have a clean space to be productive in. tidy desk, tidy mind
start again.
