Alex Jones explained for non USAmericans:
Alex Jones is an infamous radio conspiracy theorist who has been a persistent element of American politics for the last 30 years. His radio show, Infowars, uses the tagline "tomorrow's news today" as Alex claims his information comes from a pantheon of secret sources within the nonexistent shadow government.
Infowars got it's big break in the early 2000s with 9/11. Alex claims to have predicted the attack beforehand, even though Osama Bin Laden had been all but outright stating his desire to commit a terrorist attack for months if not years beforehand. Alex also claimed that the UN was behind 9/11, claiming that it was done to destabilize the dollar.
Throughout the years, Alex has been a dangerous radicalizing voice in America. He has claimed that every mass tragedy like a terrorist attack or school shooting has been a false flag, generally stating that the tragedy was engineered by the government to strip Americans of their gun rights. Recent court documents reveal that at its peak, Infowars was making 800,000$ profits a day.
He has been sued before, but has generally managed to skirt by on settlements and technicalities.
In 2012, a 20 year old named Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people in the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Alex claimed that no children died, and that the grieving parents and community members were actually paid actors. He has said equally reprehensible shit in the past, and nothing has come of it. But this time, Alex didn't stop there. He has been harassing the victims for nearly eight years now, claiming that the parents were agents of the deep state, even going so far as to dox the public addresses of the parents of the victims, and even send "reporters" (read, dangerous armed white supremacists) to their houses. The entire time he was doing this, he was running commercials for his brand of vitamin supplements.
The victims of his harassment are currently suing Alex for defamation. The trial is not going well for Alex. Alex is currently on lawyer 12. Alex's lawyers have proved themselves to be so incompetent, so unprepared, so blatantly disrespectful to the American legal system, that the judge has handed down what's called a "default judgement". Which essentially means "the court has decided that even if you are actually innocent, the court will legally be considering you guilty because of your rampant disrespect for the legal process." A default judgement was described by one of the lawyers as "approximately as rare as a football game being called on account of unicorns."
The firm that took the case for the victims side is doing so for free. They have extensively studied Alex and his history, and are currently in the middle of what could be described as a surgical disassembly.
On August 3rd, Alex's lawyer turned over nearly 2 years of Alex's phone records. These texts contain DEEPLY incriminating evidence. The victims lawyers asked Alex's lawyer "hey, we can use these right? Like these are admissible?" And either out of ignorance, incompetence, or potentially even intentionally, Alex's lawyer said yes.
It doesn't stop there.
Alex was instrumental to the January 6th coup attempt that happened here recently. One of the victims lawyers was heard on a hot mic saying that they intended to turn the evidence over to law enforcement, heavily implying that Alex may have implicated himself in some nigh-treasonous crime.
God forbid we give 3% less to the military and save humankind.
i hate applying for jobs because the employers are always like: do you enjoy working in a stressful environment???? do you strive for unobtainable standards of perfection???? are you good at dealing with people that make you feel extremely uncomfortable??? do you mind losing real hours of your life in order to make minimum wage?? are you a fan of capitalism??? do you love selling your soul just so you can afford to live???
Actors of color often get typecast. Two photographers asked them to depict their dream roles instead.
How Hollywood Sees Me … And How I Want to Be Seen
Oh my god I love this. This is so beautiful and wonderful
The shelter where I volunteer got some new hissy babies and we were making progress with socialization yesterday.
Play video, sound on.
There was this old lady who lived across the street and cats would just appear at her house. They’d never really be seen again, and she had a cat of her own with a collar and all who never really left the house but would spend most of the day by the bay window. But the rest were just a revolving door of random cats. Which naturally meant kittens would pop up too.
So one time when I was doing my high school volunteer hours at this animal shelter, she showed up and said she had some kittens to drop off and some to pick up. I thought it was weird but I figured she fostered them and so I assumed she fostered cats and that explained the amount of random cats I’d see at her place (turns out she’d lure strays in for spaying/neutering and then take them to shelters around the area for socializing and ideally adoption).
So she dropped off three extremely socialized and friendly kittens that I guess she had picked up 2 days prior. And then grabbed a kennel thing with five feral-ass kittens one of the donors found near a dumpster.
I had seen them earlier but the day manager told me they had just gotten them the day before and they had not been socialized because they were waiting for “the expert”. And I guess that was this lady. So she puts on these thick black gloves and goes “Sweetheart can you hold this for me? I gotta prep the babies”, and I held the kennel still while this woman just 100% no fear sticks her hand in there and grabs a kitten that is NOT happy about it. She then grabbed it by the head gently, wrapped a tea towel or some type of cloth thing around it, and then laid it down to do something that was like equal parts origami fold and burrito roll?? Idek. Point is the kitten was PISSED. But it couldn’t move or anything because she wrapped it and secured the wrap with one of them big old timey baby pins. And she did it to the others as well. It didn’t even take her 5 minutes lmaooo. Then she put them back in the kennel and went home.
I asked the manager about it and he said “Oh yeah she’ll be here in 2 days to drop them off. She has a M E T H O D.” And just as he said she showed up two days later, with 5 perfectly friendly kittens in tow!
I didn’t ask because I assumed she was a witch and also I didn’t care, but I had mad respect for her 😂
I wish to meet this woman and also to learn from her so that I can do this magic
I have become known at my library as the dude who knows how to deal with computers. I’m not in IT, and I don’t know shit about hardware, but I’m pretty good at figuring out what is causing an error, or how to perform a task in a specific program.
I have also joked repeatedly that all I really need to do is stand near one of the student computers in the library and it’ll start working again. I’ve no idea why, but for some reason errors that happen repeatedly just go away whenever I come to look at the computer.
Last week, I helped a student who was having issues with his laptop. Multiple programs had frozen, but he hadn’t saved his paper, and luckily I was able to get it working long enough for him to save three straight days of work that he otherwise would’ve lost. It’s worth noting that I spent most of the time I was trying to fix it whispering, “C’mon, baby, work with me” at his computer, because… just because, okay. It’s what I do, it works, don’t question it.
Anyway, I was around late at work last night, waiting for my ride, when the student worker came back to my office and said there was a small group of students looking for me, and could I give them a hand even though I was off the clock?
Sure, why not.
I came out to find a group of six students, including the guy I helped last week, at a table clustered around one laptop. I rolled up, said, “Hey, what can I help you with?”, and the guy said, “Can you just hang out here for a second?”
Sure, my dude. I’m off the clock, I’m listening to a podcast, I can chill at a table with your group until my ride shows up, if you want.
So I spend some time flipping through my phone, only half paying attention, figuring they’re finishing something up and they’ll ask their question as soon as they’re done. But after a minute, the guy says, “It worked!” and there was a chorus of excitement from the rest of the group. They all thanked me, and excused themselves to go back to class.
Turns out they had a group presentation, and the laptop they were trying to present from had froze up on them. Not knowing what to do, this guy apparently told his group there was a computer wizard in the library, and that merely being in my presence might be enough to fix it. To be fair, he… was not wrong.
I just find it delightful that this has become such A Thing that students are now seeking me out. Not to ask a question, or get some help, but just to stand near their device and share my mythical computer-fixing aura. It’s like being a terribly benign cryptid.
You’re the Installation Wizard’s cousin
for the record, one of my patrons just called me “Mrs. Bill Gates” when he needed help with the computer so
