Kiyotaka’s body froze in shock, a sharp hiss sucked in through his teeth. He spun around, coming face to face with his grinning brother. Thankfully, Ishida knew when it was acceptable to play a prank, and it was harmless enough in itself. Though, Kiyotaka couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps he was lenient on him due to their relation with one another. Still he wouldn’t complain, after all having water dumped on his body shortly after drying off from a dunk in the school’s pool wasn’t so bad.“Did you find that humorous, Aniki? You know that I am not one for revenge, but I believe that two people can play at this game, don’t you?” And without a second thought, he bumped his brother backwards into the water, grinning widely while grabbing the nearest towel. “I can assure you that I am not as merciful as you’d like to think!”
his-aniki :
He’d done it again, often times when it came to Kiyotaka, Ishida’s more rowdy personality would come out. He would curse, and yell after dropping his proper demeanor. Ishida said he wasn’t a bother, yet it was hard not to feel that way when he was yelling like this. Maybe he’d become too dependent on him, on his companionship and reassurance that he was no different than the rest of their classmates. But he was different, anyone could see that–even his own twin–he was just too prideful to admit anything could possibly be wrong with his brother. “No, Aniki. The insinuation never once left your mouth, I suppose I am once again projecting what I believe onto you, and I apologize for that. Shall we move on from this conversation? I would hate to drag it out much longer, especially now that I have sufficiently talked it to death.” Getting worked up wouldn’t get them anywhere, though Kiyotaka could feel the pinpricks of tears gathering in his eyes once again. He was much too susceptible to crying. Perhaps it was something that ran in their family, or maybe he really did need to get a better grip on his emotions.
Already Kiyotaka was threatening to spill tears. In the aftermath of scenarios similar to this, Ishida often wondered why his brother still kept coming to him for companionship and reassurance if -- multiple times -- it resulting in him crying and feeling worse. As to why he pictured him to be a good sibling was beyond him. However, he wouldn't deny his brother to meet up with him if he truly wished to see him. It was odd to sort out.
“Yes, please!” Ishida barked, nearly cutting off his twin’s last words, relieved to get move on from the mess this conversation turned out to be.
“Is there... anythin’ else you wished to share with me?” He feared to bring up the note again, as it may end in the same conclusion as last time. It felt uneasy to coolly ask to converse more after a mild outburst -- especially when the other was one step away from weeping. “Or would ya rather leave? I don’t want to keep you from your studies, Aniki.”
“I'm not the one who's gonna get mad cow disease and go nuts, though you don't seem to have a brain to fry in the first place.”

his-aniki :
“I…” Kiyotaka began, stopping shortly after. Oh, so that was how it was after all. Of course, Ishida couldn’t be the solution to all of his problems. But he was there frequently. Through the good and–mostly–bad. He’d been a shoulder to lean on, someone to cry with then things had gone down the drain. Perhaps he’d become too comfortable talking about himself, about his concerns and problems. Just like everyone else, Ishida seemed to be pushing him away. Kiyotaka couldn’t help but wonder if Mondo too would take that route eventually, once he realized how much of a burden he truly was. “Yes…you are right, please forgive me for being selfish yet again, Aniki. I will not bother you with such a trivial issue once again, especially when you are attempting to study. I hadn’t meant to interrupt you.” Kiyotaka couldn’t lie to himself, he felt hurt. Yes, it had been such a stupid non-issue, but Ishida’s input had always mattered to him. Maybe he was simply getting too old for the likes of his much less outgoing brother, it was certainly a possibility he wouldn’t have doubted.
“The hell?” This shouldn’t have shocked him, but he never did word his sentences quite right, it seemed. Ishida hated being misconstrued, but it was his own fault he concluded. The albino fumed with exasperation, triggering his infamous aggressive reactions. His brows furrowed, his hands lifted in annoyance, and his volume raised within a few moments. “Did I fuckin’ say you were bein’ selfish? Huh?!” Preserving Kiyotaka’s feelings had always been an important role he wished to keep up with until he wasn’t needed anymore – but many times his own emotions got the better of him, and unfortunately the one he wanted to protect frequently became the victim of his own tirades.
He always felt awful. It hurt to cause the other to feel as if he was a burden, it hurt to resort to short bursts of anger, and it hurt to see how that affects Kiyotaka more so. When left to himself, thinking of the relationship he holds with his brother, Ishida often wonders if he has unintentionally reinforced Kiyotaka’s mindset during times like this – in a small fit, if a harsh phrase ever accidentally slipped away from him. As time had gone one, he had gotten better, though. It was becoming easier to recognize when he was being unnecessarily angry, though it took some control to calm himself. “I said I don’t care! Shit!” A pause. “If you were bothering me, I’d tell you. But you’re not. You’re fine.”
his-aniki :
Telling him to calm himself was a rather redundant statement in itself. Ishida knew that Kiyotaka could never calm down, not once in his life had he known the word when applied to himself. He was overemotional–rational–but overemotional. Physicality was one thing, Kiyotaka could take a punch to the jaw, someone shoving him against a set of lockers, but toying with his emotions was another beast entirely. They both knew he was damaged, though the topic rarely came to light between them. It was better instead to bury it down deep where no one would find it. “I cannot argue with your logic, though somehow I doubt whomever wrote this will be revealing themselves anytime soon. Again, I am sorry for wasting your time with something so trivial, Aniki. I am sure you have your own set of problems to deal with! Perhaps we should forget about this for now, clearly sitting around and having a conversation about it is getting us nowhere! For now I will…simply assume this was a prank, that is all.” It was the easiest solution anyway, instead of dwelling on something so pointless.
All the while Kiyotaka rambled, pretty much talking to himself at this point, Ishida blocked the other’s words. He saw that there was only so much he could do for his brother, so he kept quiet until the other silenced himself. Again, the fact that Kiyotaka came to confide in him was flattering – made him feel honored – the the consistent blathering became tiring.
‘I will simply assume this was a prank.’ The ending came around, and Ishida presented a weary smile to the other, glad to hear he settled on a view.
“Finally made up your mind, then, Aniki?” was his rejoinder, hunching forward in his seat for a moment before hoisting himself up back on to his feet. “Look, if you find that this happens again, you can tell me about it; I don’t care. Let’s make it…shorter next time, though.” He meant it. It wasn’t easy to Kiyotaka to confess his issues to others, and it wasn’t easy for Ishida to let him know he can confide in him, but for the most part Ishida felt as if this chat had been a successful one. “And if it is a joke, tell me… or better yet, Kyoudai. He’ll give them what for, I am sure of it.”

Kiyotaka’s mouth snapped shut, the grip on his bag tightening once again. What Ishida just suggested…it was a possibility that he didn’t even want to think about. Yes, this was the type of cruelty he was used to–middle school had been particularly awful–but to imagine that someone he’d grown to know in these last few weeks would have done something like that; it was unfathomable. At least to him. “Perhaps…you are right, Aniki. It was silly of me to take it so seriously, wasn’t it? I am sure that you are correct as usual, it must be some kind of joke.” His smile dropped, face scrunching in an almost pained expression. More than anything, Kiyotaka didn’t want to cry this time. Not out of disappointment, not out of anger, not out of sadness. He tried to smile though it came out twisted, the corners of his eyes glistening. “If I were more versed in what our peers find funny, I am sure I wouldn’t have been fooled so easily!” A strained laugh followed his attempt to laugh it off, the sound catching in his throat. He was lucky Ishida was there, that he’d made it into Hope’s peak as well. Otherwise where would he be? Kiyotaka may have gotten the higher grades, but Ishida understood the world. Something so simple could trick Kiyotaka, but had Ishida received it, he would have seen it for what it was. “Do you think that they are only tolerating me? So as not to damage my feelings?”
“Ah,... try to calm yourself, please.”
It burned to watch Kiyotaka react to the suggestion. Of all the people who to receive pranks such as this, Kiyotaka was never and will never be deserving of them. He’s never wished harm upon anyone and only hopes to watch his fellow classmates excel in their futures.
Ishida didn’t bother to reply to his brother’s question immediately. If someone wanted to crush Kiyotaka’s spirit, why with such an elementary method? There is a possibility that the note is fake, and he’ll hold on to the thought for a while -- but it could have been sincere as well. Mentally scrolling through the faces of their peers, none of them seemed to be obvious suspects. Deep down he wished it was true; he wished for his twin to receive more positivity from his classmates.
“For the most part, I believe everyone’s genuine. It’s true, everyone tolerates you; what’s important is that no one rejects you here. That in itself should give you some faith in the writer. For now, perhaps take the message with a grain of salt. You don’t know who wrote it, you can’t pinpoint who wrote it, you don’t know why it was written, and you don’t know the purpose of it. If all you can do is wait, then wait.”
Deep down, Kiyotaka knew Ishida was right, there was no way to know who had done this, unless he studied each and every student’s handwriting in the academy. And certainly, he had no time for such an in depth analysis. Not when he had homework as well as studying to attend to. This was merely something which had diverted his interest for the time being. He sighed, taking a seat as he placed the small note back into his bag. “I knew how fruitless it would be to inquire about something so insignificant. Rather…I think i wanted to show you first, Aniki. And of course to make absolutely sure this was meant for me! It is…an odd feeling to have an admirer, I wasn’t quite sure what else to do!” Kiyotaka couldn’t help but laugh at his own naivete, running to his brother when someone had just confessed their feelings to him. “I am sure Kyoudai will get a good laugh out of it too, though I am not sure he would appreciate it if I received something like this before he has!” That and Mondo also liked to make assumptions. Would probably go around demanding answers from each girl in class. Assuming it was a girl. Kiyotaka almost hoped not, he’d hate to hurt her feelings, to hurt anyone’s feelings. Turning people own was never an easy task for someone like him who tried to please everyone when regulations weren’t involved.
The scenario was new to the both of them. After thinking it over for a moment, Ishida figured he’d have done the same if he had found a similar letter in his locker. Though he wasn’t sure if he’d label it as insignificant as Kiyotaka had. Someone had written it, and therefore wanted to spark a positive reaction from his brother -- or, even possibly, negative.
“Could it be fake?” For the most part, forms of bullying from the relentless crowd had dwindled down to harsh remarks. Mostly. The idea of a classmate resorting to elementary methods to toy with his brother’s emotions stuck to him. Their history is rich with multiple forms of bullying, and although this note could very well be sincere, Ishida couldn’t find it rational to expel the possibility.
Dismissing his Kiyotaka’s calmness, he took a seat across from the other. It’d be relieving to have an inclination as to whether the letter was genuine -- but he supposed that’d be difficult to prove other than to take the sender’s word for it. “You shouldn’t go assuming it’s real yet. Hell, anyone could have written it. It’d be a shame if this is only harsh joke.” At the very thought of it Ishida hid a ‘fucking cruel’ with a scoff before leaning back against his seat.
Kiyotaka felt his heart throbbing in his chest, pounding as if it would burst out at any given moment. He nodded much to quickly with each question, making himself dizzy with each over exaggeration of the motion. “My name was on the envelope, there is no mistake! That is, unless they somehow confused us for one another!” He almost hoped that was the case, that someone had merely mixed their names up. Teeth worried at his bottom lip, face still burning while he thought about the contents of the letter. “I know that, I know that it was much too kind, and I’m sure I must have disturbed you in my haste. I am just…unsure of what to do exactly.” True, the letter had been anonymous, it was so simple that Kiyotaka could have easily ignored it. But then, Kiyotaka never managed to view things of this manner through a clear lens. “How do i handle this kind of situation, Aniki? I have never found myself in such a predicament. It is flattering, however I also find it strange. If nothing else, I would have greatly liked to know who wrote this.”
“Aniki...”
Ishida thought hard about what his brother had said, if they had been mistaken for one another. Appearances alone, they were different. He thought it odd that a classmate would make a mistake like that -- it is possible, though he truly doubted it. Besides, charming, although still humorous, did seem to fit Kiyotaka better than himself. With a firm hand and a stern pressure on his twin’s shoulder, Ishida uttered, “Before you do anything else, you should sit down. Please. I worry you’ll end up light headed,” as he nudged Kiyotaka near a seat.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t believe I’ll be of any help to you.” Neither had been in a scenario like this in the past, and while Ishida was glad his brother came to confide in him, ideas came up as blank for who the person was or how to handle this situation properly.
“If the letter is anonymous, I’m not sure you can be of any help to yourself, either. Unless you can match the handwriting, I’m afraid you may need to wait it out until they write to you again, or better yet, talk to you in person. I don’t... believe there’s much else to do between then and now. That may not be what you wish to hear; I’m sorry I cannot help you further.”
@littlerabblerouser liked for a starter Kiyotaka shifted his weight from one foot to the other, both excited yet nervous for his twin to answer the door. Today something unusual happened; in his locker a small letter had been neatly tucked away. Whoever had stuffed it in there must have pushed it through the slim holes. Thinking back on it, he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe this mystery person had mistaken his locker for someone else’s, he couldn’t fathom a thing he could have possibly done to garner such affection. Though there was no time to dwell on such a thing now, Ishida opening the door signaled Kiyotaka’s chance to enter. “Aniki! I’m sorry for bothering you with such short notice, but I felt this as urgent enough to warrant a visit!” A hand dove into the confines of his bag, searching for the note, shoving it against the other boy’s chest. “I…I implore you to read it, please!”
Ishida had been starting up his first assignment for the day when his brother came rapping at his door. The urgent tone set the albino off guard, worried for a split second that his twin had gotten hurt. However, upon lifting the piece of paper and giving it a quick read his concern was swapped with confusion.
“What’s... this?” He knew full well that it was a love letter, signed off with the classic ‘an admirer’ -- What confused him was the fact that Kiyotaka was showing this to him. Ishida figured, believing that he is right, that his twin wouldn’t show this to him if it was found on the ground, but rather if it was addressed to him. The fact that someone might label Kiyotaka as charming and cute was borderline humorous.
“Ah,... I don’t mean to be dull,” he began as he gave the note another quick scan, “But this was addressed to you, correct?” The boy flipped the paper to the other side, checking the back for an extra message (alas there was none) before handing it back. “If so, that’s rather -- eh... kind of the writer.”
