I need to rant about my country.
Because what do u mean the places where I was born and raised, my land and my sea are no longer accessible to locals because are turning more and more into playgrounds for tourists to fit their idea of romantic vacation. With ofc prices accessible only for tourists, because they are made for them.
and I know that tourists bring money to the country and are probably one of the pillars of my country's economy, but what is the point of having money for the country if overturism is destroying the country and we can barely live here.
I mean I have nothing against tourists, Im also a tourist myself and I love to travel but the other day I went to a famous historical street in my city that has always been famous for being "the street of bookstores" with lots of small independent bookstores selling second-hand books. And almost none of these bookstores exist anymore, they have all been turned into souvenir stores or tourist trap restaurants, I talked to a old man from one of the two bookstores left on this street and he said that soon he will have to close too because the street that has become famous on the internet has filled up with tourists, people have started to open tourist places and now the locals don't go there anymore and the tourists only come into the bookstores to take pictures and not to buy.
To make it worse, most of the tourists who come here are disrespectful and they refuse to acknowledge the culture and history of the place they're visiting.
And Im so mad because every year,hundreds of tourists come to my town and most of the time the homepage of my socials are filled with videos of tourists complaining about all the issues in my city once they get here and realize it's not their aesthetic vacation village straight out of Pinterest. They complain about the garbage,the locals who don't speak English,the malfunctioning public transportation. Guess what; people live here and suffer these issues on a daily basis. You are going home in a few weeks, u will be fine, this is not about u, u are annoyed just because this ruins your perfect vacation, u're just annoyed because u travel expecting the country u visit to conform to u,to conform to you as a tourist and your idea of a vacation, to conform to the language u speak, to conform to your comfort.
(Sorry for the rant, ik this wont change anything. I just wanted to rant about it.)
