At first, the bean box was large, intimidating, even the notion of someone nearing the monstrosity caused a chorus of screaming protests and warning honks.
Now, thanks to an older, wiser, puffy-cheeked friend, the fear and distrust has become interest and respect.

THE BEEB IS BACK!!! Well, to be completely honest, she’s been back for a couple weeks, due to settling in, some medical issues, and depression, it’s taken me a while to make this post.
We’re currently living with friends (Who may be introduced soon), those pins are getting preened, and we’re all getting some much needed time to be together again!
I also wanted to make a special thanks to everyone that donated to her boarding costs!
Kati and Leo, Miriam, Stormee, Leslie, Violet, Hannah, and huge thanks to Amanda, Patricia, and Elizabeth, along with everyone who helped reblog and offered supplies, resources, and kind words!! Seriously, every bit of it has helped.
We’re not totally out of the woods, but we’re safe thanks to these donations and the incredible generosity of friends.
Finally, a much needed update.
The past few months have been intense, I was able to get out of the dangerous living situation and in with some incredible friends who are helping me out for the moment. I was working about 10-16 hours a day, six and then five days a week. I lost my job last week, and there’ve been my own medical issues at play as well which are still getting worked out.
Now that my living situation is safe, my work schedule is gone, and when I get another it won’t be as ridiculous, I’m finally able to bring Embers home from boarding tomorrow!!
I’ve been getting regular updates and a few pictures (like the ones above), she’s been having dance parties, everyone at the hospital adores her, she is such a charmer. I’m so incredibly excited, I haven’t been with her in almost two months and there are just no words for how much I’ve missed her.
Now for logistics. Since she’s been in boarding for 2 months, the bill has increased to way more than I expected. The donations I’ve received have gone to two deposits I’ve already made, and the ending bill I’ll get tomorrow is going to be $723.70.
I feel uncomfortable asking for more donations, the ones I’ve received have already been very generous. That said, I’m very much struggling financially. Only if you have the means to, if you’d like to make a donation, here is the link to my PayPal.
And I’ve like to thank everyone, all of Embers’ followers for sticking with us through this.
Update time! I’m sorry for no updates lately (working 6 days a week does that to you). Embers is safe! I took her into boarding last Friday, I was honest with them about the situation and they were very understanding, instead of charging me for a full three weeks right off the bat (which is what was agreed upon for the time being to be extended when/if need be), they took a $100 deposit!
The last two photos were taken by the kennel attendant, I checked in today and she’s having a vacation with dance parties, she even stepped up for a stranger!!! I’m so incredibly proud of her and so so happy that she’ll be safe and happy while I look for a place for us to go. They also did a short assessment which determined she won’t be needing observation boarding and is clearly having a good time in regular boarding.
Thanks to another generous donation, we’ve raised $181.55!! Which is enough to cover 15 days! While this is extremely helpful, it’s not going to cover her entire stay, the goal I’m trying to reach for is at least $600.
Just a recap, my original post has all the initial information along with an update I made before bringing her in. If you can, I’m still accepting donations to my PayPal at [email protected], everything goes directly to her boarding and keeping her out of this unsafe environment.
I wanted to give a little update without making the original posting too long about getting us out of an unsafe living situation, I’ve made a couple more calls to MCFB and will be bringing her in for the initial exam and intake tomorrow morning.
Though, since Embers has had issues in the past, she may need observation boarding where she’ll be inside the hospital section so the vets and techs can keep a better eye on her instead of the normal boarding area (which may be better for her in more ways than one, she’ll probably not be as loud with all the attention and action she gets to watch). This, however, brings us to $19.50 a day, including an exam cost for when she’s admitted.
So far, two more people have donated, bringing the total donated so far to $131.55, with the new costs this will be about 6 days in boarding. I’m so incredibly thankful for the people who’ve donated so generously, that’s 6 days of assured safety for Embers and more left in my savings for an apartment for us.
This also means I need to set a new goal, since 2 months would be over $1000, I don’t want to ask for so much, I’d like to set it to $800, with $800 she’ll be able to stay in boarding long enough for me to find us a safe place to live (I’m hoping, finding affordable housing in the Bay Area is not an easy task).
We’re kind of getting down to the wire here, I’m increasingly worried which is why I’m bringing her in ASAP, so it doesn’t give me a lot of time. If you could share this, that alone would be a huge help, and seriously, only donate if you have the means to.
For all this to work, so far I have $131.55, I’m hoping to reach $800 within the next couple weeks (they need to be paid for boarding in advance, so I’ll have to use some of what I was saving for rent ), and I’d rather Embers stay there for no more than two months.

As I’ve mentioned a bit, I’ve been having a few issues with housing, Embers and I are in the Bay Area where rent is ridiculous, and even with multiple jobs within the past year, and now even with a decent paying job, it’s not enough. We’re now in an unsafe living situation.
The person I’m currently living with has an absolute disregard for what Embers or I need, there’s no privacy or personal space, and Embers has been put at physical risk multiple times since being here (Draino poured in my room, given unhealthy foods, left in the cold for 2 days while I was away briefly, put under immense stress, continuously being upset by three cats that have also been invading her space).
In addition to the risk put on Embers, because of past trauma and abuse with this same person, I’ve been continually retriggered in very unexpected ways, causing crippling anxiety and depression which has started to lead to minor hallucinations. All of this putting my job at risk, luckily they’re very understanding and very understaffed for the time being. Not to mention when Embers sees me stressed, her stress increases.
I’ve been fighting to keep from doing this, I’d much rather make crocheted commissions, but due to all the stress and with barely any time I have to even sleep right now, I’m asking for donations. Everything given will go to Embers being boarded at Medical Center for Birds while I look for a place, and to future rent for the brood and I.

I’ve checked in with MCFB and it’s about $11.55 a day (which doesn’t include the possible exam she may need before going in).
I'm setting a timeline for about 2 months for us to move out, it gives us enough time to save a bit more money from work, to find a place/roommate, and pack everything. I'd like to set a goal for about $650 which would cover most of Embers' boarding if I were to board her for the two months (which is the last thing I want, to be away from her for so long, but her safety is much more important.) Anything beyond her boarding costs will strictly go to rent.

I have a wonderful update about Link! Not only have they settled in nicely to their current foster home, they’ve gotten a new cage AND is actually allowing some head scritches!!! Link is doing very well and I’m incredibly happy they’re in a place that can better provide for them. I’ve gotten periodic updates about their progress, working on those flight muscles, building trust, not quite stepping up but clearly beginning to trust hands!!
Wow I am so sorry for my lack of updates. Three jobs and moving in the past two months, it’s been hard keeping up with the blog too. Cute pics and videos and updates coming in a few!
I have teamed up with sadface-art (who designed the above shirt) to help the local parrot rescue! The Northeast Avian Rescue (NEAR) recently took in a multitude of birds from TWO abusive hoarding situations. Some of the birds taken in are featured in the collage above. This influx of birds means more costly vet trips, food, and supplies very suddenly, and now the rescue needs your help!

Some news about sweet Link. The actual date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but a foster home as finally been found, they’ll be going in about two weeks. It’s been amazing to watch this little one grow in the few months they’ve been with me, I love them and I hate to see them go but with my jobs, housing issues, Embers’ jealousy, and all the other kids that need loving too (two rats, mice, and Zelda the beardie) it’s what’s best for all of us.
The family has been connected to the rescue for a while and has a few birds, so Link won’t be the only bird (though will be going through quarantine of course), they’ll be getting a larger cage, more attention, and I think living in an actual house! I have high hopes that he’ll be spoiled to hell and maybe even become hand friendly eventually!
It doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier, I’m gonna miss this little fluff of sass and our little conversations of clicks and squeaks.
This heatwave was brutal, now it’s OVER AND I CAN OPEN THE WINDOWS! Anyway, here’s Embers living up to her blog name and making a mess, which is why it’s in the water bowl and not on the stand itself.
I know there haven’t been many updates, I just got two jobs! Sorry about the space between posts ^^;
So there’s a disgusting heatwave happening in California right now, so as I was putting ice cubes in the kird’s drinks, Embers just grabs one and flies to her perch to munch on it.
