i’m so sorry about my inactivity / lack of replies the last few days; work has been killing me ( after working eleven hours daily i have no motivation to write after getting home sobs ), but i’ll be on vacation next week so that’s when i will be catching up on all the replies. soRRY FOR THE DELAY!!

A lopsided smile appears on his face at the child’s frigid retort. He does not exactly come into contact with children in his occupation (no, no; that would be far too dangerous!), so he is never entirely sure how to treat them. Some could be quite sweet, while others were the devil himself compacted into the smallest of vessels. However, this one’s disposition is found to be rather charming! More specifically, it makes the doctor want to tease the hell out of him!
“Oh, but I am talking to you, boy!” Vanitas noticeably stoops down for good measure, making sure to angle himself at eye-level with the other, eyes encompassing a positively mischievous smile. “You seem to be a child to me! A very cute little boy, with a pout on his face.” He pauses for a breath, impishness unwavering, letting his comments sink in and relishing in the prospect of drawing an interesting reaction out of the other. Suddenly, posture straightens once more and he sighs with a dismissive wave of his hand.
“Unfortunately, I am a doctor, not a babysitter. I’ve no time to watch children.” Having to keep someone like Noé on a leash was exhausting and the thought of voluntarily putting himself in a similar situation is already sapping his optimism. He briefly wonders how de Sade managed to deal with the predicament her entire life. Still, his expression turns thoughtful for a moment, faint stirrings of pity at the other’s situation tugging at the back of his mind. “But if you are looking for somewhere to eat, I suppose I could let you join me. I’m not terribly familiar with area myself, you see. I’m famished as well, so whatever you fancy, simply point it out.” He cannot keep promises on the ‘royal’ part though; the doctor’s funds have been a little, ah, strained since he’s arrived.
█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) CIEL DETESTS THE MAN’S ATTITUDE; his voice, a presence so centered, that ciel's hatred is almost palpable, feels like molasses against his skin. he's just another human that believes age makes someone SUPERIOR; that those younger than him are more green, a brush of leaves, a glimpse of grass instead of the FIRE ciel holds inside. he's seen as too young, a child, and it's enough to have him seething -- for him to wish that sebastian were there so he could take care of IMBVILES like these.
except sebastian isn't here, he's ALONE, and the gun on his hip isn't REAL anymore. his only defense is a long breath, a sigh he wields as a response. he imagines a collision between them -- clash of metal, the clang of dropped weapons; the sound of edges against armor. but the ORDEAL wears on him, makes him tired, his voice heavy as he PLUCKS the sound from his chest. " i don't need a BABYSITTER, nor did i ever ASK you to be one. you shouldn't act so high and MIGHTY, sir. " his voice cools, grows distant; above, his eyebrows furrow, carve small lines of annoyance between them. " you clearly don't know WHO you're talking to and if you were to live in my world, you'd be KNEELING before the earl of PHANTOMHIVE ! you should be honored that i'll be accompanying you. "
he clicks his tongue, starts to walk, expect the NAMELESS man to step with him and follow. logic finds him in a small tremble of thoughts, tells him to make the best out of the situation: his stomach is empty, DEMANDSsomething edible. " of course YOU’LL pay for everything. you wouldn't possibly let a child pay now, would you? "
Having been a frequent goer of the local cafes for their congenial environments, he had grown somewhat familiar with the order of things within–the people, the employees, the density of the crowds–which was bolstered by his wont of striking up conversations with the city’s wanderers. At times, little presented itself with which to incite interaction, but upon entering the building, his attention diverted with all immediacy.
At one of the booths sat a young man–certainly not an unusual sight–partaking in the library-like milieu, enjoying cups of the facility’s loose leaf tea, albeit with … an impressively elegant tea set placed upon the table before him. Its ornate delicacy and handcrafted quality were leagues beyond anything Mana’s family ever had in their mansion (and he thought their sets were something to behold!); he could envision the sharp glint it would gain from his mother’s eye as if she stood a mere foot away. Pulled by his infinite capacity for questions, he approached the other–an assumed aristocrat–and recalled his many lessons on manners.
‘Please pardon the interruption, sir, but your tea set made me curious. What era is it from? I have not seen anything like it before.’

█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) IT’S NEVER THE LONELINESS HE enjoys -- never sentient enough to notice it -- but its effect, the still SILENCE that pulses around him, as though he's trapped in a softened breath that keeps the strangers away. it's also a relief that he's brought a tea set that's ornate enough to be WORTH his time since there's hope in its lines, a glimpse of HOME that he clings to; elegance usually comes with a lasting nostalgia.
still, even in peace, his new SURROUNDINGS always crash in -- a stranger interrupts him, tears apart the quiet he's grown fond of. ciel can only WISH he were alone as he turns, both annoyed and surprised: at least the man knew HOW to approach someone with manners. that detail dims his fury, contains the anger in his voice; only cooled sound spills, a stream of steady sound. " from the VICTORIAN era. it is a tea set i've received from her MAJESTY upon completing a case successfully; it was a REWARD. "
he takes another sip to tether himself to his THINNING privacy, though the incoming emptiness gives space for the curiosity that perches itself in his eyes, scatters his thought; it's mostly the MANNERS that throw him off. " if you WANT, you may take a seat and try some of the earl grey tea. perhaps introduce yourself. "

he lost count on how many YOUNG individuals he had encounter. then again he was never really counting. regardless he seen ENOUGH to let him know he’ll probably get IRRITATED quickly by THEIR childish antics.

the warning comes with a SNARL, a small sound, more of a warning than a full-bodies communication. of three things, he's sure: the man in front of him can't be entirely HUMAN -- he's like a lighting rod to oddity, a collection of creepy behavior; the incoming moments were going to be hell; he's going to make sure that it's more HELLISH for the man than for himself. " i, as the EARL of phantomhive, can take care of myself very well. do you think i'm HAPPY about being stuck here with you? "
The concatenation was never broken nor does it rusted in the least, the series of duties befall upon the Phantomhive butler commence to ensue as it were when the beckoning call of the morning are stripped off of its sable veil. His morning routine embarks on proffering a nudge in the Earl’s slumber && caters to him with the arousing aroma of his favoured tea whilst precisely tending to every fragments of his desideratum.
Though, something is amiss. The young master seems a whole lot troubled than customary — anxious of sort from the moment he was roused from his slumber. CURIOSITY. certainly the demon could not be imprecise apropos of such detail, could he? Not after when it had became a skill Sebastian adepts whilst serving to the young Earl from the moment the contract was forged — as though the child existence was facile enough to be peered through.
“ Certainly. ‘ They ’ have been taken care of. ” Form of honeyed tone, waltzing past his pale tinted lips, his stature phlegmatic whilst Ivory veiled palm delicately pouring the tea into void teacup of the young male. “ Is something the matter, my Lord? You seem troubled. ”
█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) HE PERKS UP AT SEBASTIAN’S ANSWER, at the mention of "THEM". his gaze falls back to his food as he picks at the edges, pokes its middle. his motion LACKS any enthusiasm, and instead he pours any color that remains into his voice, heightens it just enough; dresses it with with a subtle IMPORTANCE, a brush of emphasis.
" i feel like there's SOMETHING looming outside. something DANGEROUS. an instinct, perhaps. " he sets his fork down, tries to calm himself with the tea sebastian's served instead; a few sips later, his throat WARMS enough for his voice to slide through again. and as he speaks, he sews a thread of warning into his syllables. " WHO are you referring to when you say 'THEY' have been taken care of? was there someone you haven't informed me about? "
at once, his voice ends, becomes SHARP as he pushes the plate of food aside; his features twist into a scowl. " it's too COLD, i can't eat this. "

superior eyes easily picked out the molar being gestured to by a small finger, now UNHINDERED by a tightly closed mouth. he could grasp now, the difficulties that were induced when trying to chew food. he made a small, understanding hum, left hand already reaching up to divest his right hand of its silk glove. a pale, finely boned hand was revealed, nails coloured BLACK. it would do no good to have his gloves DIRTY over something so small. he would just assess the tooth to see if it was indeed loose, and not something else. any harm coming to his master under his watch would be counterproductive after all, and a problem that impairs FOOD intake was most certainly important. ‘ i see it’s quite far back, isn’t it ? may i feel it ? ’ his hand reached towards his young lord’s mouth before pausing, waiting for his consent. it would do no good for the young lord to grow more IRRITATED than he already was.
█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) HIS CONFIDENCE CRUMBLES, OVERCOME BY cracks, small fractures that leave a space for reluctance to slip in; solid corners become uncertain, lightness becomes heavy, and his order to sebastian softens, TREMBLES. the reaction mimics fear and it peaks when sebastian slips off his glove -- a rarity that leaves ciel on edge, curls his toes in EXPECTATION. still nervous, his body becomes a string of hesitant motion: his fingers tighten, his mouth parts, widens, and he exposes himself to what may come. in a way, what pushes him forward is the sight of the dessert in front of him -- his gaze fixes on its shape, the implied SWEETNESS of gentle lines, its contrast against the plate, almost regal against the mantle. it tempts him as much as it annoys him; he wants to have it, is unable, and the DISSONANCE allows him to want his tooth to be checked, allows his mouth to open wider as his speech swells past the borders of clarity. " but hurry up, you know i DON’T like my dessert when it's too WARM. "

█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) THE SILENCE RUPTURES, GIVES WAY to sebastian’s question – it takes him as a surprise, an interruption. he’s grown so used to sebastian being quiet and ATTENTIVE, ready to serve tea as ciel works through files of cases, as he writes reports for her majesty, that his voice itself comes like a splash of water. his eyes threaten to widen, his HEARTBEAT to stutter, but he manages to grip his center, to let the feeling POUR over him for the few moments it lasts before the hint of a grin twists his lips.
“ are you getting SENTIMENTAL all of a sudden, sebastian? ” and even when he tries to pull apart his tone from a mocking rhythm, it doesn’t work well, still spills into his words. he lays a pencil down, raises his gaze to rest against the DEMON; it’s here that he notices the sudden change of events as a small game that he can toy with, a slip of amusement between work. “ WHY should i care about your origins? you’re here to SERVE me, fulfill MY wishes, until the day i get revenge and you may eat my soul – everything else is ENTIRELY irrelevant. ”
as usual, his face is cold, VOID of emotion; his eyes fall to his papers again while indifference coats his voice. it goes unsaid that after all those years of spending his days with sebastian, from time to time, like the FLEETING flap of an insect’s wings, he’s wondered what sebastian had been like before their contract. sometimes the curiosity lingers, sometimes it’s as short as the beat of a wing, but that, he figures, is something his butler doesn’t have to know.

Violet eyes had been trained on the circus members that are currently out in the ring, dark orange eyebrows furrowed with anticipation for his fellow performers. He had sat by the boy on purpose, but he hadn’t expected him to speak so soon. So when ‘Smile’ had suddenly said something to him, the ringmaster couldn’t help but to be a bit alarmed. With a grin at the question, he tilts his head and taps a skeletal forefinger against the tip of his chin, fang pointing out over his lower lip.
“Well sprout, I gave it te ye so ye could do just that, smile.” Joker had noticed that the boy didn’t seem keen on showing any joyful emotions much, and he figured perhaps once the younger got used to it, the fake smile would eventually turn into a real one.
“n’ Smile is too a cool name!” More like cute, but that probably wouldn’t help Smile feel any better about it. “It coulda been worse, ye know! There’s more te a performer than their stage name, lad!”
█░ ( THE QUEEN’S WATCHDOG ) HE ISN’T ENTIRELY PLEASED WITH the response he's given, forces him to wonder why'd he bothered to ask, why he bothers to speak now, even, since communication had been minimal; most of his words are exchanged with his roommate for a set of reasons, a string of logic, and he knew as well that EACH moment of conversation tugs him closer to that eventual trip of his words. each minute of interaction, he assumes, only brings his TRUE identity to the surface, piece by piece, like a scattered puzzle coming together.
and it isn't fueled by an INABILITY to lie, but an unhappiness at his condition here; this isn't how he wants to live, so his body, out of his control, vies to reveal itself, to break his disguise. yet the conversation has begun and he knows joker would be SUSPICIOUS if he were to leave suddenly.
" i see. what ELSE is there to a performer? " he continues with careful eyes, studies their surroundings in fragments; he might as well try to find out more about the circus, a crucial piece to the ongoing INVESTIGATION. " i mean, it'd be great if you could give me some ADVICE-- what else do you and your troupe do here? i want to fit in as best as i can. "
