Counterintuitively, I learn languages better when I don’t learn from a textbook.

I do fun little mini games or continuously try to translate poems, I make guesses on how words fit together until I have an unexplainable understanding of basic grammar, and only then do I check a textbook to explain what I understand.

We’re built to learn languages. When a language is taught, there’s a disconnect between the text’s explanation and actual, deep understanding that will help me learn more as time goes on. It’s great to be able to double check grammar rules to be sure I got it right, but I can’t learn when primarily “taught”.

Ahhh I can’t possibly say no to a chance to elaborate on this.

It stands for „chuj w dupę policji” which means quite literally „a cock into the police’s ass” but it should be noted that it resounds much stronger since „chuj” is considered to be one of the most vulgar words in Polish language and also this entire phrase expresses a command.

Now as you may know „h” and „ch” express the same sound in Polish therefore you can find this abbreviated as both „CHWDP” and „HWDP”, HWDP being seen as more… ah, primitive of the two by virtue of technically being incorrect.

„A cock in your ass” (pl. chuj ci w dupę) is a fairly common way of telling somebody to fuck off in Polish.

in my experience if you're learning a language but you're worried about not pronouncing it right or sounding ridiculous in front of native speakers, I'm here to tell you that most people do not care. they don't care if you have an accent or if your mother tongue is peeking through, because in all honesty, everyone has an accent. it's unfair and frankly unrealistic to expect people to bear no remnants of their native tongue when speaking another. you've spent your entire life speaking your language, interacting with the world in it; your understanding of language is built on your native one and its natural sounds. no one can expect you to entirely shift how your brain processes words and sounds. most native speakers will just appreciate you trying at all. if it's comprehensible, if the gist of what you're saying gets across, then it's good enough. if you're trying, your accent is fine.

Rua - Red / Rust / Ginger Fionn - Blonde

Dearg is used traditionally to refer to the colour red in blood or ink, and now its used for all bright reds across media Rua is used exclusively for hair and also for deep reds such as rust Bándearg is used for all shades of pink and is a modern colour Oráiste is a very modern word for orange, as buí had previously been used for all shades of yellow and orange. Now oráiste is exclusively used for orange. Flannbhuí is rarely used however it refers to the specific shade of orange that appears on the flag. Fionn is specifically used for hair and refers to all shades of blonde, from bleached to dark blonde. Glas was traditionally used for all light greens, light blues and light greys. Now it's used to refer to natural occurances of the colour green (grass etc). Uaine refers to artificial greens and is the shade of green that appears on the flag. Gorm traditionally referred to dark greens, dark blues and dark greys and the rare occurances of blue in nature such as the sea. Now it refers to all shades of blue. Bán usually refers to frost and sickly skin in traditional uses but now is used for most uses of white. Geal is used for snow, teeth, swans and when refering to white/caucasian people. Dubh is referring to the colour in terms of hair, ravens and the night. Black people are daoine gorma - as gorm referred to dark colours/shades in general and the phrase 'duine dubh' referred to someone with black hair.

As the language evolved, there have been more colours translated as is natural - but these are the traditional and/or most common ones that you'll see.

if you’re learning a language you’re either “I have the vocabulary of a pretentious old literature professor but grammar is a sinful mistress who shall never cross the threshold of my house” or you’re “I only know what ‘strawberry’ and ‘to go’ mean but by ye gods I can make them jump through conjugation hoops and declension parcours that would peel the socks off your feet”. no in between
