What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

i know we've talked about this a thousand times but the 7x04 gaslighting went so crazy. a whole episode where buck is stupid possessive jealous over eddie. so much so that the guy who kisses him on the mouth says "MY attention???" and then the show just moves on like that didnt mean anything. just oh you know buck silly bisexual buck went crazy over eddie and is dating men now and those things are unrelated dont worry about it. and tommy knows and maddie knows and buck knows what eddie means to him but its fine its just best friend stuff. its not queerbaiting its saving the world
