Living with Giant Spiders

"Eight legs, two fangs, and an attitude," that's the tagline from the 1990 hit movie Arachnophobia. Sadly a fear of spiders is one of the world's most common phobias. However, spiders can make fascinating, challenging pets. Certainly they're not for everyone. Many require special care and attention to ensure their health and well-being. In this blog I'll attempt to keep a diary of my life with Lasiodora parahybana, the planet's second largest spider, and other tarantulas.

Not a very good picture but this was Poppy a few hours ago, mid-way through her moult. You can see her brand new fangs, all white, these will turn black as they harden over the next few days.

Put Lem's heat pad on the exterior of her tank, although she doesn't really need it but she's a bit of a pampered pet. She does love having that extra bit of heat to snuggle up against during the winter months. Poppy has got one too. #tarantulas, #spiders
