i love when characters don't get to die
this is about villains/antagonists/general horrible people who finally face up to what they've done. especially if they try to pull the good ole "Dramatically Does One Good Thing To Redeem Themselves And Dies," but despite their best efforts they DON'T die. like yes motherfucker there's no easy way out for you, there's only the slow, awkward and painful process of learning to live with yourself. of learning to live with the weight of your mistakes. you get a second chance regardless of if you think you deserve it. you get to try to make amends and do good. you get to live.
this is also about every self-sacrificial bastard of a protagonist who puts themselves in harm's way again and again and again to a wildly unhealthy and unnecessary degree. see, there's something so compelling to me in the unspoken suicidality of repeated heroic self-sacrifice, and the thing about implicitly suicidal characters is that i want them to live. and that can be used to make a death so much more tragic and impactful - noble sacrifices and last stands certainly can and have been done beautifully - but there's also something special to me in seeing such a character make it. because you'd die for the people you love, yes, but would you live for them?
— Why do you care — I just…do.
my cameo from jason, in which he reads my most favorite passage from the magician king, and is the most adorable endearing darling in the process.

- Okay, yeah, that’s a lot of zeroes. - Um, how many zeroes? - Uh, to be exact? - Yeah. - A shitload. The Magicians | S03E05: A Life in the Day (2018)
His posture was very straight, but his mouth was twisted to one side, in a permanent half grimace that revealed a nest of teeth sticking both in and out at improbable angles. He looked like a child who had been slightly misdelivered, with some subpar forceps handling by the attending. But despite his odd appearance Eliot had an air of effortless self-possession that made Quentin urgently want to be his friend, or maybe just be him period. The Magicians (The Magicians, #1) by Lev Grossman
But like? Imagine Eliot goes Niffin trying to bring back Quentin because nobody is around to stop him?
The magicians couldve been so good and Im still very sad that it wasnt
Realised I haven’t posted an update since pre-Christmas break, but exams are finally over and I’ve had time to work again! :D

The deepier they rolled into Fillory, the shakier Quentin felt, but Eliot was the opposite: he just got calmer and more sure of himself, exactly the way Quentin had thought he, Quentin, would, and exaclty the way that he wasn’t.

“The beauty of all life”? Sounds appropriately vague and impossible. The Magicians | S03E05: A Life in the Day (2018)
