With Hope 4 Africa's name change to Hopeful Africa, Lindsey and I are working on creating new merchandise designs. This is the first of many Tshirt designs I will be creating for this awesome non-profit organization.
Finally finished. #mondaymorning #design #magazinecover
Missing NYC a little extra today. #tbt
Apparently my brain likes to come up with the most tedious design ideas and then I have to do them. Wood burning typography for my publication design class. #graphicdesign
My most recent project that I finished was a packaging project. I had to do four different designs, all with different design elements in them. I chose to do type-only (required), flat-color, illustration, and computer-generated.
I chose to design beer labels, and came up with the name "Screw City Brewing Company" and even wrote their own mission statement, based out of my hometown, Rockford, IL. Saison (meaning "season" in French) is a Belgian Farmhouse Style Ale and happens to be my favorite kind of beer. I had a lot of fun making these labels and even had my first attempt at doing my own hand lettering with the green and yellow beer label (which turned out to be my favorite label). To that label I also added a border of cork-skin paper that I purchased in NYC at a special art store near the School of Visual Arts.
Combining some of my favorite things- beer, my hometown, and design- was a really enjoyable project to work on for a few weeks and I'm looking forward to more packaging projects in the future.
I find so much inspiration in nature, and it's my favorite subject to photograph. Because we were almost constantly on-the-go, I ended up not getting as many awesome nature photos as I wanted on my trip to NYC. However, there are a few I am really happy with. Most of these photos are from The High Line, and a couple others from a ferry ride to Staten Island and back.
These would be some of my favorite images I took on the streets of NYC during my field study trip there in September. It was an incredible experience, and it made me realize how much I have missed living in a big city, where I am constantly inspired.
MILTON GLASER ARCHIVES, located inside the library for the School of Visual Arts in New York City, was an incredible experience during my field study trip to NYC. It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip and these are a few of my favorite pieces that we were shown. Seeing first hand the design process of incredible designers, starting with sketches to final pieces, hand lettering, hand coloring, all work done well before computers was remarkable. This helped remind me that although most graphic design has to be transferred into a computer, there can still be a handmade quality to my work. This is something that I have been working on in my most recent projects and I think my work has been noticeably stronger since this trip to NYC.
Although I wasn't a Homecoming Co-chair for my sorority this year, I was still very involved with our pairing's banner, lawn display, and helping paint for Yell Like Hell. We won over all Homecoming (our second year in a row) with TKE and ACACIA fraternities. We received first place in Yell Like Hell, and third place in our banner design as well. Another year of late nights and hard work really paid off!
