As someone who did grow up relatively near a nuclear power plant and then also lived near another one, I can safely say it had literally no impact on my life except for nicely providing my power.

we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.

I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

Yeah, like I see black-pilled people on here and my default reaction isn't "oh, these must be world-weary old warriors who've lost their faith in humanity", it's "these people are in their 20s and need a hobby"
Cynical people are toddlers who are throwing a tantrum because they just found out we're not going to the playground today. You gotta wait for them to scream their feelings out before they can get their bearings and go play in the backyard instead. This takes longer for some people than for others.
Have we considered that maybe cynical people are depressed due to events we cannot know the scope of and should not broadly categorize? Because broadly categorizing them could be reducing the real traumas of so many people?
Some people are overreacting. But some people are also being trafficked, abused, assaulted, etc. and they may be wrong to see the world with such hurt but they are HURTING. And this constant shaming of anyone who doesn't think 'the right way' isn't helping anyone.
Instead maybe recognize that they are wrong and hope for them to see better. Some genuine optimism and empathy go a long way.

Been to a restaurant today. Gonna have to give them a 1 star rating. Food and service was great and so was the Ambiance. But they had the toilet paper the wrong way and I'm pretty sure that's a health and safety violation and I'm getting in contact with my lawyer to shut that place down
