I don't usually self promote, but I figured I'd drop this here anyway. If anyone's interested in a really weird and dark ShinRan fic, then here's one. It's weird. Just a warning.
And here's the cover for said story, taken from the inside cover of vol. 95. Colored it myself.
I was so drunk on the euphoria of successfully drawing a decent dog, I assumed he was done hahahahaaaaaa 😅😅😅😅😅 it was bothering me so bad. Pity the notebook's already made. I wonder if there's an easy way to add to an already printed glossy surface.
I hate when people take a female character and make her like "I'm just a girl" or "but I'm traumatized that why I did something wrong 🥺" or even worse "she can do no wrong "
I'm talking about vermouth and ai haibara (as an example but any dcmk woman would work)
I'm not hating them but you can't act like they never did something wrong as in haibara case (I want to use Shiho but haibara will work too)
And for vermouth case , you can't just say "but she helping Conan and protecting him and ran" yeh and??? That do not erase all the wrong she do. She as bad as gin
Unpopular opinion but if gin was a woman, people would have called him a "diva"" queen " or anything like that.
'But rimi your a gin fan you have no place to talk!!! '
yes ,your right. I'm a gin fan but the difference is that I acknowledge his wrong and I know he's a bad person. main while, yall acting like vermouth is being force or don't want to work in the bo. While she clearly enjoy killing and being in the bo.
I can compare the two for a long time but eh
As for haibara that another subject for another post
Also pls don't leave comments cause I can't reply to them for some reason , do reblog pls
I'm talking about this cause I'm tired of the same thing happening again and again in every media cause woman can be seen only as the worse person ever or she an angel that can do no wrong
I feel like this is a newcomer generational issue, since I haven't really seen the arguments you're making before a few years ago (personally speaking, that is. I very rarely engage in social media, so I don't know how long this has been going on).
I like Vermouth because she's interesting. We have absolutely no idea what her motivations are, and that's so interesting to speculate on. She's protecting Shinichi and Ran because they saved her life once, and in her head some sort of affection was born. That's it. It's not out of the goodness of her heart, which—again—is so interesting to think about.
I personally dislike Haibara. Yes, she's a good guy now, and I do like seeing her character development (going from super unfriendly and paranoid to much more approachable and slightly less paranoid and even funny at times)—but she's still keeping secrets from Shinichi. Like big, important secrets that could help Shinichi take down the organization (We saw this with Shinichi figuring out the boss's email, only to find out Haibara ALREADY KNEW ABOUT IT. And then she dissuaded him from investigating. Girl, you either want these guys gone or you don't. Fear is not the excuse you think it is).
I see why people like these characters. I see why they sympathize with them. I do NOT see why they're trying to act like they're super girl bosses that can do no wrong (the same thing happened with Amuro and Sera, and I'm just incredibly baffled by that).
Recently, there's been an uptick in new fans that come in and (from what I've seen on reddit) don't actually watch or read the show. They rely on others to tell them what's going on, which I used to respond to—it's a long running show, after all, they must have just gotten lost in all the information. I stopped engaging when they kept asking essentially the same questions but for different characters. They're not watching the show. You can tell.
A lot of the people saying these girls can do no wrong are very like very young people who have next to no media literacy, or rely on others to tell them what's going on instead of consuming the media themselves. They will either learn as they get older, or they won't. Just choose not to engage and move on. Dwelling on it will only make you unnecessarily angry and disappointed in other people.
Nah also in the past year (before COVID) I seen this
I'm not saying you should hate them. I'm saying that you can't just love them while ignoring all the harm they cause to others
Like you say for amuro (maybe bc I hate him and vermouth) his fan are only treating him as "babygirl" or shit like that (which is a weird ) and yes he help to take down the bo but while doing so he is hurting people in a way
Shiho is.... Just a mess as a character. Yes, she is interesting, traumatized but that do not erase she cause on other ( I think that Conan should have been more precocious with her than he did in canon) also the way she put part of her sister dead (in the beginning or still it's been a months since I saw the old episodes) on shinichi is crazy. Plus like you say she could have saved shinichi so much time by telling him things (only six months has past btw)
And yes, people started to only watch tt of the media and starts calling themselves "hardcore fans" and believe anything that posted on the internet. And I'm not talking about the younger generation of watchers ( since I'm one of them but started watching it at 6/7yr old) . I'm talking about grownass adults that can comprehend simple logic (you can know them by the ship they ship) also media literacy died with COVID cause no way you think that you think another character should suffer like that character 'the traumatized one's ' for them to understand or deserve love(ran and Shiho)
I only posted the post cause I was stress from exams and a fan fiction made me made mad from how much ignorance you could give for the victims of the thing or person you love(about another media)
And don't start with akai Shuichi cause him .he a special case to deal with. I think now he is less Babied than he was before cause in some time in the fandom if you said something that can be a little rude toward him expect threats
Not trying to sound rude and sorry if I come up as rude
Also I love your take!!! You did say some important things to my rant!!!
You're good. Rather than rude, you come off as tired and frustrated, which I totally get. I first came across this show back in 2003, and became an official fan in 2005 (I was 12 and 14 respectively). While I've never really interacted much with social media, I have seen takes I didn't agree with, but held the mindset that others could have their opinions peacefully. And for a long time, they did.
What bothers me most is the growing aggression of fans with different opinions, because the Detective Conan fan base has largely been pretty mellow and decently accepting of differing opinions. Not that there weren't fights between fans, but they weren't nearly as aggressive or rage inducing as what's happening today.

Sooooo while I'm working on The Dog and His Boy, I came to the realization that Heiji, like Shinichi, is 16 when he's first introduced.
Heiji is YOUNGER than Shinichi, and I think that's hilarious.
It might have been obvious or known to everyone else, but I gotta say even being a fan for 20+ years, it never actually occurred to me until recently.
It's not stated in the show or the manga, and the timeline for this series is atrociously abysmal, but I more or less have proof to back me up.
We know, during the show, that Heiji is 17. Mostly, we know this because he drives a motorcycle (which we DON'T see the first few times we meet him). In Japan, you can't get a driver's licence until 18, and a motorcycle licence can't be gotten before 17.
At the start, Shinichi is 16. He outright says it in chapter 2 before switching his age to "6".
(Chapter 2)
Heiji does not say how old he is, neither in the anime nor the manga, and we don't get that information from the onscreen text, either.
(Episode 48, chapter 93)
The only thing we know for certain is that he's in the same year as Shinichi (2nd year high-school student).
Shinichi turns seventeen in a non-canon movie (movie 1), and his birthday becomes canon at some point off screen.
While the movie wasn't canon, everyone just decided he was 17 afterwards, which happened AFTER Heiji's first appearance. (Yes, I do keep a color coded notebook with the names and air dates of all the episodes and movies. I'm weird, what can I say?)
Canonically, Shinichi's birthday is May 4th. While we don't know the exact date of Heiji's birthday, we HAVE been told it's either in July or August.
(This was apparently stated in an interview)
I know summer and winter has happened several (more than several) times in the show already. That's just what happens when you have a show go on this long, so I won't use the supposed visual passing of time because in this particular case, it means nothing.
All that to say, Shinichi is 3-4 months older than Heiji depending on what month Heiji's birthday lands.
As an American, that really doesn't mean anything. We can befriend people 30 years older/younger than us without difficulty (depending on who you are, of course. Some people only stick to 1-2 years difference in friend groups).
It's my understanding that age order is extremely important in Japan, and while I dont think Shinichi and Heiji care too much about that sort of thing, I like to think they tease each other about it. The visual, at any rate, is hilarious to think about.
If you could choose a game to live in, what would it be?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
On principle, my first reaction to that question would be "any one of the Detective Conan video games." A more realistic and potentially less deadly answer would be "Stardew Valley."
Detective Conan. Been hopelessly obsessed since 2004, and it's still going strong. Beyond that, detective stuff in general (which appears to be a hereditary interest, as my mom loves detective and mystery shows, and her dad was a Sherlockian).
Aaaaaand we're done. Now that that's done, imma go back to just writing since I'm pretty much all drawn out. Pun intended. There's 2 versions of this image:
The goodest of good boys. And:
The version I'm putting on my notebook, with the title of the fic. I'll let y'all know when I start posting on ao3, if that's of interest.
Things to note: most of the fur colors are pulled directly from different screenshots of Heiji, since over the years his skin and hair colors fluctuate wildly. Thought it was a nice touch, anyway.
I also didn't draw the background—that's still something I have a lot of trouble with. For anyone interested, the background came from the Identity V game, in their Detective Conan crossover. It was one of the hints, I think. I'll leave the original here for your viewing pleasure.
I did change the hue and saturation a bit, since Heiji was sort of swallowed up by the orange of the bricks.
One custom notebook. So glad Staples has a spiral binding service haha. Provided I average roughly 450 words per page, this hefty guy should be good for 180k words.

You'll notice I've decided against the iconic Conan outfit—not sure what about that was giving me trouble, but it was. Shinichi deserves comfy clothes anyway.
The blocking here is suuuuper sloppy. I'm just looking at colors right now—I'll tidy everything up once I've decided what I want.
Now that I've got this sketch on my laptop and in CSP, I realize I've made dog Heiji too fluffy. Not a bad thing, technically, but also not the image I have in my head. Help. How do I draw dogs.
Wellp, the history book segment of chapter 46 is finally done. I do not EVER want to write like that again. It reminded me a little too much of my college days writing research papers—you could not PAY me to write like that again. Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa 😮💨😭
Anywho, the chapter itself isn't done yet, unfortunately. Most of my time was spent agonizing over how to make the history book segment sound authentic.
It's fanfiction, damnit, it doesn't need to sound authentic. 😑
