"School seems to be cruelest to those with the best ideas. Smashers they certainly were. I think I broke half my body at those parties. Not missing that part too much. Or the pointless, if somewhat amusing, drama. Still, it was simpler back then to get on. I’m taking a year off myself, saving money and volunteering. I don’t know if I want to go back, but getting a nursing degree would definitely give me more initiative to stay at the hospital. Taking care of patients is so rewarding, don’t get me wrong, but getting paid wouldn’t be so bad either."
"Like one time, I printed off an assignment onto coloured paper because, let's be real, it's way cuter, and the teacher totally bitched me out like? Sorry, I didn't realise some pink fucking card affected my grade that badly." Jacky remained a little confused by the boy, sometimes she could be a little self-centered and the fact he didn't miss the safe things as her was actually surprising. "Oh, so you're like one of those do-gooder people. I think that's pretty rad, I just like working with children but I'm way not smart enough to do all the nurse things. Plus, I'm scared of blood so I would be absolutely no use. Wait, you don't get paid? Dude! What do you do?"
Asher grinned and let out a slight laugh as she pinched his cheeks. For some reason, this girl could always make him laugh. I don’t really mind. But I do wish I could be funny like you are.

Aiden smiled as he imagined the world Jacky painted.
"Doesn’t sound like a bad place to live at all. Can you imagine Nouvelle High being turned into a massive ball pit? School would’ve been far improved." Aiden squirmed at the idea of no injections. His grandma instilled him to trust the serums she gave him every day. Without them, disease would surely spread like the lusty embers of a wildfire.
"Me? Oh, I don’t know. Seems I haven’t given it as much thought as you. I’d abolish government, I think. Put the well being of each other in our own hands. That sounds idealistic, but I think people are worth more than we give them credit for. And any pissheads can be banished from my land!" Aiden said with a faux maniacal laugh.
"Exactly! It would've made my days there about ten million times better, honestly. I hated school with everything in me so once I'd completed my Senior year, I was so ready to be out. I do miss the big ragers though and like the high school drama was super funny to watch. Totally like some weird Gossip Girl episode." Jacky burst out laughing and covered her mouth quickly to absorb a little of it.
"I made all that up on the spot, come on now," she encouraged him, actually a little curious to see if anything could live up to being as cool as hers was. "I shouldn't be trusted with anyone's life near me, dude. They'd end up probably like dying within one week, you feel?" Jacky paused for a moment. "But totally feeling the banishment of the pissheads."
I-I… Uh, I wasn’t hearing, or no. I mean, I w-wasn’t listening and I didn’t hear… what you said…
Hey, hey, babycakes! I was just wondering what you were up to, duh? Haven't seen you in like, weeks.
Aiden hung his head, ashamed of his judgement. ”I reckon you’re right. So what would you do if you took over the world?”
"I'd stop the wars and stuff going on because it's totally dumb. Definitely get rid of the boring shows on TV, for sure. Like cartoons all day and fun movies all night! Everyone has to sleep in a blanket fort, no questions asked. We wouldn't have injections every day because they hurt." Jacky paused and wrinkled her nose. "Boring people would be eradicated or taught how to have fun and every school is required to have a ball pit."
"What would you do?"

I know, it's incredibly tragic. I had several months of therapy before I got back to normal and yet sometimes I'm still plagued with dreams of a bee crawling into my bed.

coffee break for two // griffin and jacky
Today had been an amazing day at work for Jacky. She worked at a local crèche and all of her favourite kids had been in attendance and although they were not meant to pick them out, she couldn't help it. Despite that though, she loved all the children and there was not a single second she regretted taking this job. Even that one time a kid got paint all over her new jeans, she didn't make a fuss and instead just joined in. 'To work with kids,' Jacky always said, 'You've got to think like them.'
It was nice for a change to have somewhere to be that she was invited along to for once, rather than just crashing whatever Brielle was doing. When 'invited' was usually mentioned around Jacky it meant one of two things: the event was a party or she'd taken it upon herself to initiate it. This coffee time of sorts was definitely of the second variety but she was excited that it would be with her -fairly- new friend, Griffin. She felt it was important that they discuss what was happening on Friday whether he knew he was going or not. When Jacky wanted something, Jacky got it due to her persistent annoyance levels much alike to that of a fly buzzing around your ear.
Skipping along towards Chloe's Cafe, a small but pretty establishment on her side of town, she took the time to think over what her gameplan could even be. It was clear that although Griffin appeared to have sweet intentions, he wasn't the most well versed in the extroverted social settings that Jacky, herself, excelled in. He was hot though and she allowed herself that though before stifling a little laugh. With a couple of tips from her and most definitely her connections, she just knew that he'd have fun in no time.
It was only a few, mere half-seconds from the bell ringing as she entered to her spotting the boy and bounding towards him with a big smile on her face. Griffin had picked a nice table near the corner of the room, probably so it was easier to talk. This place had a tendency to get busier after the usual shift times occurred; people always wanted their coffee to get them through late night paperwork or picking up the kids, for Griffin though, it appeared his awful sleeping habits were the cause. His appearance didn't show the late nights effect all that much and Jacky was a little jealous once she'd placed her bag near her feet and got a real look at him again.
"I'll take a hazelnut macchiato if you don't mind," Jacky spoke, getting to the point quickly, a child-like beam on her face. It was a typical way of her to be so assertive; she wasn't into beating around the bush unless it pissed someone off and she took a beat to think of James as the thought flitted across her mind. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly to try and emphasise the fact she'd used her sweetest voice and it never once crossed her mind to remember the word 'please'.
Uh, sure — I guess. Would you like to meet up at Chloe’s Cafe?
Perfect. My shift ends at five, so I'll meet you then?
Unfortunately, I don’t have many friends. I have to settle for whatever I can get. In this case, I’m settling for a medium caramel cappuccino.
Dude, I told you that's exactly what I'm here for. Now, you should totally buy me a coffee so we can discuss gameplan for this Friday night.
