geralt: name a more iconic duo than my fear of abandonment and instinct to self-isolate
jaskier: you and me
geralt, definitely not on the verge of tears: alright
Jaskier poorly hiding his fae blood from Geralt for years and it takes Yen telling him to even notice.
Geralt getting Jaskier small gifts and baubles ans Jaskier always always repaying him somehow, the fae neither accept nor give any gifts, there is always a transaction, they don’t like to be indebted.
Sometimes, on a misty morning, Jaskier would be completely obfuscated, to the point where even Geralt, with his keen senses, would have issue pinpointing him, like Jaskier could use the mist to mask his very presence, like it happened unconsciously.
Jaskier going stiff as a board sometimes when they’re walking through the wood, redirecting their trip a mile or two out of their way seemingly for no reason, always avoiding the mushrooms or strangely smooth stones. sometimes Geralts medallion hums ever so slightly on these days.
Whenever they entered a town with stories of changelings being left, Jaskier seldom left their rented inn room, stating fatigue or illness as the cause, but he only ever seemed to be ill in those towns.
He never took salt with his meals, always bled longer when struck with an iron weapon and had a perpetually itchy nose around oak, common wards against the fae.
Jaskier hates marigolds, usually appreciative of all flowers they stumbled across, being dandelion himself, if he saw a patch of wild marigolds he’d avoid them like the plague.
This only finally coming to a head when Yen needs to commune with a particular member of the faerie court and asks Jaskier if he can get in touch, Geralt is very confused to the point Yennefer has to explain it to him, Jaskier just looks a little guilty, if not worried.
Geralt is ecstatic, for if Jaskier has any sort of fae assisted aging, he won’t have to watch him grow old and die, perhaps they could do it together.
As far as earthly pleasures were concerned, Jaskier found that Geralt was game for almost anything. In an inn, a room given in lieu of payment, an empty bedroom they stumbled into, pleasantly woozy from the good wine courts served, they would indulge. With fingers, hands, lips and tongues, there was no limit to how they wrung pleasure from each other. Jaskier loved those moments where he and Geralt could forget about everything in the world except each other.
Those times were made even more precious because on the road, there was nothing of the like. The most Geralt would grant him was a chaste kiss, no matter how much Jaskier begged and wheedled. Straying hands were firmly caught by the wrist and put back above the waist. Attempts at deeper kisses were gently slowed down. Jaskier could only conclude that Geralt was worried about monsters around them. So he tried everything to ease Geralt’s mind.
Out of courtesy, Jaskier stopped making advances before a hunt. He didn’t need to be caught with his lovely bottom out by a ghoul or anything like that. But even if he saved his amorous attentions for after a hunt, Geralt still eased away from him with a “hmm” and a shake of his head. There was no rhyme or reason to it though. Jaskier had tried his best to figure it out.
At first he thought it depended on the hunt and what monster they had dispatched of (well, Geralt dispatched of while Jaskier cheered him on). But there was no rhyme or reason to it. Some days they would dispatch a ghoul and Geralt would happily bed him at the inn. But other times, same number of ghouls but Geralt wouldn’t even kiss him in the woods.
Which meant it wasn’t to do with the monsters. Or the amount of time it took to recover from it. There was only one conclusion Jaskier could draw: Geralt didn’t like outdoor sex. Or anything more involved than a soft kiss. Hand holding seemed okay too. But nothing more until they got to the inn.
So maybe privacy had been the problem. But Geralt had no problems with pulling Jaskier into his lap and mouthing along his neck if the mood took. Whether that was in an inn, court or, in one unforgettable instance, at the dinner table of some lord.
This all led to Jaskier coming to the silent conclusion that Geralt just didn’t want to have a romp outside. Which was a bit of a shame, Jaskier himself always fancied the romanticism of love making under the stars. But, love means compromise on matters and if he got Geralt in his life, it was all too easy to give up on notions of making a field echo with their cries of pleasure.
At least, that was what Jaskier had resigned himself to until Geralt was grabbing his hand in slightly sweaty palms at a court. But rather than pulling him towards the nearest empty room, Geralt dragging him out into the garden, proceeded to spin him around and thoroughly ravish him. As delightful as it was, Jaskier was puzzled.
“I thought you didn’t like this,” he stammered a little as Geralt pulled his shirt over his head and gestured for Jaskier to do the same.
“I do.” The short reply had Jaskier blinking, trying to figure it out while stripping. “Stop thinking.”
“I don’t want you to do something you’re not comfortable with.”
A hand reached for Jaskier and pressed his palm against Geralt’s crotch where it was impossible to deny his interest.
“But before, when I tried. You never.” Jaskier was at a loss for words, torn between admiring the speed with which Geralt stripped and trying to find answers. “Why now?”
Idly, he worried that Geralt was under a spell.
“Roach.”
The what now? Roach? What did the horse have to do with any of this? Jaskier was so puzzled.
“I didn’t want her seeing anything untoward.”
And Jaskier was ready to scream as understanding made his jaw drop. All along, Geralt hadn’t been unwilling. He’d been protecting his horse’s sensibilities. Unbelievable.
Playing with Joey Batey was easy. He’s perfect Jaskier and a great counterpoint to Geralt. Joey does all the work in comedy scenes. My task is to answer with just one look or a word. (…) The relationship between Jaskier and Geralt is one of the best things in the whole series and I hope that the viewers will get a similar impression.
– Henry Cavill
bonus:
im weak for soft geralt who wouldnt dare harm his bard but also consider that both of them are feral and very physical with each other.
like, jaskier begins to tell yennefer an embarrassing story about his witcher and geralt just fucking tackles him to the floor two words in and jaskier can barely breathe because geralt weighs a ton but he’s also laughing and trying to kick geralt off who’s just covering his mouth and growling a “don’t you dare” which isn’t really that effective because he looks ridiculous sitting on the bard and covering his mouth like a child and then he goes “i dont care how much you lick my hand, jaskier, i’m not getting off until you promise not to tell” and yen’s just shaking her head at the two idiots.
or geralt is standing by a river or something and jaskier comes barrelling towards him and jumps at him full force, pushing them both into the river with a cut off “motherfu-” from geralt and then they’re wrestling in the river, trying to dunk each other’s heads under and eventually geralt just slings jaskier over his shoulder and drags him back to shore and jaskier, sopping wet and grinning, responds with a “don’t manhandle me, you bitch”
This. Scene. Right. Here.
This scene is so underrated. We’ve just met Jaskier in this episode, but within minutes we find out that this bard is confident and well educated. As he and Geralt are trekking through the land looking for the Devil of Posada, we hear Jaskier say a line that’s seemingly unimportant, just more of his ramblings. He says “The elves called this Dol Blathanna before bequeathing it to the humans and retreating to their golden palaces in the mountains. There I go again, just…delivering exposition.” This is information that he prides himself in knowing, most likely taught to him during his time in Oxenfurt. He can even speak Elder, not a common trait for humans. Oxenfurt taught him their language, but the information they gave him is wrong. It’s the teaching of humans, not the truth. The scene above is the exact moment that Jaskier realizes everything he knew about the elves was wrong. Filavandrel tells Jaskier and Geralt that they were forced from their homes and starving, forced to ask a sylvan to steal for them for survival. Jaskier learns that it was humans that forced the elves into unlivable conditions. Everything was stolen from them, their land, their magic, their lives.
And I think this was the exact moment that Jaskier chose to follow Geralt. Not because of the stories he would learn and could sing, not because Geralt was good for exposure and protection, but because Jaskier had just learned that elves, witchers, and creatures alike were never the real monsters.
Humans were the real monsters all along.
And if what humans said made people like Geralt a monster, he would rather choose to follow a monster Every. Single. Time.
Folks, nothing to see here! Just Joey Batey and Henry Cavill role-playing as Jaskier and Geralt on Joey’s instagram…
I think I’m going to lose my mind with those two beautiful idiots! And they have to make it about the break-up scene too aaaaaah! The bromanceromancechemistry whatever this is help!
