To find some way to make this body look older, since I don't wanna look like a kid forever.. And, while it's been pretty gradual, we have been making breakthroughs.. !" they paused, eyes drifting off to nowhere in particular before returning to the form before them. "...I guess that's less common than I thought, huh? Yea, I'm like... Some guy's memories of another person, stuffed inside a puppet? Which.. Kind of makes it hard to alter my appearance, alongside the fact that everyone kind of seems to see me a bit differently..? Something about the whole being made of memories thing, I guess.. Annnnd maybe not being as stable as they'd hoped.."

Gojo stared a moment, as if dumbfounded. "Are you asking me if it's good I almost killed somebody?" No, the thing before that, right? He sighed softly. "My cursed energy was really unstable." He was really unstable, for a while. "But we've gotten past having to worry about me accidentally crushing someone with Infinity— probably. Man, good thing you weren't here for us to have this conversation six months ago, huh? Who knows what could've happened!"

The city felt wrong that night.

Not haunted, Kaz knew what haunted felt like. Haunted had weight. Memory. Attachment. This felt… constructed. Like something wearing the shape of a city rather than belonging to it.

His motorcycle rolled to a stop beneath a flickering streetlight that couldn’t decide whether it wanted to exist. Kazuya didn’t kill the engine immediately. He rarely did when something felt off. And something very much felt off. The man stood a few meters away.

Still.

Patient in a way that didn’t belong to people who breathed. Kazuya finally cut the engine. Silence dropped like a curtain.

He removed his helmet slowly, rainwater sliding through his hair, dark strands clinging to his cheekbones. His eyes lifted, half-lidded, tired, already irritated at whatever this was going to become.

He studied the stranger. At first, it was the obvious things. The posture. The presence. The way the air seemed to hesitate around him. Then the less obvious. The pressure behind the eyes of the world when it tried not to look at him directly.

Kazuya exhaled once, slow. “Fuck---…You’re not dead,” he said quietly.

A pause.

The man didn’t react. That, in itself, was a reaction. Kaz tilted his head slightly, as if adjusting his angle might change what he was seeing. “But you’re not exactly… standing on the same side of the living as I am either.”

The wind moved between them. It sounded too clean. He took a step closer, boots wet against asphalt. Up close, the feeling intensified, like reality had been stretched thin around the stranger and forgotten to snap back into place.

Kazuya’s gaze narrowed slightly.

Not fear. Curiosity, sharpened into something almost clinical.

“You feel,” he murmured, “like something that was made wrong on purpose.” His cigarette burned low between his fingers, forgotten for a moment.

Then, faintly, his mouth twitched. Not quite a smile. Not quite anything safe.

“…I should start charging extra for this,” he added, voice dry, almost amused. “Entities with existential issues and bad timing are not in the base package.” A beat. His eyes flicked over the stranger again, slower this time, measured, lingering just long enough to be annoying on purpose. “…Or is this the part where you tell me you’re tragic and mysterious and I’m supposed to fall in love with the narrative?”

The sarcasm softened at the edges, though the tension in him didn’t.

For the first time that night, his voice dropped out of its usual laziness. “…So what are you?” He looked at the man again, really looked. As if trying to decide whether he was speaking to a curse, a memory, or something that had learned how to wear a human shape without ever understanding it.

Then, quieter, almost to himself:

“Because whatever you are… you’re looking at me like you already know my name.”

a new place meant plenty of new space to wander. new things to see, new people to watch idly as he traveled. it was always nice finding a world where curses weren't a thing - at least in the way that they were back home. sure, there was something, but it wasn't his problem, was it? he was enjoying the cool weather, sun hidden away behind clouds all day, and he hadn't even passed out once during his excursions. it was relaxing, even in such a city..

night fell far too soon (or maybe he'd arrived pretty late in the afternoon), and a rain accompanied it the curtain of darkness as he looked to the sky. arms folded into his sleeves and he just closed his eyes, sighing contentedly as the rain fell over him.. he could dry when he got home.

the quiet was disrupted by the sound of a motor on an otherwise relatively empty street, and his eyes opened again, gazing blankly over as someone seemed to be staring at him. a helmet was removed, and something was said, but over the motor, he couldn't really hear - did he say something about dead? he stayed still, just watching. this was obviously a human, so he wasn't in any rush to do anything about it..

then he started coming toward him, and choso just watched, too calm from the rain to care much, only to frown slightly at his next comment. made wrong on purpose... not entirely wrong, but it still wasn't pleasant to hear, and as the man continued, his brow only furrowed a bit further.

"...I'm just a man enjoying the rain. That isn't illegal, is it?" this wasn't false, just... omitting a fair bit. just because the man could tell something was off about him didn't mean he had to spill about everything he might not even understand. "Can I help you with something..? I'm.. Just visiting this city, so I'm afraid I don't know much. Just what I've seen.."
