because you used my gif, I got notified in this post which is cool cause I had the same issue! its really easy to get out of the habit of reading, but here's what helped me:
reading children's books, which are short and digestible by nature! theres a sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing anything, and you can get through a bunch in a day. even manga, like you said, is encouraging
rereading books you already know you like! theres no pressure if your attention wanders cause you know what happens and you get to revisit all these characters you like
i think fanfic is a good stand in when youre trying to read 'proper books' especially for people (me) with phone addictions. there was a post going around for a while claiming that fanfiction is especially liked by adhd'ers because its a feedback loop for hyperfixations - i dont know if there was an actual study attached to that, but associating things you love with reading will give a bigger dopamine hit
reading the paper or magazine articles, to get used to reading bigger blocks of text. count anything that keeps your eyes away from a screen as a win
the previous tip also extends to literally anything you can see. primary schools are full of posters and words on the walls because kids who dont like reading will absorb information and build the pathways subconsciously. when youre out and about, pay special attention to the words around you - warning signs, pokemon cards, adverts and so on. its all about the habit
going somewhere public to guilt yourself into reading. a library or park where people can see if you stop reading and your social anxiety can take over your reading anxiety (although this may just be me lmao)
flipping through. go to a library, open a book with a pretty cover and start from any page that grabs your attention. look at how it ends first, skip a page you think is is boring or a chapter with an annoying font. take the stress out of doing things the right way by finding a book you dont care about and then leaving it behind when you're bored!
if you can read a series out of order, you can read a book out of order. you can do the same as above but just longer. often youll end up reading the whole thing and not even realise. hey, look, you finished a book!
audiobooks. I used to be elitist about audiobooks for so long but ill never look back. I already have my headphones on when im doing something menial, so why not put something educational on instead of.,. idk, reddit drama. you dont even need to pay for a subscription, theres so many classical books recorded on youtube. I read the sherlock holmes mysteries that way
creating a reason to read, which for me is to be a better writer. you cannot be a good writer if you dont read. learning what you like in books, trying different genres or getting really in the weeds in one specific genre you decide you like. imagine going up to someone and saying 'yeah im just really into sci-fi this year.'
find out what books your friends are into and read those, so you can share in the experience to add extra motivation! if you dont have friends who read, read the book of any movies you or they like which were based on a book so you can engage even deeper. be that person who goes 'well actually in the book-'
schedule a time to read. when people said this to me i hated the idea of setting a timer or an hour in a day. that's good if youre studying intensively because it will help organise your day. personally i would usually miss my time slot and then feel guilty, and thats no good because you want to reward yourself for reading rather than punish yourself for not reading. for me, this is in the morning so the first thing I look at isn't a screen. that only works if you have the time, so before bed or during a commute are some other ideas.
carry a book around! find a slim or light paperback which doesnt mind getting tossed around. give yourself the option to read at any given moment
hope some of these helped! I feel your pain, i was a massive reader but from age 12 onwards it wasnt cool to read, I had less time to and i wanted quicker rewards for spending hours at a time in one position reading a book. its embarrassing to lose the habit, but habits can be rebuilt :)
