âOkay, Iâll try to keep that in mind.â Balo would try her hardest to keep it in mind when it came to Logan at the very least. It surely wouldnât be something she remembered universally - everyone was different - but sheâd do her best to ensure she didnât stress asking permission when it came to these things with Logan in the future. She blinks when he asks her if she wanted to go to California, honestly she wasnât sure if she did. She missed her sister but the thought of going so far away, of leaving her mother behind, wasnât one she really enjoyed. It was all so complicated. âI donât know. Iâm not opposed to the idea or anything, but Iâm not sure if I want to.â She confesses, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. In ways, she was probably better suited to stay in New York, pick a state college because it was undoubtedly cheaper in the long run, but in other ways - what Grace wanted sounded appealing to. It was yet another case of not being certain of what she wanted. She nods at his warning that nobody knew she used to play, âI wonât tell anyone then.â She doubted it would come up in casual conversation, an instrument he no longer played wasnât exactly something she thought would come up at least. Piano was in the past, she wasnât going to be dragging it out now that she was aware.
âYou probably should thank Lia for that, a lot of what I understand about basketball comes from being her friend, watching her games, and learning from that.â It certainly wasnât a sport she sought out on her own but she was happy she actually remembered the name right, that she hadnât messed it up too terribly. âIâm really thankful to have you back in my life too and Iâll support you no matter what. Weâre friends, I like when Iâm able to support you.â It was a nice thought, the two of them being able to support each other in the future. The concept that they wouldnât split apart again after they graduated. It made her feel warm and fuzzy inside, a bit safe.
If only their entire conversation was making her feel that way. The longer he was quiet, the more she scrambled to try and find a way to convince her everything was the way it was supposed to appear. That there was no need to look any closer regardless of her change in behavior because as far as he was supposed to know there was absolutely nothing wrong. She blinks when he takes her hand, making no move to stop the comfort he was offering her as she continues to scramble a bit. The handholding was appreciated, in fact - it gave her some comfort regardless of everything else on her mind. She nods at his words, âI do trust you. If Iâm right about the question, youâre not going to tell anyone the answer, right?â Thereâs a genuine concern when it comes to that if he repeated what she said - sheâd get into serious trouble. It was important that she knew he wouldnât say anything, that she was truly safe with him. If she told him the truth and it reached her father, she truly wouldnât be okay afterward.
He smiled to her in reassurance. He was still getting to know Balo all over again, but he could definitely see her sweet nature never changed. He could remember this clearly about her from back when they were children. He couldnât tell her how to act around other people of course, but at least he could tell her she could be comfortable around him and not have to think she had to ask for his âpermissionâ. He studies Balo for a moment when he asks her about California. He nods to her when she confesses whatâs in her mind. Honestly, he got where she was coming from, because he had a similar line of thought. Not knowing if he really wanted to stay in New York but at the same time wanting to be around his sisters. âI get that. I think about that too. If I want to stay in New York to be near my sisters. Which brings us back to... time. Weâll figure it out.â He chuckles lightly. He didnât stress about that. As long as he was away from his parents, he would be fine. He knew the whole piano thing wasnât going to come up in any conversation, at least he couldnât imagine how. But Logan was so sure to keep anything related to his past in the past and it made him feel better knowing Balo was aware of that too. âThank you.â
âGotta thank Lia for spreading basketball around,â he said. Lia was his teammate and despite previously only talking to her about practice related stuff, they had started discussing other things lately and they were slowly getting to know each other more and more. It made him feel good knowing that Balo was staying in his life for the long run and they wouldnât lost contact again after graduation or something. Balo was becoming a really positive presence in his life and after everything crazy happening at Luxor with him, it was good and reassuring to know that she was around and she wasnât planning on running away from all the craziness. âSame here, Balo.â
Logan wasnât stupid, he was aware his question and the sudden change in direction in the conversation to this topic in specific was not something Balo liked. He would have felt the exact same had the tables been turned. But he was freaking out over the possibility and he needed to know. He wasnât sure what he was going to do about the information if it turned out to be what he dreaded. He gives her hand a gentle squeeze, a way to tell her that he was here. He studies her, looking down when she answers him. It was what he dreaded. He looked back up at her and nods emphatically. âYouâre right about the question. Whatever you say to me doesnât leave this room, Balo. You can trust me on that.â Logan expected to be able to know how to approach the subject, given his own experience. But... he didnât know how and he hoped he was doing a good job and keeping Balo relaxed despite everything. He didnât know just how to formulate the questions in his head in the best way. He was going to give Balo time to speak before he asked anything, maybe sheâd speak more freely? Say whatever she wanted without having to ask a specific set of questions. Maybe from there, heâd find it easier to ask and inquire. He gave her hand another gentle squeeze, indicating he was patient and would give her time before she decided to speak out.
