How to be helpful in WvW if you really want to be helpful
2. Get on TS, if you can. If you are repulsed by TS or otherwise cannot use TS, stay on tag. (Yes, we know some people prefer discord. But the WvW servers I’ve run with have established TS servers that are nicely organized. If it ain’t broke, keep using it.)
3. “INC” should be called in squad or say chat. Use map chat if you’re not with the tag, and if you know your directions and can count. It is extremely unhelpful when called in team chat because “TEAM” is the entire server and crosses four different maps.
4. When calling out “inc” indicate where you are, who is coming, what direction they’re coming from, and how many of them there are. “Inc SMC south gate 15+ HoD” “Inc EBG keep east wall 20+ green” is much more helpful than “inc”
5. If you break into a tower or keep or something, do not immediately run straight for the lord. STAY ON TAG.
6. Invest your WvW points into things that will increase your siege-manning prowess.
7. Man siege if you have mastery. (If you don’t know what that means, you do not have siege mastery.)
8. If you are new to WvW and are running around with your PVE gear on, you will die. You will die, and you will die a lot quicker than those who have been running in WvW for a while. If you plan to stick around in WvW, research WvW builds/gear, but be ready/willing to change it all if you join a WvW guild that wants you to run something specific.
9. There is no rezzing during combat in WvW. So respawn and run back. If you are lying in a sea of red circles, ain’t no one gonna be able to rez you.
11. When someone says “pugs” they usually mean you if you’re not in their squad. (It might also apply to you if you’re running with a guild group…but mostly it’s those who are not in squad and running alongside the commander.) If the commander says “Pugs take lord” go ahead and kill the lord as fast as you can while the comm holds off the enemies.
12. Watch your feet for red circles. Do not stand in red circles.
13. Remember that tags do not owe you anything. Not a single thing. They don’t have to tag up. They don’t have to let you into squad. Most seasoned commanders will have a set comp (composition–specific classes for specific parties) that they run with. Don’t get mad if the squad isn’t open or if they kick you out. They can’t stop you from running alongside them if you *really* want to.
14. Watch what you’re building. If the commander hasn’t thrown it, try to avoid building it.
15. Get familiar with the siege and what it does so that you can identify what to build and what not to build. A flame ram at a wall does nothing. A flame ram too far from the gates does nothing.
16. Build first, kill seige after your supplies are spent or if you don’t have any. Keep the top of the walls hot to prevent people from disabling the siege.
17. Repair inner walls before outer.
18. Do not repair outer walls if enemy siege is still hitting it. You’re only wasting supply we might need for later.
19. If the tag is telling roamers to take a camp or to do something and you’re not in any squad…consider yourself a roamer.
# Targeting people in squad/party happens for a reason. It’s usually the comm being tagged in order to make his location visible for movement. Other in-squad targets might be for people requiring heals or siege needing to be manned. Pay attention to chat or TS to know what’s going on.
# If you’re a class that can stealth or go invis, your minis give away your position.
# Superior or guild siege are usually preferred over the discount/walmart siege.
